Another set back for Max Bailey

If he is fit, he should play. However it seems he wont be AFL fit so Box Hill it should be.

Lets hope Taylor gets fit. You want three fit ruckman in case one gets injured or one gets sick;)

Renouf/Skipper are toiling well, just need them to not suffer injuries.

Exactly right. We still only have 2 fit ruckamn. Grimley will play development squad for the remainder of the year and lets see if lowden gets named this week. Lowden has grown a bit but is really only a first year player esp as he was drafted as a 17 year old, i am sure everyone will consider this when we judge him.

I am not so sure Taylor will be back, but fingers crossed. For me, Skipper is only playing b/c of injuries and is not at AFL level, however i am happy to be proven wrong.

Our version of Collingwoods Lee Walker!

I feel sorry for Max, but are the club seriously going to give him another contract? He has hardly taken the field in the years he has been at the club and must be keeping the medico's and rehab staff very busy!

Surely there is a decent ruckman in his early 20's in the WAFL, SANFL or VFL we could give an opportunity instead???

What the hell?

On the basis of a minor arthroscope, which was routine for this injury, it's time to dump him?

Maybe wait to see what he does when he plays first....

It was an arthroscope for a clean up; apparently routine after a reconstruction.

It is "keyhole" surgery and usually cleans up debris with the joint space.

Nothing new here, guys. John Ralph trailling the good burghers of BF in the knowledge stakes yet again.

Hi John!
However, while we are on a quest for accurate information, the above procedure that Bailey is under going may be considered minor comparative to his other surgeries, but removal, or clean-up, of cartlidge in the knee should not be under estimated.

Good luck Bails. Hope to see you out there by the end of season. :thumbsu:

After months of rehabilitation including cycling, swimming and weights Taylor is hungry for a comeback, but not for another four to six weeks.

It, like any other procedure, may have complications.

What we did have previously was a poster claiming Bailey's career was over. I leave it to you to decide what information is indeed accurate.

Jeeze, if only one of you had a bowl of fried rice to throw over the other one, I'd swear I'd heard this whole thread in a conversation before!

Hope he comes back, bigger, blacker, stronger than ever!!!

The only problem I see here is Taylor, (the equivalent of a opposition supporter in Hawthorn colours), getting a game. Maybe all we can hope is Skipper having a big month.

NO, on the fact he has played 6 games since being drafted in 2005!

There is no doubt that he has fantastic potential but at some point the club have to cut their losses.

These knee injuries are not horrific, freak accidents, they seem to occur under normal stress of AFL footy. That is dodgy knee syndrome like Lee Walker at Collingwood had.

There was one last year called wayde...

From what I've seen, the guy can actually play and must impress them in the rehab program (whereas a Thorp might not have).

Club's sticking to their guns. You sure need him.

Worst case scenario: 4 years of doing nothing is not much better than 5 years of nothing.

I see you have little confidence in Bailey or Dowler - as evidenced by your posts. Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion. My view is that we NEED both these players to perform for the HFC and it is essential to our success in the next 6-8 years. Its not too late to recoup our investment. I just wish that poeple like yourself, would encourage these players rather than just criticise them. My view anyways.

Bailey because of injuries ,no doubting his potential. I prey that he can make a successful comeback but am not holding my breath.

Dowler, like Thorp should be axed because of talent (Or lack of it).

Our recruiting department have lots to answer for regarding Dowler and Thorp!

Dowler went just ahead of Ryder, Higgins, Varcoe, Jones amonst a host of others including Max Bailey.

Thorp went just before Joel Selwood, Jack Riewoldt, Armitage, Nathan Brown, Grigg, Urquart, Jetta, Pettard and many others.

Why do we NOT consider these 2 as absolute recruiting failures. Neither lived up to anywhere near where they were drafted in the 5 years they have been at Hawthorn!

Dont know too much about ligaments but if it is healed it is healed. If Max cannot play this year what is going to change that will allow him to play next year?

If Skipper is playing we will not win a final. We need Max this year.

Yes we would. Ruckmen are overrated.

Average Ruckmen, even better than average ruckmen may very well be overrated - agreed - but not having a Ruckman kills/ed us.

Letting Max go at season's end (IMO) would be a disaster - someone else would definitely Rookie List him & within 6 months he would be burning us - not to mention that we would be letting go an awesome potential.

* And I agree - we will win finals with or without Max.

Don't believe that talent was Dowler's / Thorp's problem. More upstairs application.

You could be right but what does that say about our player management?

Still don't think that Dowler was more skilled than Ryder and Higgins or that Thorp was more skilled than Selwood and Riewoldt. Our high draft picks were not only controversial at the time, but in hindsight they were plain shocking!

I know i have asked this before, but does the HFC have a psychietrist? I believe it is a must!

Bit hard to make a successful comeback when you've been delisted.

A decision will be made at the end of the year.

If the Hawks think he won't make it, I'm sure they will be looking at alternatives as we speak.

At this stage, he is seen as our #1 ruckman next year, not a delisting.

I thought it went something like this:

Max has naturally weak knees. He did one of them twice - the second time, the operation appears to have worked and this knee should now be stronger than before he started.

He then did the other knee - it was naturally weak, so if this operation has worked it will now be stronger than before he started.

No reason not to think he can't play some footy, either later this year or starting from R1 next year. And given his talent, the lack of good established rucks available for trade, and the time to develop a new one, taking a shot on Max is by far the best option I can see.

It, like any other procedure, may have complications.

Definitely not over, hopefully he doesn't get much swelling.

As for playing him this year or waiting, I think if he can play, he will want to play. Young Bailey must be aching to rip it up.

Let him at 'em whenever he's ready. :thumbsu:

Especially if it comes to a point where we cant make finals. if max is fit enough, then we should play him. no point in sitting him on the sideline untill next year getting him fitter. If we cant make finals, pay him for 30% game time just to give him a run. nothing to loose,

As for dowler, we need to keep him with the 2 new teams coming in it will be hard to draft quality players, and i reckon there is plenty of space on each list to keep players like these 2. players 38-42 geniunely never add anything to the team anyway so better keeping these guys.

Last 4 games last year Dowler was looking very promising and every1 on here was all over him. When we had out 1st NAB match every1 had him in the side, untill he got injured, now you are all forgetting this and writing him off

Get him ready for 2011. Absolutely nothing to be gained by playing him in a handful of games in 2010. If he doesn't play this year he gets another 6 months strengthening into his toothpick legs before he starts playing games. We have come this far with him, lets give him every opportunity to have a long career rather than test him in a handful of games this year.

Disagree, if he is fit play him...end of story

Why do all these threads turn into a Dowler/Thorp recruitment bashing thread. Unbelieveable. Everyone at Hawthorn was wrapped when we drafted Thorp. So he turned out to be injury riddled, and then had "problems". I wouldnt blame that on the recruiters. Sure good players went after him, and I reckon every team behind us would have taken Thorp if he was still there. Dowler needs anothe opportunity. Finally got fit last year and overall played pretty well. Now can't get a game. Bailey will be a much better option than anything we can draft. With gold coast having so many top picks, clubs wont have much to offer each other. You aren't gonna convince a team to give up a quality ruckman. Unless he breaks down again, we will give Max a contract.
