Are Essendon the real deal?

Makes absolutely no sense.

How does that make no sense? using the boundry as well as they do requires precision and vision, using the guts requires balls and pace.

Essendon are playing a variation of two or three different styles is what you are all saying.
Therefore we are playing Essendon style football. Not any other "style".

This is why your name is what it is.. and why my name is what it is.

The game possesses some similarities with the Collingwood-like press.

Although, we seem to use the corridor more than Collingwood do. The Pies are more fond of the boundary, but since they've got elite kickers on their list, they can afford to do that.

Surely sides with elite kickers use the corridor.

The boundary is a sanctuary for sides looking to gain territory and win the next stoppage.

Geelong is full of elite kicks, they bring the ball through the corridor at every chance.

Nothing makes sense to you.

You seem like a lost cause.

Why are you even here? The big boys are talking.

What a pathetic post.

Your logic cannot be followed, keep the cheap shots to yourself.

In what sense?

In the sense that you said the same thing that was wrong the first time. Repeating something wrong doesn't make it right the second time.

As i stated earlier we are playing a combo of Geelong and Collingwood gameplan but more Collingwood.

A few examples of why it isn't as you said "Geelong all over"

We don't over possess the ball and use multiple handball options. (Like Thompson said he tried to get them to change last year and kick the ball more but the players wouldn't buy in).

We don't share the ball around, especially in the forward line.

We generally don't move the ball through the corridor nor do we look to it as first option although we will use it if it is an obvious option.

We use the Collingwood style press.

We play 2 true ruckman.

The thread was started after one round, and they have been hampered with injury of late.

All of a sudden they're no good? Besides the top four teams tell me who really is better?

West Coast, Sydney, Fremantle ( if they weren't decimated through injury ) & maybe St Kilda.

Melbourne, Essendon, North Melbourne in the next bracket.

Essendon are a work in progress. Have shown slight improvement this year, but still have a long way to go.

Depends on your definition of deal. They could still make the 8, they would of taken that at the beginning of the year. Would want to start winning by beating the Hawks on Friday night though.

Probably since Rodney Eade opened his big mouth and declared us top 4 contenders from rd1. No doubt it snowballed from there. We were never a chance.

That's probably true, although Rodney would think there's at least a dozen teams that look top four material based on how they compare with his team.

And yet they have beaten all these teams barring Fremantle and Sydney. Against the Swans they lost to by less than a kick, in a game that they were hurt by umpires for most of the day on top of been up on the scoreboard all day.

Yes they are work in progress (when it comes to becoming a premiership contender), yes they have improved slightly, I'd say considerably, and yes they have still long way to go.

But apart from the top 4 teams they have not been any less consistent than anybody else this season. To suggest those teams are in a bracket above when they have shown to be better than 3 of those 4 already in direct matches against this season, is preposterous at best.
