Given the match likely won't reach capacity, there's no need to register for a ticket. Just scan your membership card at the gate upon entry.

That's fine for this weekend but if we start generating interest and attract crowds to preseason games I'd be peeved to have to pay for a game when I pay over $1500 for my families memberships.

Would be happy to register my intent through the club.

Hi Lions Insider

As a Melbourne member I was wondering if there were any plans for a coaches/ceo meet with supporters in Melb as we have had in previous years? Was also accompanied by a tour of the historical society museum at Etihad. Was always well attended and gave us a chance to hear from coaches etc. What functions will be available for Vic members this year and will there be a lions only area at the St.Kilda game? Currently any info on the clubs website for Victoria relates to 2017.

Hi Lockie,

Unfortunately there won't be a members forum this year. Our Vic family day is on Sunday, May 13, where you will be able to meet the players and coaches. Will have more details on this soon.

The Lions area on Level 3 (general admission) for St Kilda game will be located between Aisle 41/42.

Vic pages on our website will be updated very soon.

Cheers,

Perhaps into the future we could play 1 pre-season game in Melbourne.

Great for the supporters & we may actually get a decent hitout without ridiculously adverse weather. Let's face it we lose at least one game a season up north & you would need to question the value of some that have been managed to be played. ;)
Not ideal given this is happening on an annual basis.

Last time we tried that it pi$$ed down at Princess Park

Bet it won't at Etihad Stadium (if their is no concerts, of course).
Perhaps we could even have a pre-season family day, just like the good old days.
That same day the roof at Etihad collapsed in parts and the Saints v Freo preseason game there ended up closed to spectators. :p

Hi Lions Insider,
Unfortunately once again the AFL have scheduled the AFLW not thinking about us Lions, are the Lions going to express their concerns with the AFLW GF starting at 1305 and the Lions round 1 game commencing at 1535, clearly any Lions supporter will have to miss either the end of the GF or the start of our round 1 game.

One would wonder if there was ever any thought as to having it as a curtain raiser to our game or the Bulldogs game, similar to last year.

Can you suggest to Michael Whiting that he gets the photos right on the AFL site. Brittany Gibson's name currently under a photo of Jess Wuetschner.

Hi,

The article text is Michael Whiting's work. Headlines are created by AFL Media and photos and captions are done by the photographers. We've asked them to fix up the Woosha photos as they have also pushed across to our website. A lot of the photographers are freelancers so the occasional mistake is bound to happen

Cheers,

Hi,

An early start at 12.35 now is very helpful for fans looking to do the double! We are looking into buses to transport fans between the two stadiums as well. Will hopefully have good news on this soon.

Logistically there are plenty of reasons the game isn't at Etihad. If it was a curtain raiser, and given entry is free, a similar situation to last year at Metricon for the grand final would have to happen (fans having to leave the stadium and re-enter). This would mean the AFLW game would have to start very early which isn't ideal.

A curtain closer could have potentially worked!

Update apprciated

More of a suggestion than a question.

My first reaction to Collingwood (taking a leaf from Port Adelaide) adopting Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" as a pre-game anthem was "lol, cringe" but I have to admit I have for years had a clear vision of the Lions doing something similar with Powerfinger's "Pick You Up".

It's perfect. Anthemic, a rallying call about having each others' backs when things get tough, brilliant to sing along to (starts slow and emotional and then kicks in for the chorus). And of course, it's from one of the quintessential Brisbane bands - I mean, they had an album called Vulture Street.

Just a suggestion Lions_Insider in case the club is pondering the "unofficial rock anthem" approach. Better than some cringeworthingly cliched ACDC "na na na na na!" stuff. You only get once chance at this sort of thing if you want to make it work.

First verse is perfect.

When you are set to throw in your hand
When you are far from home
When what you believe is buried in your hands
When you feel outgrown

I'll be the one to pick you up again
When you decide you've had enough of it
I'll be the one
I'll be the one

Love this song

Also completely unrelated but Lions_Insider has there been any work over the offseason on providing better parents facilities at the Gabba anywhere for lions games? I've got a few new parents asking in a parents group and I'd love to reply to them with something more than "good luck the Gabba parents facilities are on par with an 80s built strip mall"

Cheers

Lions_Insider, can you please do something about the volume of the PA system? It's beyond uncomfortable during the breaks. Footy can be quite social if you let everyone talk to each other - I felt like I've lost half my voice just from trying to hold a conversation with my fellow members one row back at half time.
