Some of you have probably seen this via FB, or somewhere, but for anyone who hasn't:

Simon Taufel, who is a former ICC Elite Umpire and current member of the MCC laws sub-committee, has written this post on LinkedIn discussing the Jonny Bairstow dismissal during the second Ashes Test at Lord's:

"Was Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal at Lords a breach of the Spirit of Cricket? This is a question I have been inundated with, so I thought it best to share my thoughts publicly by asking everyone a question or eight to consider…

1. "Have you seen any umpire tell a fielding side that the keeper standing back is not allowed to attempt a stumping?

2. "Was there a complaint from anyone when Bairstow tried to stump Marnus exactly the same way in the first innings?

3. "What has Jonny Bairstow said about his dismissal? He has been very quiet. Why?

4. "My experience is when people don’t like a dismissal under the Laws of Cricket, they cite the Spirit of Cricket to support their view.

5. "Which part of the codified Preamble (the Spirit of Cricket) was breached by the fielding side?

6. "What did the fielding side do in effecting a legitimate dismissal that unfairly impacted the ability of the batter in their attempt not to be dismissed? (Did they run into him or distract him or prevent him making good his ground?)

7. "Should a batter be immune from dismissal as per the Laws by simply being negligent (and leaving his ground too early)?

8. "Did England retire Ben Duckett when they disagreed with the Starc catch decision as per the Laws and umpires’ decision?

"The hypocrisy and lack of consistency from some people and groups is quite interesting and concerning for the future of our game.

"Maybe I am the odd one out here?

"The good news is that we are actively engaged with Test cricket, the best form of the game."

Damning.

Sorry DW, Ive been away for business and just got back.

My team was going to stay unchanged bar Lyon - I assume I get a sub for him.

Like last match I would have taken Smith as my Multi Ball.

I haven't actually watched any of the match or have any idea of the score

I'll leave it with you

Cheers

I’ll just play it straight up the line gm. Rollover team as per 2nd test. Carey remains your PP. Carey is yet to bat and could get a duck but Smith went fairly cheaply so at this stage it’s probably better for you anyway.

Teams are entered. Mofra also gets a rollover team. Please check your team to make sure there are no errors. I’m working on a small phone screen which isn’t easy with spreadsheets!

Scoreboard updated as at the tea break. See scoreboard above (previous page).

Stunning hitting from Marsh.
Snarls Barkley on a spree!

G’night folks.

Thanks DW

I Just had a look and I think I got Cummins as my sub for Lyon according to the rules.

Not sure who is the tactical genius directing Aussie bowling, possibly never heard of yorkers or full-length balls. But the short-pitched stuff is working a treat... if you're trying to concede runs.

Got back in time to watch the footy when we were in front and apparently playing well. As soon as I switch it on they kick 6 goals to our 1
Game finished I switch over to the cricket where we are all over them. What happens next? 1-50 in 20 minutes in a low scoring game.

Beginning to wonder if I’m the problem here…

Warner out for 4 (first over) and 1 in this game. At least he lasted until the third over this time. Looks as out of touch as Bailey Smith.

Surely he has to go for the 4th test.

Option 1:
Bring in Harris or Renshaw as opener. Don’t like it but they’d probably get a handful more runs than Warner.

Option 2:
Mitch Marsh to open and bring Green back into the middle order. Much better IMO.

By rights Warner should retire (or be retired) at the end of this series. Great career but his best is way behind him now.

I think option B is more likely to be Head to open and Green at 5. He did a great job opening in India. I sort of think he is too suited and important at 5 to make that switch but it has to be worth some serious thought.

I don’t think they’ll make the switch. Opening partnerships in the first two Tests were 29, 61, 73 and 63 which is solid. I think the only chance he is dropped is if the Ashes are still alive going into the fifth Test and their hand is forced. Otherwise we wait until he retires after the Sydney Test.

He’s very fortunate to have been selected at all, well past his best and was truly awful over there last time. What happened this Test is what I expected to happen all series and expect to continue for the rest of it. Broad has his measure and he has no response for it. They just have no faith in the other openers, maybe fairly but it’s hard to think they’d fare much worse.

Should go but won’t. Candice has sandpaper receipts and is not afraid to use them.

ASHES COMP 4th TEST

Fourth test at Manchester starts tonight. The Ashes, Le Tour, Wimbledon, Women's World Cup, Netball World Cup, the footy ... it's so hard to keep up! At least we don't have to worry about the Commonwealth Games.

Anyway here are the multipliers for the fourth test, so get your team in. It's expected that all the 10 players in green will play and then one of Green or Murphy (probably Green) will play. Boland is out.

To enter:
Just pick four players. Name one of them as your power player.

All the rules and how points are scored are in the OP ... with a few modifications introduced before the 2nd test - mainly ditching the power play session in favour of a power player (PP) for the whole test.

Leaderboard:
Here is the series leaderboard after three tests. Mofra now on top. Impressive effort from Bulldoge who missed the first test but has already moved up to 9th with a third and a first placing at his only two starts.
