Instead it’ll remain a hysteria issue and we’ll continue to store low-level waste in places that are unfit for purpose (ie hospital and university basements), and now this military waste in metro Adelaide.

It could have been stored at a proper, well-maintained, and high security storage facility up north, but the greens had to go about spreading misinformation and scare stories to the local indigenous population up there to get them to oppose it.

Voting for the greens isn't going to solve the issue, it's going to make sure the issue remains unresolved ad nauseam.

I'm a greens voter but some nuclear waste is necessary and we already store it in Adelaide, as well as much more dangerous chemicals and waste.

I think this is generally a mountain out of a molehill and we should probably just have a big storage facility in the vast expanses of nothingness in the north of the state.

WA just won the rights to maintain the nuclear sub and are expanding the docks at Henderson just south of Freo in preparation of doing the work.

That seems to be the logical place to store it, rather than transporting it several thousand kms after its been taken off the sub.

We don't need nuclear power.

We don't need to become the toxic dumpsite for all of Australia's, UK's and US's waste, just so we can help defend our trade routes to China in case they want to attack us and then we can't trade with them, oh wait.

You don't want your house prices in Port Adelaide dropping by 50% because of an alleged toxic nuclear spill that may or may not have happened.

You don't want the entire state tainted by the radiation perception by competing businesses in NSW, Victoria etc etc.

Note: Facility activities can only occur in a designated zone, and submarine activities and material activities can occur either in a designated zone or in relation to an Australian submarine.

(2) Each of the following is a designated zone:
(a) the Stirling designated zone;
(b) the Osborne designated zone;
(c) any other area in Australia that is prescribed by the regulations to be a designated zone.

(3) The Stirling designated zone is the area known as HMAS Stirling at Garden Island in Western Australia, as described by the regulations.

(4) The Osborne designated zone is the area known as Osborne Naval Shipyard in South Australia, as described by the regulations.
