As it looks like 7 will get their wish with the BBL containing fewer than 50 games, they have no excuse not to show every game live.
My guess is Foxtel will still have exclusivity for Saturday games, considering they even got that for a portion of rounds for the next AFL deal.
In exchange for that... is probably where the 7Plus part of the deal enters the equation.

I wonder if Paramount would have had better chance if they'd bought some rights to some overseas series in the last couple of years. That might have taken away the perception of them being an outsider.
I doubt it would have made much of a difference

Tbh they screwed it up with the last deal putting cricket behind a paywall in the first place, now they feel they're backed into that model. Sounds like more of the same crap really, ODIs will continue to decline, T20is aren't seen on FTA so no wonder we don't get into the World Cup, the BBL should be entirely on FTA, having Saturday exclusives to Foxtel is bin stuff. CA are a bunch of clowns.

They arent backed into it, CA wanted to make foxtel happy this deal was the only deal that could make foxtel happy as it avoided having to deal with rival channels that have their own streaming services, our board is compromised as it serves newscorps best interests not necessarily the sports interests.

It takes two to tango, witness 7s legal action that reminded CA that what they were selling, may not be what they are providing for the money paid.

The sporting codes & the participants are keen for more $s, otherwise cricket would still be on the ABC.

They'll end up like the UK. No one giving a stuff about the cricket

tests will continue to have a place in the minds of the Aussie cricketing public, but yeah, limited overs interest will continue to decline. As other nations gets worse at test cricket too, the product will suffer as well. Interesting future ahead for cricket in this country, don't think this deal helps it at all though.

It again works out to about 75% of the premium men's content (i.e. internationals + BBL) on FTA. Whereas for the AFL that figure is less than 50%. Not that it'll get through the heads of drama queens.

And yet AFL has record membership and healthy attendance

I had prepared a sooky diatribe about CA rejecting Paramount's massive $1.5b offer (which also would've had minimum 25% paywalled premium content), but I guess I'll just have to think of something else to complain about now.

And yet AFL has record membership and healthy attendance
Does the AFL get universally healthy attendance, or does it greatly vary depending on the teams playing, venue, timeslot etc... just like cricket?

Incorrect, 7plus coverage is limited to whatever Channel 7 shows, same as the new AFL deal.

Well I'm so blaming those official Tweets, and they are hopeless at the best of times.

It doesn't affect me, I tend to prefer the Fox coverage anyway.

I like this new deal, we have cut the BBL (1/3 off it and thank goodness it's too long). This allows players to be playing 4 day cricket in December

Interesting response from Paramount

“We understand the interest in the most recent cricket media rights process and while Paramount considered the rights on offer and, despite reports to the contrary by various media outlets, it became clear following consistent discussions with Cricket Australia, that our objectives and views on the future presentation of the sport and its value were not aligned,” a Paramount ANZ spokesperson said.

“As a result, Paramount never made a formal bid for the rights and did not actively pursue the rights over recent weeks.”

Media experts have claimed Paramount in fact saved CA from an embarrassing shortfall in the rights negotiations by going in hard with an early offer.

Paramount has refuted reports claiming that offer was $1.5 billion.

Best news I have heard since they cut Shield cricket into two halves

Yep I think that's the biggest positive instead of stopping in late Nov, they can play up to the second test in first class cricket and this means the 12th man in the test can go and play those matches.
