We know this new revelation is not about Bob Carr because we all know he sold out years ago, number one Panda Hugger. There's a few suspects on both sides parliament.

And all from NSW. We really have looked at Joh in QLD and decided he was a light-weight and we could do so much better.

Mind you, even in the 1970s we were bringing Mafia bosses here in return for massive bribes.

Both major parties and the Greens have candidates for this type of behaviour.

Why did nobody say anything when Keating was given a private AUKUS briefing?

Why was it not a scandal for Bob Carr to enter the senate after his extra curriculars with China were revealed?

Those events were free hits for Labor critics.

I should hope that Old Mate from ASIO is being hauled into the PM's office today to explain why he thought it was appropriate to throw this hand grenade into the public arena. There is simply no logical justification for it, other than trying to big note the work ASIO are doing (which it didn't).

And if it turns out to be an ex Labor pollie Albo will have tried to meddle and that will stain him.

He will get someone else to do it.

I dont care what it interferes with. If there is evidence of politicians committing treason we need to know.

Laws have been on the books for over 100 years. The idea that we have to have the 2018 laws is just dumb.

How dodgy are these Liberal campaigners?

Did you read the article ? They are all campaigners.

Mr Robb joins former foreign minister Bob Carr and former Victorian premier John Brumby in leaving lucrative roles with companies or, in Mr Carr’s case, a think tank, founded by businessmen with strong ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

Well, not exactly. If there is an ongoing investigation into a political figure (current or former) there is absolutely nothing to be gained by making that information public until such time that the investigation is concluded (I would argue that if the investigation didn't find sufficient evidence to support charges being laid then the details should never be made public in the interest of procedural fairness).

I call bullshit on that. I would be certain that the investigation found more than enough evidence but the ramifications of charges and a trial are not in the interests of the powers that be (be they Australian interests of foreign interests).

Agree both sides are as bad as each other. Still think it is a Liberal though.

Alex Turnbull, a businessman and son of former Liberal PM Malcolm Turnbull, , said that he believes he may have been the target of the approach referred to by Burgess.

Alex has confirmed he was approached by suspicious overseas operatives and that he passed on details of the approach to security agencies.

While declining to go into detail, he said that the family members of politicians needed better training about how to respond to suspicious approaches.

He told news.com.au the approach was “just so brazen”.

“My reaction was to express no interest and forward the details immediately to the authorities,” he said.

Based on a gut feel based on hating liberal ideas...

China has owned more Labor politicians so the odds lie there, however the Libs have someone who was friendly to China with no obvious monetary links which speaks to ideology.

Like the UK where most Soviet spies were strong socialists and not in it for the money.

I have no idea who it is but think that if there is enough evidence to speak out, surely the century old law should be tested. Regardless of their party.

Alex Turnbull loves to make things about Alex Turnbull. No surprise he is injecting himself into this.

Maybe he should name which ex politician approached him.

Err - he didn't say he was approached by an ex-politician.

I know. Kind of my point in the 1st part.

This is about which ex-polly's shilling for another country has breached our existing laws.

Id be amazed if hundreds of Australians arent approached every single year. Id also be amazed if we were also doing it ourselves to others overseas.

meaning that Alex may not be aware who the politician was, but thinks perhaps he was the family member mentioned in the story. Not an unreasonable take. Would be worried if Alex was getting cash for media appearances to say his story though (a dig at media morals)

I think Daddy keeps him financially safe.
