I'm sure that they'll appear on Footystats Diary soon, but a few interesting things about this years attendance stats (and yes I know the MCG redevelopment might skew some of them).

In order of Home attendance (include home games sold to other states)
Code:
Collingwood 551364
Adelaide 489765
Essendon 479099
West Coast 418847
Richmond 391933
Sydney 365181
Port Adelaide 350296
Brisbane 348892
Fremantle 337486
Hawthorn 326450
Kangaroos 322218
St Kilda 321393
Melbourne 307459
Carlton 301824
Geelong 285685
Bulldogs 275428
Interesting items:
Port #7 at home, but #16 away puts them #14 overall. I guess despite them being the top team, noone else wants to watch them.
Freo have climbed to #9 home, but still only #14 away and #12 total.
Carlton's poor season and 8 games at Optus put them #14 for home attendance... only ahead of the Dogs and Geelong.
Despite Richmonds poor season, they still had a good following... the bandwagon mustn't have broken down yet!

Pope,

You being the super stats man, see if you can work out a percentage (this would be difficult) for some of the clubs in regards to attendence Vs ground capacity.

ie. Freo avg 30680 per game / Subi ground capacity 43000 = 71% capacity every game

It's hard to judge that list as the interstate teams play a team from interstate 11 out of 12 times (brisbane and sydney not at all) so the opposition have less supporters than they would 2 melb or 2 adelaide teams played...melb teams play eachother more often coz there is more of them lifting the crowd.....but u could also argue that coz there is 10 teams in melb it leaves less supporters per club.

Any comments Grayham on sydney in relation to Collingwoods massive appeal? For a team that operates in a ten team town, compared to a team that has 3.8 mill people to draw from, then your teams result crowd wise are not stacking up as the crowd pullers you seem to say they are.

Perhaps the cost of living in sydney is too much to go to the footy.
What with the theatre and all to choose from.

Average attendances:

Collingwood: 50124
Adelaide: 44524
Essendon: 43554
West Coast: 38077
Richmond: 35630
Sydney: 33198
Port Adelaide: 31845
Brisbane: 31717
Fremantle: 30681
Hawthorn: 29677
Kangaroos: 29293
St. Kilda: 29218
Melbourne: 27951
Carlton: 27439
Geelong: 25971
Bulldogs: 25039

Probably a fair indication of each team's level of support.

2 points I'm sure you dont want to hear.
1) Since Sydney doesnt have a derby, its only fair to compare non-derby games in any comparison that involves Sydney. That removes all the Anzac day, queens birthday, etc games.
2) Sydney is an 11 team town. 12 teams during the super 12 season. Most, no all, of the time we spank those.

Based on Grayham's stats, those figures are obviously wrong. Or else all those supporters who attended COllingwood and Essendon games were Sydney fans. :D:D

Wrong again Dan, you've left out Sydney's outstanding successes.

We should demand compensation from the MCC, AFL and State Government from cutting our numbers. Standard practice you disrupt your tenant's business you compensate.

Bet the AFL still rips money out of us via equalisation.

No success for past 20 odd years however we still manage to pull a reasonable crowd.

Don't confuse opposition supporters turning up with your own drawing power. Expect figures similar to other mid range vic clubs next year with no guaranteed dates against the real drawing clubs in Vic.

i always knew collingwood was a common club for the common supporter.

if it makes you pie supporters sleep better at night, knowing you arent alone, im happy for you.

by the way, who gives how many go to such & such games - "collingwood the big crowd pullers...." - how insecure are pie supporters? really!!

They used to play all of their home games out of the MCG too.
Play most of their home games at the REDUCED sized Docklands!

Might account for something, dont ya think? ;)

You'd have to ask them why they did that:confused:

Looking forward to the new reconstructed MCG in 2006 myself where we will smash all the crowd records. :)
