A cash deficit of almost $300 billion over the next 5 years. These guys are insane, and don't have the nation's best interests at heart.

To answer the topic question: How long? Hopefully not much longer. We are on the precipice as a nation. We will end up at the bottom of the canyon if these dolts and shameless thieves get another crack - except this time those horrible examples of humanity (ie - the Greens & Teals) will be pulling the strings.

It's funny because this is almost the exact opposite of what will happen.

Govt budgets are essentially a double book keeping game, deficit means more money into private hands. Where this is allocated and in whos hands it ends up is this interesting bit. Govt running large deficits almost always ends up with asset inflation so your(hard earned) wealth is gonna increase

A govt that prints it's own currency can't go bankrupt, it can go into hyperinflation but there's no sign of that

An allowance provided by an employer doesn't make something suddenly tax deductible. Public servants get meal allowances when they travel doesn't mean everyone can deduct the cost of their lunches at work.

Of course it doesn't, but the instant asset write off wasn't introduced to be consistent with accounting rules.

On that logic, no asset should ever be fully depreciated for tax purposes in a single year, regardless of value.

Back in late 2020 there was absolutely no guarantee that the economy would fully recover from the lockdowns. Therefore stimulus that seems too generous was understandable. Yet there is always the risk in Australian politics of giving a goody, and being expected to keep giving it.

I watched a recent IPA video. In it, John Howard said that any new spending measure (with the exception of defence and economic infrastructure) should be offset with a savings measure.

It's telling that the Australian right is always seeking to cut government spending because it's unaffordable, but then it exercises doublethink and offers a blank cheque to defence projects. It's doublethink, plain and simple.

Have had multiple friends / family members give birth in last two years and total costs end up being $10-15k at least (that may take into account the cost of the additional pregnancy premiums on the private health)

I would have thought the dismantling of the white Australia policy and the most important piece of civil rights legislation we have is a fairly important one… ending finally with the Racial Discrimination Act in 1975.

Whilst the legislation was introduced under Whitman and then finally ratified under Fraser.

It was Harold Holt who laid the groundwork for its legal introduction by Whitlam.

Holt fought ALP leader Arthur Calwell (a massive supporter of the White Australia Policy) right up until the late 60’s on it. Whitlam, to his credit then built off of Holt’s signing commitment to the Inernational Convention on the Elimination of All forms of racism in 1966 to bring it to legislation.

LNP finished off what they started in a way.

Fraser then backed it up with establishment of the Human Rights Commission in 1981 and falling in line with UN guidelines. Another monumental piece of civil rights legislation.

And im far from a LNP fanboi.


The GST introduction is probably another one under Howard that can’t be ignored. Whilst first discussed under Hawke, he let the unions dictate and strong arm him. Was really the LNP baby of the 90’s. I don’t see how it could be argued it wasn’t a good piece of economic policy and legislation.

Then, as you said National Firearms Agreement is a piece of policy quoted by international media almost yearly regarding a visionary example of gun control.

Work for the Dole another piece of decent policy imo.
