Yes OP they are on the verge of something 'great'.
Great disappointment.

They got fked over by the coalition in covid? No team has ever survived after hitting 0-3! Look what happened to University!
Or worse still, Vossy still there at 0-3 and come up against Collingwood (their home game). If that occurs, season will be hanging on a thread and will be over if they lose to bulldogs and fall to 0-3
Yep. Still got the likes of Worpel, Dear and Lewis to come back too! This year... Sydney need to choke for someone else to win it.
As for future years. There's a club with a strong premiership pedigree starting to build nicely that should start worry a few clubs wishing to contend in the next few years.
The thing with Carlton is that it's not just about their best 6, or 7, or 10. You look at the difference between the quality of the next level of players. Here is the list of Carlton players I’d currently rate as very good to excellent footballers:
Cripps
Saad
Weitering
Newman (ACL)
Curnow
Cerra
Walsh
TDK
That’s 7 playing this season.
Here is the list for the Lions:
Zorko
Neale
Cameron
Andrews
McCluggage
Dunkley
McInerney
Bailey
Rayner
Starcevich
Ashcroft
That’s 11.
Then GWS:
Greene
Whitfield
Coniglio
Kelly
Himmelberg
Hogan
Taylor
Daniels
Green
Ash/Idun (I’ll count one of those two)
Buckley
Callaghan
So there’s 12 for GWS.
And Geelong:
Danger
Blicavs
Cameron
Stewart
Miers
Smith
Z Guthrie
Close
Stengle
Holmes
SDK
Dempsey
That’s 12.
Needless to say, Carlton are absolutely nowhere near being in flag contention.

TDK would be better than any of our rucks. Weitering would obviously slot in ahead of a raw kid like COS or Mullin. Walsh and Cripps ahead of (say) Bowes and Knevitt. One of Charlie or Harry ahead of Shannon Neale. Probably Saad as the experienced head over one of our younger fringe-22 types. The thing with Carlton is that it's not just about their best 6, or 7, or 10. I did an exercise with Carlton and Collingwood's list, picking the best 30 players from both lists. 18 of the 30 were Collingwood players.
It would be the same, if not more pronounced, with the likes of Brisbane, GWS, Geelong, etc.
I also think you were a bit generous listing Saad for Carlton. It's not 2022 any more, and I'd have Coleman or Lohmann - two players who weren't listed for Brisbane but have done more in finals than any Carlton player aside from Walsh - ahead of Saad going into 2025.
And yet last time we played all our plodders seemed unbeatable... How oddTDK would be better than any of our rucks. Weitering would obviously slot in ahead of a raw kid like COS or Mullin. I'm starting to struggle a bit after that.
That felt like the wave of momentum Richmond were riding 2017. But then it just fizzled out.And yet last time we played all our plodders seemed unbeatable... How odd
Fizzled out is one way to put it.That felt like the wave of momentum Richmond were riding 2017. But then it just fizzled out.
A danger to themselves and their own fans sure.Until they are mathematically out of the 8 they will always be a dangerous side imo
