15 pts 8 rebs from Landale

1st NBA double double for Cooks

Patty got some court time with players rested. 12 points but shot poorly at 3/11.

Xavier Cooks would have improved his chances of representing the Boomers hugely in recent times. He's been defending much taller players and rebounding well which is great news for the Boomers who's biggest weakness shapes to be big man depth in my opinion.

My current World Champs team would be
Starting 5
Landale
Thybulle
Green
Giddey
Mills

Ingles
Kay
Reath
Exum
Cooks
Daniels
Jack White

Goulding would be unlucky but with Josh Green and Dante Exum showing such great improvement with their 3 point shooting in recent times I think we need Jack Wite's ability to rebound and defend bigger players more than Goulding's three point shooting.

Yeah, feels like we'll be too small. Cooks coming on is a great thing for us. Still unconvinced by Reath as our second C.

That line-up appears small in terms of height but it's not small in terms of length. Thybulle defends bigs often at NBA level with his 6-11 wingspan. That's why Ive put him in my starting 5. It will also help having a 6-8 point guard who led his team in rebounding this season in Josh Giddey. He's great at helping out on the boards.

Same here. I would've had Thon Maker instead of Reath.
Who would be the other options?
Pinder, Sam Froling, Humphries, Mathiang?
Is Baynes still a viable option, at least for the World Cup?

Yeah I think it will be a close call between Reath or Thon Maker. My view is that we looked way better without Baynes than with him last Olympics. I think Cooks is well suited to play the 4 at international level as is Thybulle. For whatever reason having two genuine big men on the floor doesn't seem to work for the Boomers.

Until recently our bigs were there for defensive purposes . They were there to stop even bigger blokes Any scoring was a bonus . Mills , Delly Joe did the bulk of scoring . Now the likes of Jock , thon etc can score .

Exactly. That's why I'm so optimistic about the next World Champs. I think the length of the likely team will allow us to rotate a front court of seemingly smaller line-ups in terms height but in reality will have enough length to defend and rebound while providing way more scoring options than we have in previous years. Josh Giddey will also be.great asset in terms of helping us match the bigger front courts on the boards. His rebound average of 7.9 per game is better than many starting NBA forwards and centres.

Judging how Thon and Duop compare is hard considering I have no idea of the standard of the league they are playing in as they are both playing in China. Joseph Lual-Acuil Jr is also playing in China and is another player I think could be an option. His stats look great, but again I'm not sure how to judge the standard of the league he is playing in. Considering JLA just signed with Melbourne United so Boomers coaches will be able have a good look at him this season. I think he could be the wildcard to make the team.

With back to back most improved player awards I think Keanu Pinder will be close to be selected if he continues to improve. He seems to be playing very well in a very strong Spanish League in recent times.

Brock Motum would be another option that I think should be considered. He is doing well in a decent league playing in Japan. Ive always thought he had a game suited to international basketball.

I’m still curious about whether we can pick JLA, since he has played for South Sudan at the World Cup qualifiers.

I'm pretty sure we can I think its the same eligibility rules as with juniors. Aaron Baynes played fo NZ as a junior but chose Australia to play for as a senior as he had duel citizenship.

I haven't heard if he's made himself available yet. We'll have a better idea once the Euroleague season is played out. If he's healthy it wouldn't surprise me for him to put his hand up.

Dante has always made the Boomers a priority in the past so he'd be a certain starter I would have thought. His play in recent times playing for one of the best teams in Europe has been fantastic,. The style of basketball in the league he plays in is more similar to international basketball than the NBA is. I think not only will he play for the Boomers but he'll play a level that will get him back into the NBA. People forget he is only 27. That's the same age Joe Ingles made an NBA roster for the first time.
