Anyone good enough to join the Saints at the top?

Well as you are all probably aware by now the Mighty Saints are currently sitting pretty at the top of the AFL ladder (where we rightfully belong), but which (if any) teams are capable of joining us at the summit?

Obviously there are 8 teams which are automatically ruled out after losing in Round 1, and the Crowbots have now fallen by the wayside, but what of the remaining 6 contenders?

Naturally I'd expect the Cats to beat the hapless Tiges at home and join us. I reckon the Bullies have a good shot against the Kangawhos and maybe Carltank will fluke another win against Brisbane. I'm also backing Port to take care of Worsfold's Worriers at home. So theoretically there are 4 other teams that can match the top of the ladder Saints.

However, the horrible reality for these 4 contenders/pretenders is that the Saints play the Weagles at home next week (the equivalent of a percentage boosting bye these days) so even if these 4 teams can match us this week, they will surely drop off the Saints top of the ladder pace by next week.

I guess we'll just have to get used to being lonely at the top.

Build the game up like a 'final' that should be enough to get the other team over the line.

Damn you are making hodgepodge look like a genius ..........

Lets start off by saying that its 5, not 4 teams which can end the rd with 2 wins .............. Cats, Blues, LIONS, Port and Bulldogs .............. Cats will most likely thump the Tigers and bump their winning % around the 200% mark. Carlton already have a HUGE %, and a close will will still keep their % above 135% and Port have every opportunity to get a good % boost against the Eagles ........ The question shouldn't be which of the 5 other teams that may be sitting on 2 wins will be under the Saints at the end of the rd, its will ANY be below the Saints by the end of rd 2 ................

And 2nd why do you think rd 3 will be ANY different ??? If Carlton beat the Lions then we face an injury ridden Bombers next week, Cats play Collingwood, Port plays Melbourne and the Bulldogs play Richmond. That is 4 other teams who are looking at big wins in rd 3, all of which could be on 3-0 and ALL with better %'s than the Saints ................

So enjoy the time at the top for what, 12 hours before the Cats take over the mantle, until Carlton win tonight and go back to the top. Then tomorrow the Bulldogs will be back above the Saints, and Port will finally be back up there by Sunday night ..............

Saints. 5th place by the end of the rd ................

Hey Einstein, would you like to explain how both the Blues and the Lions can win the same match against each other?

Surely only one of those teams can win and go 2-0 up, which by my calculations still makes it only 4 teams that can join us at the top.

As for my question about which teams (if any) can join us on top, that is theoretically still valid. As unlikely as it is, the Cats and Port can lose, meaning thats two less teams on 2 wins, whilst Brisbane can beat Carlton by a small margin which means both those teams will still be below us. If all that happens then only the Bulldogs or North can go ahead of us, providing that match isn't a draw of course.

There are 5 teams that CAN be on 2 wins. I didn't say all 5 teams WILL be on 2 wins at the end of the rd, you just didn't include the Lions as a chance to even be on 2 wins by the end of the rd ..............

And the way you have crapped on about the mighty Saints makes it sound like you believe you massive 15 and 32 point victories are an extrodanary feat which cannot possibly be matched, when in fact they are solid wins and nothing more. It is vastly more likely that the Saint's will be 5th by the end of the rd, not 1st. An average of 135% after 2 victories isn't anything to get too excited about, you haven't put a side away yet, and your next "percentage boosting" game is in a match in a rd where, theoretically, Port, Carlton and the Bulldogs all have equavelent or easier matches, and the Cat's can thump ANY team on ANY given day .......

Basically your rant is crap and there are A LOT of teams which could, and most likely will, pass the mighty Saints at the top of their mighty summit ..........

Well no one has passed us yet buddy, the Mighty Saints are still up there on the summit.

The Cats had their opportunity to knock us off today but blew it when they failed to hand Richmond there expected ass whipping.

Maybe Carltank will have more luck tonight, although I'm tipping an upset win for Brisbane.

Getting in with this thread early whilst you are undefeated is probably a good idea.

Smacks of not being confident of any longevity at the top.

You won 2 games in a row....

Good to know you can count. Maybe your team will be lucky enough to join us tomorrow.

We've got West Coast and Freo in the next two rounds so I reckon we'll be around the top for a good while longer yet.

The Hawks would want to get a win on the board tonight or they'll be in danger of dropping off the pace already.

Enjoy being up there, cuz the doggies might just have to give you a reality check just like we did twice last year :)

We'll see, I reckon we are a much better team now than the last couple of times we met though.

This guy isn't indicative of the majority of the Saints supporter population.

In saying that, we have been quite impressive so far this season, and *should* be 4-0 in a couple of weeks time.

Well look who's back on top of the ladder after another percentage boosting win. Unfortunately we just missed out on the 100 point flogging I predicted (if only Clinton Jones could kick straight) but it's close enough.

Catch us if you can Blues and Doggies.
