What position does he play?
Height/weight?
Hawthorn Football Club has made its final changes to its Player List ahead of the AFL National Draft on 29 November 2008.

The Club will release three players from its 2008 Rookie List - Hugh Sandilands, Alex Grima and Matt Suckling - while it has been decided that Cameron Stokes will be retained as a nominated rookie to allow the Club to utilise five selections at the 2008 AFL National Draft. Stokes will be available for AFL senior team selection in 2009 as a nominated rookie.

Promising young ruckman/key forward Tim Walsh has been retained as a second-year rookie.

The Club will also include former NSW scholarship player,Will Sierakowski, in its 2009 Rookie List. Sierakowski, from Riverview in Sydney was the first player signed by the Hawks to its NSW Scholarship program in 2006.

Hawthorn’s General Manager Player Personnel and Strategy, Chris Pelchen, has been impressed by the quality of player coming through the ranks as part of Hawthorn’s NSW Scholarship program.

“Will is a gifted athlete and he has continued to show great aptitude to the game,” said Pelchen.

“A member of the famous Sierakowski family we look forward to Will continuing the great tradition the family has with top level sport in Australia.”

“He is a tall utility with good athleticism and marking ability and will continue to develop his skills as a rookie in our player development program.”

“The Hawks have some outstanding junior talent in the NSW Scholarship Scheme and it continues to be an important pathway to AFL for young footballers from NSW.”

Will Langford, son of Hawthorn great Chris, has also joined the Hawks NSW Scholarship Scheme. Langford, a hard running defender with outstanding endurance and workrate, will become eligible for the AFL National Draft in 2010.

Current players signed to the Hawks through the NSW Scholarship Scheme are: Michael Johnston (Sydney), Trent Stubbs (Sydney), Will Langford (Sydney), Jack Mahony (Wollongong), Thomas Kickett (Broken Hill), Heath Caldwell (Broken Hill) and Dylan Stuart (Broken Hill).

My limited knowledge of our NSW scholarship players is as follows:

William Sierakowski has been added to our rookie list this year, so we should be able to see a bit of him at Box Hill in 2009.

Michael Johnston is still eligible to play u18's next year I think, so is eligible to be pre-listed at the end of 2009. I think he was in the u18's squad this year but didn't make the team for the championships.

Trent Stubbs went pretty well in the u16 championships this year and has recently been inducted into the AIS Academy - usually a pretty good sign. He will be eligible in 2010.

Will Langford was recently invited to join the AIS Academy also, but declined due to school commitments. Will won the medal for best player in the NSW/ACT u16 squad at championships, so he can probably play a bit. He'll be eligible in 2010 also.

Jack Mahoney - not sure, eligible in 2010 also? Can anyone shed more light on this lad?

Thomas Kickett - snagged a couple of majors in one of the u16 games this year. Also eligible in 2010.

Heath Caldwell & Dylan Stuart - both look very young and raw still and I don't think they're eligible until 2011.

Now, I don't want to put big expectations on these young blokes, but how awesome would it be if the likes of Langford, Stubbs & Kickett all turned out to be genuine draft prospects - they would all be eligible to be pre-listed by the Hawks in 2010. Not bad for the back-to-back premiers of 2008/2009? A fairly effective way of compensating for the GC17 concessions I reckon.

It's amazing other clubs haven't seemed to cotton on to this scheme anywhere near as much as we have (although their probably spending all their resources to get players from ireland and south africa!). Certainly with how good scouts are these days and what is being said about stubbs/langford/kickett in particular, it is very exciting.

That being said does anyone have any info on what sort of players all these guys are (including the others that we haven't really heard about as much)? i.e. position, size etc.

William Sierakowski

Will 'The Cat' Sierakowski - No 26 Nicknamed 'The Cat' by supporters but called 'Sierra' by his teammates, Will is noted for his incredible ability to keep his feet after a contest. A student at St Ignatius College, Will is a scholarship player with Hawthorn and represented NSW/ACT Rams in the final two games in the NAB National U18 Championships in Melbourne this year. Will is also a nominee for the rising star award for the Sydney AFL this season. source http://www.northshorefc.com.au/ player profiles.
