Suggestions of course, but correction?

What are you even talking about man?

You hand your teacher a draft of a practise essay. They say something like "you should probably signpost a bit more", or "you might want to consider rephrasing that sentence", or "that part isn't clear enough". You go home, make alterations, hand it back, and see if they spot anything else that could use some work.

Don't see the problem?

Not doing the HSC this year, doing it next year, so just skimming the results/rankings of schools.

Congrats the lot of you, especially those over 95- wow!

You obviously haven't read through this whole thread...

seems obvious to you, but I read the thread and many of the scores on here were very high, which indicates one of two things:

1. Only high scorers post
2. there are many intelligent people on BigFooty (highly unlikely)
3. Low scorers are embarrassed to indicate their own scores (understandable)

I'd also like to throw out there that many forum users are actually quite intelligent; hence them seeking a forum to voice their opinion (obviously many exceptions, but I reckon there would be a high ratio).

One thing I'd like to point out is... enter does not in anyway shape or form measure a person's 'intelligence'. It's one thing that shits me when people always conclude that just because someone gets a high enter, they instantly are made to sound like a genius. Obviously you'll need a half decent brain to get 99, but work ethic and time management are way more important than a person's intelligence in getting a high ATAR. IMO to get a good ATAR it's all about work ethic, how hard you work. The way I look at it, there's 10% of people who are just dumb asses and will get a shit ATAR no matter how hard they try. Then there's 80% of people in the average intelligence category where whoever works the hardest will get the best ATAR's. Then 10% are just freaks and even if they don't try they'll still get 99.

For the people who get a bad ATAR, it's not the end of the world there are many pathways to get into the course you want to do. I didn't do as well as I hoped but I realized just because I got an average ATAR it doesn't mean I'm 'dumb'. It just meant I didn't work hard enough during the year, or I just didn't cope with the pressures of VCE. Anyway, It's been proven that people who get 70-80 for their ATAR's on average earn a better income per annum. Obviously, you'd want to achieve the best ATAR possible to get into a better course, however again, the ATAR is only a small hurdle and isn't the be all and end all.

Bingo.

Well done.

Obviously people who score fairly well - want to brag. That's just natural.
People who do poorly - (generally) don't want to share it. Which is also natural.

Hence, most of the scores you see on forums and what not, are pretty good.

Yeah you're right. So long as you've done okay (75+...even 70+) you'll be fine. Even if you haven't got the required score to get in to your favoured course.

But if you've completely stuffed it up (i.e Below 60 or something like that) then you are just making it very, very hard for yourself.

What would be... the "average" for the HSC results? As in which % brackets are the most common?
70-80?
60-70?

Are you serious? 50?!

bell_curve.jpg

This is what it looks like. For every 99.95, there's a 00.05

When you get say a 60, it doesn't mean you get 60%. It means you have bet 60% of the population, and that you are in the top 40% etc.

That is a little unexpected, I thought the numbers would be alot higher.

Thanks though.

I thought it only worked by the bell curve for study scores? Because, for example, getting an ATAR of 85 means you're ahead of 85% of the population - and a normal (bell-curve) distribution wouldn't allow this.

I think it goes down by about 4-6; but the higher you get the less it is.

Don't pick subjects based upon their marking up or down; unless they are even in terms of your ability. So many kids found out this year that a 25 in methods scaling up to a 31 isn't as good as a 36 in another subject which scales down to a 33.
