Vader has reliably informed us most coal generators will be gone within 10 years and as we know Labour are more than happy to expand our coal mining so it can exported overseas.

So could you please explain what benefits Dutton will get for his beloved coal??

When coal generation is phased out in Australia.
When Labour are opening up more coal mines.
Dutton coal benefits will be ..........
Coal generators are going to be phased out, but doubtful all will be gone within 10 years. Will depend on when replacement energy sources are available & also cost of keeping them open.

This is where it would be good to see a plan from both major parties as to how they intend to manage the transition.

Dutton wants less renewables than the ALP & with his National coal mates, no doubt would keep them open longer than the ALP..

Gas will be needed for sometime by both parties.

But neither party is giving us any details of their energy plan... more a rough sketch. Perhaps we will get more details heading into the next election

Well lets go forward 6 years to 2004, the Coalition had both the numbers in the Lower House and Senate to pass the legislation and what did they do? Zip, zero, nothing, donut.

It didn’t stop them using those numbers to bring in Workchoices. See sometimes you do what you want to do as a political party but they didn’t have the cahounas to do anything about nuclear.

Thanks for coming.
You know bloody well why ! The no nukes protest was in full forward .
It would have been political suicide, you could not drive to Port Augusta , we had to come back to Adelaide,
With roads were closed by uni students with no nukes Painted on sheets.
Useful idiots had years of brainwashing by alarmists.

I guess you weren’t around then , do some reading and most importantly.

Thanks for going

What make you think it will be different now?

Can you realistically see both houses of government signing off on Nuclear in federal & state governments?

I can't.

It’s all about timing Kane, if the election was to be held in the near future yes I do.

Is that vague enough for your question Kayno of which I am Moria it leading 😉

Needs to get through not just Federal government houses but also state ones too.

Don't reckon that is as straight forward.

Time will tell.

Failed attempt at humour Kane. I only came into this conversation to pull up misinformation from the Pragmatic Socialist party but the conversation takes a turn in another direction which I think you enjoy doing so meant to highlight by giving you the answer you were looking for .

Imho opinion we need to get Nuclear base load asap for our children’s and grandchildren’s sake, as to how we get it through is up to a Government with a clear mandate so ultimately up to the people .

But one thing is sure , we should already be there but for Labour which was my point any many in old Labour agree.

The Coalition might get a majority in the HOR but the ALP, Greens and Teals would vote against it. The Coalition are unlikely winning the election in a landslide so in all likelihood they could be in a minority government position from a best case scenario but getting a nuclear policy thru the HOR on that basis is well you do the numbers.

The ALP and Greens will in all likelihood have the balance of power in the Senate. David Pocock will get re-elected in the ACT together with the ALP senator and in the NT it will split one each to the Coalition and ALP. Zero chance of Coalition getting both senators in either Territories.

How so I hear you ask, the numbers - the Coalition have 18 senators up for re-election (and that includes one in the territories) and the ALP only 13 (and that includes two in the territories).

The Coalition have 3 senators up for re-election in QLD, NSW, SA and WA - they might get 3 in Qld and NSW but not likely in SA and WA. The ALP only have one senator up for re-election in ALP (the rest of the states two plus the two territories) and given quota required will probably end up with a second in Qld.

So the possibility of a nuclear policy getting up in the next term of government is unlikely.

Sorry you spent so much time,
it was a comedic cryptic nudge with Kane
Who’s posting I enjoy . Think we all know where it is heading in the near term.

Oh and I’ve been around for a long time by way (not as long as Mutineer tho) and the Coalition government was concerned with a few protesters but had no issue with draconian workplace laws that impacted hundred and thousands more.

Good to know.

I was of the opinion decade or so ago that we should have strongly considered Nuclear.

The issue now is that I think the horse has bolted with the massive uptake in renewables, which will continue to increase.

I don't believe having 7 Nuclear energy plants will be compatible with renewables as not as adaptable as Gas to switch on or off.

However, if is determined we need a certain minimum baseload that can't be supplied by other sources, then perhaps it's a consideration for a couple of energy plants... but I suspect won't be needed with technological advances.

Bottom line is there should be a detailed plan around the transition from Coal.

Imo, between the implementation lead time, higher cost & many that fear Nuclear, i can't see it getting up.

Honestly with the way things are in the world at the moment with wars here and there, 25 % tariff threats, Taiwan, Syria,Ukraine,UK going to the pack, the Middle East it’s on a knife edge. As unpopular as my view is, with the amount of Australia’s emissions I would be saying to the world we will endeavour to get our Nuclear online asap but in the meantime will be burning as much coal, gas or bloody wood as we need to until we get there and keep developing renewables. I expect no support in this, just my opinion to secure the energy future for Australia asap .Heavy industry will always need better than what renewables can provide
but can certainly see the day when every house can be powered by panels, window film and paint all charging much smaller
battery banks.

What upsets me is since installation of my smart meter is when I see my batteries being drawn upon every night @ 2 cents per kWh tarrliff and the next day if it’s cloudy and I want to use a lot of power I’m buying back @47 cents but all is good because they remind me I have planted 4000 trees and saved 350,000 kegs of carbon or something.😉

Sincerely merry Xmas.

Right turn Clyde

There goes the conversation again.
When you have nowhere to go reach into the Pragmatic Socialist ( code for communist) kit bag for a diversion. Is that the Socialist or Pragmatic stance of your self described Persona.

I suspect socialist but in a realistic way.

You should never have run with that one
ol mate. 😀

Merry Xmas

Disconnect your batteries from the grid and use them yourself on cloudy days. The 2c is a joke and might as well be zero.

The batteries are used first then base load. To be totally transparent the amount drawn only seems to be 1 kw of my 13.6 kw each night but to me it is the fact Some poor bugger is buying it back @ 50 odd cents. It is handy when power is down as we live in high bushfire area to have about 6 hours power. A decent home brew session costs me about 20 kw but Kayno
would be quaffing a nice 389 Baby Grange
In air conditioned comfort .😉

Was that yesterday.

Is today , bloody trees 😉

Opportunity taken.

We live in Gods country and hate to see
the division in Australians nowadays.
Just had a re read of my posts today in case I had cause to apologise for a comment but I believe not.
Just a passionate Aussie wanting the best for all of us.
The good thing about a German side to the family is a Christmas Eve lunch in the Barossa, hope I wasn’t too loose.

Kayno, 2002 St Hugo Magnum today, impeccably stored left the home brew at home . 😉

No need to apologise to me as nothing in your posting that upset me. :)

Yes, we are spoilt, particularly considering the craziness going on in other parts of the world.

Enjoy the St Hugo, though hopefully you will be inside where it will be a bit cooler.

Reckon I will go the whites tomorrow & big reds Boxing Day with better half's slow cooked Xmas Ham leftovers & ribs catch up with friends.

Careful Kano I got days off for using the LOL emoji but you being a lefty they probably won't be as stringent with you...
You reckon my laughing at your posts is worse than your constant thumbsdown... for which you are renowned for...

Surely you dont think it's ok for you to react (more regularly!!!l) to my posts & i cant react to yours.

Some of your thumbs down are just because I posted & nothing to do with the content. Eg. Disagreeing the government should detail their energy strategy... thumbs down from Bicks!

Any ways, it's hard to take your Nuclear views seriously. ;)

Merry Christmas Bicks.
