Much like the AFL it's a fairly predictable result. Nine were never serious, Ten / Paramount need to get bigger and Seven
/ Kayo were never going to let a big sport go without a replacement.
AFL got a $200m+ per year increase at least. CA is basically getting the same deal as last time.

Why would CA want to work with someone who sue them every time things don’t go the way they want? Especially when the sole goal is to lower the value of the deal? It’s like an abusive relationship at this point.

Unless CA offered a product & did not deliver .... think about that in the context of an abusive relationship.
You've been dudded & want the pain to stop.

The lawsuit is definitely more churlish this time, complaining about the quality of the product during a once-in-a-century pandemic. It’s just buyer’s remorse. Even now, they are trying to carve out just the Tests, screw the rest of the game, which could end up behind a paywall.

Now that is a different approach to 'an abusive relationship'. Well done.

Once CA ruled out Ten/Paramount, Seven always made more sense than Nine. Come January Nine will be in tennis mode and cricket would have always played second fiddle.

I agree, as mentioned half the guys play BBL and live in different states. We expect touring teams to spend Christmas away from home and plenty of people work.

It's a no brainer and BBL on Christmas Day would be great. I don't think it has to be a derby although that would help the crowd, mostly it's a TV game.

I think it being a derby just helps it get established. easier to start with a Sydney derby match than Strikers/Hobart for example. Plus it goes back to what I think could be a selling point to the players, which is trying to minimise air travel over the xmas period. Could keep the Hobart vs a Melbourne team on xmas eve match that has happened for a few years now, sydney derby on xmas day and then decide whether to keep the Perth home game on Boxing Day (which to me seems unreasonable for the opposition team) or try Brisbane Heat vs the other Melbourne team (and maybe risk allowing the visiting team to travel on the day of the game) and then do Perth vs Strikers on the 27th.

West Aussie test players spend Xmas in Melbourne, play Boxing Day.

This bit near the end's interesting
"It’s understood Channel 7’s digital channel 7plus will gain some streaming rights in conjunction with Fox and Kayo."
Presumably it'll be limited to whatever Channel 7 shows in fta, but it's something.

Yep 7 obviously making a play with its streaming services. 7 will have afl and cricket on its streaming services

So the new deal is exactly the same as present, except whatever is currently on 7 is also gonna be available on 7plus?

Seems that way, only other difference is the cost; an extra $220 million over six years compared to the last one. Don't know if the split is any different.

'A shortened Big Bash League gives broadcasters what they were after and there is renewed hope the competition can be restored to its glory years.'
