Are the Collingwood power brokers looking every which way but in the mirror?

Eh?
So a football club is looking for a specific role position person.
And you get instability?
That's some leap.
Fair enough if that's what you think.

Respect everything you say around here SV, I think you can be a bit one eyed at times, massive issues at the club we can all see it.

A bit one eyed?
A lot one eyed?

All jokes aside, I think the two single biggest issues at the club are:

1. We need to win more (the obvious)
2. We have a way too long in time leadership off field.

Most things stem from there.

Great irony will be, if we won more it will mask issue Two in my view.
But I just don't see Ed remotely thinking of moving on.

The football director role per se is an own goal this time.

If we are a bit outside looking in we had Rod Eade who got offered a Senior coach role, that we can't do anything about.
Then Neal Balme who was stable presence for a few years now but then we self goaled with the great Gubby.

I guess depends how you look at it.

To be fair there is a lot of mayo on that. As to get 5 in 3 years she is counting who ever stepped up in the interim when Rocket got the job at the Suns and Marcus Wagner who is filling in now
Certainly is, but we still need more stability in the role. In terms of who we've had Eade was the interim appointment when Walsh left and we didn't have an interim appointment between Eade and Balme.

Geoff Walsh - October 2006 to July 2013
Rodney Eade - July 2013 to October 2014
Neil Balme - November 2014 to September 2016
Graeme Allan - September 2016 to November 2016
Marcus Wagner (interim) - November 2016 to ...

Does anyone see Gubby returning after his 12 months? If he had only got 6 months, would we have 'worn it'? I like what he seems to have done in such a short time. Given some definite direction in terms of players out and in. Didn't realise that he removed Leading Teams but, having been through that program, I think it was a positive move.

Whoops. Wish that I had visited this thread first !!
Gubby accepts 12 month ban and resigns

Honestly I just don't care.
Internal admin positions come and go.
Meh.
Yes the mythical football director has gone through the rounds, though Balme was there for quite a few years.
CEO position been long term.
Board unruffled decade plus.
Prez there for ever.
Coach steady five years going to 6
Coach before there 12 years
So all in all Collingwood is rock steady in reality.
The rest I smischief making.
The Gubby silliness was an own goal, happens, move on is my motto.

Then why post if you don't care? I see a number from you in this thread in a topic you don't care about.

We were once the benchmark and we're now meh as a club yet we have posters such as yourself with an apathetic attitude to yet at the same time are so resolute in defense of the club. It just makes no sense!

The greatest concern for me is that the critical views on here are becoming more and more abundant and being proved wrong less and less!

Or should I re-phrase I don't care enough.
But I care enough to post Something or other.

I just don't worry if an internal position is being filled.
It will be filled, and at the end winning will determine the outcome of our new football director.

See that's the problem. A good football manager will help get the wins hence why we're such a mess currently because we haven't had the right person in the role since Walsh departed.

Personally I hope that Wagner keeps the job.

Likewise with the proviso being only if Walsh declines because that would see two birds killed with one stone!

Exactly mayo, Walsh was more than 3 years ago

Let's face it the Allan affair has been a disaster but in the wash up I would happily have Graham Wright or Walsh at the club in preference to Gary Pert taking on the job. Wright was a classy player and would seem the perfect man for the job. Hine being retained with Rendell would give us some depth, though after reading Knightmare's assessment of the rookie draft ............ :(

Problem with Wright is hes not only a classy player, hes also a classy person. Unlikely to walk away from the Hawks mid contract just because his old club wants to chuck some money at him.

Yep I think Caro is on the money here. Its a bit of a debacle. The club needs to stop name hunting and commit to somebody new and stick to that plan. I certainly dont want Pert doing the role.

That said I dont think its a debacle the club wont overcome. Its only another overrated football admin job.

Crazy idea...but perhaps the club should just advertise the position on SEEK.
Or RSVP  :D

Eddie's been there too long, but the football managers not long enough.

The key is to be stable, but not too stable stale. But what is peak stable?

I agree with this, but have offered an EFA alternative.

Whoever we get must be completely faultless. Dark forces are at play.
To develop an unknown quantity in that role means the media trolls will feast on the fear and uncertainty that so many are already displaying. The comparisons to the past 5 yrs with Bucks will be there and rightly so.
If people think our club is in disarray or meltdown, wait till the time comes that Bucks has to be extended. Every maggot with an anti (Bucks/Eddie/Collingwood) will coming out of the woodwork and will get plenty of media attention. Knowing that might Bucks leave, potentially Eddie falling on his sword as collateral damage and Pert already exploring his options, what would you rather have in place: a seasoned veteran or a rookie. btw they get to choose who our next coach is going to be and what not.
FWIW am not that keen on a complete renewal / reset across all levels of the administration and certainly not with newbies as most likely survivors.
To me that is beyond going in dry and reminds of a nickname I saw on one of my games the other day: StrapOn Cactus

Happens.
Meh
Happens but why DID it happen?
Walsh left on bad terms.
Balm left us, was head hunted back and then undermined and left.
Gubby saga is well documented.

Eade left for a senior coaching role - yes, fair enough, that happens.

The fish rots from the head. The Club has gone from being Our Collingwood to Eddie's sandpit. The president appoints the board and the key employees and cannot admit error.

You say we just need to win. I say winning follows quality administration. We won't win consistently in the foreseeable future. Short term the list is simply inadequate. Medium term, the only way we will start winning is if members force change which just won't happen. Failing that the only message is a big drop off in numbers. I fear all that would happen then is that internet carping will be re-labeled treachery. This is Collingwood as it is now.
