Was it just me, or was that painful to watch.

At one end you had a player with immense talent, who obviously has mental problems and coach problems at the moment, and is sooking like a baby (Dokic).

Yet at the other end you had a girl who also has talent, but whose first serve is so bad she struggle to reach a 30% percentage of 1st serves in, and then when she has a chance to serve for the match (twice), she can barely get a second serve in.

And they get paid the same as the men? I can never figure that out.

Kleybanova is going to break her neck one day. Bizzare technique.

Is it me or has it got even worse? Bizzare is the perfect word for it.

Dokic was horrific tonight, just terrible, not surprising and bye bye ranking (even thought I think she manages to stay in the top 100).

Was at there today, just a few notes:
- The Wickmayer match was hilarious, Yanina was playing terribly against basically a pusher who would hit the ball too short, and add on to that it rained every 2nd game in that 3rd set.
- Tomic won today, was a solid effort but to be honest wasn't impressed greatly, seems to have lost a little confidence or something, he's seemed to be even more defensive and his backhand down the line has fallen away, Rufin was awful and Tomic is going to blown away by Cilic.
- Del Potro might be having issues with a wrist, didn't look great today.
- Not surprising results from the rest of the Australians, although I was hoping Lindhal would get a set, still too inconsisant for this level.
- And i know it was annoying today but it was refreshing that the rain and cold was the factory instead of the damn heat.

Oh yeah, and decent effort by Luczak tonight, I saw him have a break point in that 1st, he should of taken it, choked on a drop shot.

I've seen Tomic play a few times now this summer (was o.s. last year so missed that), and let me get one thing straight, I want him to succeed. Also, I understand that he is young, growing, improving etc. I am not a hater.

But when I look at him play I see a guy who has very little game, and just doesn't have the weapons for the big leagues. Now I'm sure others have seen more of him and are better qualified than me to judge, and I know he won a lot at junior level so he must have something going for him, but that pushy little forehand is atrocious. The backhand is a nice solid shot, would be a good complement to a weapon of a forehand... The serve isn't dominant. So can someone better qualified than me tell me exactly what all the hype is about? Because I just see a Hewitt who doesn't as much as young...

Again, I want all the best for the kid, but I just don't see it in him.

No, he wasn't playing with the big boys today. He was playing some hack teenager, and he played accordingly. He didn't exhaust himself, he didn't try to blast the guy off the court, he pushed himself as far as he needed to and didn't take many risks.

If you think he'll be playing with similar tactics and style against quality opposition, you're insane.

I'm guessing you haven't watched him before tonight then. He has it in his arsenal to hit the ball far harder and flatter than he did today. He just didn't need to.

Honestly, you think that was Tomic hitting the ball as hard as he could? rofl......

Mate, I've seen him play from when he was 13/14 to now. I've seen him develop, he does not have the weapons to match it with the big boys at this time, you're kidding me. I know he wasn't hitting it as hard as he could. I've seen him play many times, he is not going to improve if he continues to play like this. At the moment it should be about development, not results.

Playing a piss poor game to win like that isn't going to make you win that way against Federer. Thats the reality, if Australia wants someone to knock Nadal/Federer/Djoker etc off they need some substance, some game. Not some pussy push the ball back shit that is junior tennis. He is NOT going to improve this way- again it seems to be all about results for him when it really shouldn't be, rather it should be to develop his game

If I can find a comparison its like Australian soccer. We're crabbing it alot with Verbeek, getting results, but playing shit football. However you know that once you get to the World Cup we're gonna get smashed. Thats the same with Tomic really, he doesn't have the game at all to do anything, there are many more promising young players out there.

A guy like Timo De Baker is a perfect example. World number one junior player, had a pretty good juniors record, but he wasn't given any free ride at all. He had to grind his way through futures, challengers, etc and work his way into the top 100. He's 21 now but he's had a good solid grounding and base of results, learning to work his way up the rankings and given no head start. Timo was a loose cannon. Very talented but thought he could just rock up and just win on the Mens tour. It isn't the case. He has had to refine his game, work hard, realized that he needed to improve his game and that results WEREN'T important to him yet.

De Baker played Roddick today and while the scoreline looked very easy for Roddick it was one of those matches where the scoreboard didn't tell the whole story. De Baker took it right up to Roddick and had numerous chances but couldn't take them. However he showed that he could potentially become a top 10 player if he puts it together- he has the weapons, he has the solid grounding now. But he had to work damn hard at it. Tomic on the other hand, while is getting decent results here and there in exhos - ie. Adelaide, Kooyong, isn't refining and improving his game to become a top 10. He doesn't have the tools yet to be up there.

I had high hopes for Tomic but I think he's being led into the wrong direction. He's leading a similar path to Donald Young IMO. He's still young though, plenty of time but Tomic isn't the only young guy out there whos doing well. Watch out for Ryan Harrison as well, good young American same age as Tomic who IMO looks more impressive at this stage.

Highlight of the open for me is Maria Kirilenko giving an andrei arshavin victory salute!

Highlight of the open for me is that Maria Kirilenko made it through to the second round.:):D

Is it fair to say Dokic lost the game almost purely because she sucked arse mentally? Ridiculous display from her, she looked negative from word go, and still was on the shits when she was only a break down on a not so good serve. Even when she broke back she just sprayed the service game and I really don't think she was thinking straight for most of the game. Her box never looked positive either, certainly not how they were last year. Maybe she needed to get more matches in last year not necessarily from a tennis side but a mental one.
Does anyone think the match shouldn't have been on RLA?
Maybe hisense or Margaret Court would've been better, not sure it necessarily would've made a difference to her acting like a two year old however...

Odds of WINNING 2nd rd match ???

Almost a certainty, as with knocking a seed out (Sharapova) she won't have to meet another seed until the 3rd round at least.

Will play Yvonne Meusnberger, ranked 114 with a high of 60, and then will most likely play Cibulkova, the 23rd seed.

Could even test Cibulkova.
