Pat Rafter - US Open 1997 - is one I remember.
Not in the Top Ten. Only ever seeded in one Grand Slam tournament before that.

And then defended it the next year (when he WAS top 10) ... Having won the two back-to-back Masters series events that preceded it...
And he also usually went deep in doubles that he played almost every tournament.

That's a good performance. Before his injury Berretini was a top 5 player and was in the Wimbledon final.
Berretini is nearly back to his best, and has an unstoppable serve. He played Sinner at Wimbledon and Sinner won that game in 4 sets, with three tiebreakers.
