Good work if you can get it!!!

And that's not because Shorten is a former ALP/Union person, how is that position worth that kind of money, and the biggest joke is he's taking a paycut over money paid to the former Vice Chancellor who was on an eye-watering $1.8 Million. package in 2023. It's a joke that he will be on substantially better package than the Prime Minister of Australia. No wonder Bill jumped out of Parliament where his coveted position of Austalian Prime Minister was but a forlorn memory for him.

‘Obscene’: Bill Shorten’s new salary at University of Canberra revealed

Aussies have reacted after Bill Shorten’s staggering new salary – more than double his base salary as a cabinet minister – was revealed.

Bill Shorten will pocket $860,000-a-year in his new role as vice-chancellor of the University of Canberra – more than double his base salary as a cabinet minister of $403,063.
The former Labor opposition leader – who led the party to the 2016 and 2019 elections – announced his retirement from federal politics in September to take up the post.
On Tuesday, University of Canberra (UC) chancellor Lisa Paul shared Mr Shorten’s near-million dollar salary, but stressed it was less than that of his predecessor, Professor Paddy Nixon, whose package in 2023 was $1.8 million.
“When finalising Mr Bill Shorten’s pay conditions we mutually agreed following his initiative that his total remuneration package including superannuation, accommodation and fringe benefits tax will be $860,000, down by approximately 15 per cent of the former vice-chancellor’s pay in 2022,” Ms Paul said.
Mr Shorten’s new income outraged some Australians – with social media users questioning how he could earn “much more than that of the Prime Minister” as vice-chancellor of “a middle-sized regional uni”.

“These obscene salaries for uni VCs must be pulled down to earth,” one man wrote on X.

“Our top uni executives must be focused (on) education, not personal profit.”

Australia’s vice-chancellors are famously among the highest-paid in the world.

The Queensland University of Technology’s (QUT) vice-chancellor Margaret Sheil took home $1,234,000 in 2023, the University of Sydney’s Mark Scott $1,184,999, and the Australian National University’s (ANU) Genevieve Bell $1.1 million.

In comparison, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese receives a base salary of roughly $607,500 and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton $432,000.

That's less money than most VCs, and as the head of a university, it can be argued that the position is worth that sort of money. The main problem, as recent events have shown, is that the VCs are not doing a very good job of running their universities and earning that money, but that's another story.

The ludicrous and glaring issue with Shorten's appointment is that he has absolutely no qualifications justifying such a position. It's a disgraceful appointment, but that's not unexpected from the University of Canberra, which, as a Dawkins "university", doesn't really justify the title. Political appointments such as this should be reserved for Chancellors, the ribbon-cutting, gold-spade digging, powerless positions.

If you think of the AFC analogue, then Shorten is Silvers, when he really should be Olsen (or nothing at all).

Nobody here thinks what those parents did was okay, if that’s the absurd angle you’re going for.

That's their mentality though, they equate being dubious/apprehensive about a mandated vaccine that wasn't subjected to the normal trails/tests the same as religious crackpots that didn't seek medical treatment for their kid.

We even had Henny Penny and Vader strongly expressing the view that the Covid vaccines would take a minimum of 5 years to get through all the tests and trials before it was released to the public, yet less than 10 months later they both supported the mandate. Go figure.

Edit: To be fair Vader wasn't at all happy about the AZ vaccine, I think he described it as muck

Edit: Oh no, did that make Vader anti-vaccine? A cooker?

Well they do often go together. They believe in fantasy and faith rather than science.
There's a big difference.

In this case, there's no evidence to suggest that they didn't believe in the medicine's effectiveness (at least from my limited reading of the case). They knew it was effective, they just chose not to use it on the basis of their religious beliefs.

Someone who falls for misinformation might believe that the medicine is less effective than it really is, or that it has side effects which are either non-existent or vastly overstated compared to the reality. Our resident cookers and their monumentally stupid positions on the COVID vaccines represent examples of this.

As far as I'm aware, what they did was fantasy/faith despite knowing & understanding the effectiveness of the science. That's why they were charged with manslaughter.

None of this is a defence of RFK Jnr, who is an absolute cooker, and would be an unmitigated disaster for the USA should the Senate ratify his appointment.

To be fair, no vaccine had ever been developed and/or approved as rapidly as the COVID vaccines. Not coincidentally, no other disease had ever had so many resources applied to the development of said vaccines before.

Those comments were always discussing AZ relative to Pfizer. AZ had a lower effectiveness and more side effects than Pfizer, and has subsequently been withdrawn - while the Pfizer vaccine remains (and is regularly updated as new versions of the virus emerge).

AZ was a poor substitute for Pfizer, but it was still better than not being vaccinated at all, and that was always my position.

I stand by those comments, and I believe that history has vindicated my position.

He says people who had concerns about the Covid vaccines were “stupid” and then in the next breath he says his concerns about the AZ vaccine make him very smart and vindicated.

Just get your head around that for a moment.

This is not the Australia I want see...Keep your *ing middle eastern Politics out of Australia or * off back to where you came from you cretins.

Caravan of explosives set for Jewish synagogue attack found in Sydney – as NSW Police launch major investigation

A caravan laden with explosives and a note with the address of a Sydney synagogue has been found in the city’s northwest, with more than 100 police officers deployed to work on a counter-terrorism investigation into the incident.

Do we actually know that it was individuals of middle eastern appearance?

The reason is there was a report was it was possibly a far right extremist. The person who owns the caravan was already in police custody I believe.

Huh

Nice try but no cigar..

I see someone called Scott Marshall has been named as a suspect but nowhere does it say he was a far right extrmist that I can find, sounds more like deadset nutcase if he's the one. Are you really trying to say all these protestors are not of middle eastern appearance wearing the keffiyeh and flying terrorist flags and chanting from the river to the sea are far right extremists ?

Dutton getting in front of the media and playing politics with anti semitism at every opportunity. Would have expected him to come out strong against the neo nazi's in Adelaide. Nothing.

He even puts greens ahead of neo nazi's when talking about anti Semites.
As he should given Penny Wong and the ALP's dismal actions especially on Israel on the International front.

A statement released by ASIO Chief Mike Burgess.

ASIO is monitoring and, in conjunction with our law enforcement partners, investigating multiple anti-Semitic incidents in Australia.

We have seen a disturbing escalation in the targeting of Jewish interests, and a disturbing escalation in the severity and recklessness of the targeting, with general harassment and intimidation moving to the targeting of people and places.

These incidents are appalling, and particularly distressing for the Jewish community.

While ASIO keeps the national terrorism threat level under constant review, I do not anticipate changing the threat level from PROBABLE in the immediate future.

One of the key reasons we raised the threat level in August 2024 was because we anticipated spikes in politically motivated violence. Unfortunately, the security environment has evolved almost exactly as we expected. As I said at that time: “As polarisation, frustration and perceived injustices grow, ASIO anticipates an increase in politically motivated violence – including terrorism – across all ideological spectrums.”

PROBABLE means probable – we assess there is a greater than 50 per cent chance of a domestic terrorist attack or attack planning in the next 12 months.

The current terrorism threat level is the same as it was at the height of the Islamic State caliphate.

While the caravan matter in New South Wales remains under police investigation, ASIO does not believe there is an ongoing threat to public safety.

I understand how distressing these incidents are, and want to assure members of the community ASIO is using the full range of its capabilities to assist multiple police investigations, including through the well-established structures of Joint Counter Terrorism Teams around the country.

I urge anyone with concerns about potential terrorist activity to contact the National Security Hotline on 1800 123 400 or hotline@nationalsecurity.gov.au. In an emergency, call 000.

I don't know how close you follow Politics but t Bandt and the Greens have been very vocal against Israel a democratic country, and you seem to forget Hezbollah are identified by Australia as a terrorist organisation

Police are still looking for help from the public in their investigation, particularly from anyone who saw the caravan parked 'in a hazardous position' by the side of Derriwong Road, Dural, between December 7 and January 19.

Police are yet to confirm if the plot is linked to Islamic terrorists, far-right extremists or any other group, local or foreign.

'We don't have any particular ideology in relation to what's causing this or any common links between certain ideologies, but nothing's excluded at this stage,' Dep Comm Hudson said.

'We pursue everything until we get to the truth, and we will do that.

'That caravan contained an amount of explosives and some indication that those explosives might be used in some form of anti-Semitic attack.

'We're taking this seriously and all lines of inquiry are being pursued, but I want to stress we do not believe there is an ongoing threat from this discovery.'

Give me some answers that aren't just copy paste of some right won't politician on sky news. Give us some Bicks views on how Penny Wong is an anti Semite.

Like how you deviated from Dutton not publicly berating Australian neo nazis BTW.
Like I said I refuse to believe you don't know the answer to that, I'll give you a hint though United Nations.

And Dutton did berate both the Greens and all extremists per se, check out the channel 7 news without your blinkers on.

th
As he should given Penny Wong and the ALP's dismal actions especially on Israel on the International front.

There were only 7 or so nations who voted against those United Nations resolutions - we were with Canada, NZ, UK and European countries.

Dutton was with the US, Israel and a few smaller nations. So basically out of whack with the rest of the world.

He just disagrees with everything the government does. Voted against COL, amending tax cuts etc.

Well until we know the full story, there is no indication that they may be of middle eastern appearance like you jumped on - saying “**** off to where you came from you cretins”.

Who knows perhaps they originally came from Bankstown? 🤪🤪🤪

You won't get an answer out of Bicks.

Most of the world support a 2 state solution apart from Israel, USA & handful of other countries.

Bicks like Dutton believes supporting 2 states - 1 of which is Israel - is anti-Jewish. How dare Australia support both sides & not take a side.

The only chance of peace is a 2 state solution... but unfortunately some would prefer the complete obliteration of Palestinians...
