Again ill ask the question. Where did these bombers supporters go. Spoilt by our success and nick off when we dont go so well. Have a look at the filth. There through thick and then and i respect them immensly for that.

Pull your finger out essendon fans and get to some more games next year.

Those stats also indicate in victoria anyway there is only a big 2 now. Richmond and carlton are becoming increasingly irrelevant

Pope,

You being the super stats man, see if you can work out a percentage (this would be difficult) for some of the clubs in regards to attendence Vs ground capacity.

ie. Freo avg 30680 per game / Subi ground capacity 43000 = 71% capacity every game

I've guessed some attendances shown here (Some just guesses, others based on highest crowd over the last 2 years

Stadium Capacity
AAMI Stadium 51,000
Gabba 37,000
Skilled Stadium 25,000
Manuka Oval 20,000
Optus Oval 35,000
Subiaco 43,000
Telstra Stadium 80,000
Telstra Dome 45,000
M.C.G. 70,000
S.C.G. 44,000
York Park 20,000

With the average results over the 22 weeks being:

Collingwood 86%
Adelaide 80%
West Coast 79%
Brisbane 77%
Essendon 77%
Geelong 74%
St Kilda 68%
Carlton 67%
Richmond 67%
Kangaroos 67%
Bulldogs 62%
Fremantle 62%
Port 60%
Sydney 60%
Hawthorn 56%
Melbourne 50%

Feel free to correct me on my Capacity numbers and I'll post updated %.

1) Since Sydney doesnt have a derby, its only fair to compare non-derby games in any comparison that involves Sydney. That removes all the Anzac day, queens birthday, etc games.
2) Sydney is an 11 team town. 12 teams during the super 12 season. Most, no all, of the time we spank those.

That is the point, Coll's popularity makes nearly every Melb based match a "derby" type game for us, whilst still theoretically drawing on 10% of the melb population of 3.3mill. Wheras you should be able to fill your stadiums every time you meet the "enemy" (that being any Vic side)b/c you can draw on 3.8mill by yourselves. Yet you do it once (coll:D ). Do you think that if we played the day after Anzac day, Coll v Ess wouldn't still fill the stadium, we did it last Friday nite. Every time we play Carl, Ess, Rich and a few other Melb sides, we draw big crowdscrowds, b/c we are popular. the top six crowds this year involved Coll, so that either makes the other four sides invlived very popular or you look to the common denominator, COLLINGWOOD

perhaps you are either not an attractive proposition in a RL town, perhaps you should come back to Melb if you cant compete with a code that pulls crowds of 10 000 or have to rely on Coll giving you $500K by appearing in your city.:D

Well, how many gmes of Coll must I disregard then, all Vic based sides. What are your crowds when you play Adelaide, Port, freo and W/c.in Syd? In the 20 000's

We really are making fair comparisons!!! (though you would still be ahead on adjusted figures)

If Collingwood (and Essendon) reckon they are such big crowd pullers why not put it to a REAL test. Have your ANZAC day game at the MCG but stage the return bout at StadeOz. See what crowds you can draw with no home team crowd?

You'd probably do quite well and it would certainly assist both club's national marketing efforts. A successful game would also be good for footy in Sydney.

Interesting idea!!! That would mean Essendon next season would be the home team for the match up there. It would come down to how many fans of both sides made the trip, because I feel it would be pretty close as to the relative size of each team's Sydney (and Canberra) supporter groups!

This is stupid.

There are usually 4 or 5 games every weekend in Melbourne. Only 1 in Sydney every fortnight (sometimes less/more). Sydney also have a higher population than Sydney so why cant Sydney have sell out crowds up there each game they play. Sydney will never be the big crowd pullers.

You wrote thos post in responde to the "all-time 22 week records" being listed by me.

Essendon supporters havn't gone anywhere. We are always up, or around the million mark. This year was the first year we were below the million mark since 1996 (and that includes 1997 when we were 14th), and we will pass the million mark this week in our 23rd game of the year.

The top year of the table (1998) was a year in which we finished 8th. The all time atendance record was set when we were 8th and we only went above a 50% win record in round 17 that year. From rounds 2-16 in 1998 we had a negative win-loss record. Despite that, it was a crowd record for any club over 22 weeks. Ever.

Imagine if we finished on top of the ladder in '98 like we did in '99, '00 and 01?

Theres no need to be insecure, the stats speak for themselves.

Obviously Colonial had an impact on crowd in '00 and '01 but why didnt Essendon break the '98 record in '99 since they finished top and were still a tendant of the G.

Maybe part of the reaosn was that in 1998 every game was impoprtant because we were on the brink of the top-8. I remember a huge match in round 21 1998 against the Bulldogs that drew 67,000 primarily because of the importance of the match on our final-8 chances.

In 1999, we were in a consolidated position in the top-4 for most of the year. The games, perhaps, weren't as important. Evidence is the round 21 match in 1999 against Richmond were we secured the minor premiership. It drew 48,000. In 1998, we played Richmond in round 16 and we were 7-8 going into the match. The crowd ws 83,000.

I reckon our most impressive crowd in 1999 was 55,000 against West Coast at the MCG. All Essendon fans. Tell me another club that's done that aganst West Coast.

I reckon the games against Sydney we're I think some drew 70k with around 60k being Essendon would have been the best or the 87k versus WC in '96.

We drew 62,000 versus Sydney in 1998, 69,000 versus them in 1996, and 50,000 against them in 1999.

Sydney still have a reasonably strong Victorian following due to their South Melbourne link, and in 1996, it is not unreasonable to assume that there were 15,000 Swans fans there (they were minor premiers remember)

You'd have to ask them why they did that:confused:
Because the Bombers get income from ground signage at Docklands, and can sell more reserved seats.
They may have lost a few thousand from their home games by moving there, but they were MCC members who Essendon get nothing out of anyway. So financially it's no loss if they're not there.
