Um we won the grand final (beating 1st ranked team from this season), went 21 and 4 for the year and won all our finals. Definitely deserve the premiership just as the Hawks did last year.

For mine the term 'deserve' indicates an element of presumption. As in winning the premiership is 'getting what they deserve'. It irked me when I heard Scarlett going on about it, as it struck me that there's an expectation that they deserve more than one flag because of "how great the team is". But that's the thing, no team deserves to win a premiership any more than any other team, so its a crap thing to say because of that. You get what you get because you worked bloody hard for it and fought harder for it on the day. Nothing more.

And, there's plenty of people who would disagree with you about the Hawks deserving theirs last year. eg: All the 'Bradbury' references. I disagree, obviously, but I don't think it needs to be said that any team 'deserves' a premiership.

Really? Sounds like nitpicking semantics. After you win, you have the right to say you deserved the lot, as an analysis of how you got to the wonderful place that you did. The team who wins deserves it all, Hawks deserved it last year for their gut hunger and nerve. Same with the deep character the Cats displayed this year.

Well, you're right... there is no ownership of a premiership, no "deserving" you have to earn it. Hawthorn earnt it in 08... Geelong earnt it 3 days ago... if you're not prepared to earn it, you get biatch slapped.
