Do you think he is in touch with the younger crowd?

Honestly think it's a slow news day.

Australia is a multicultural country & we celebrate different cultures & their flags.

Its an important part of who we are.

If we were allowing terrorist flags like ISIS, then that would be a completely different matter.
How many young Australians today do you think would rush to enlist if Australia was to come under serious threat from say China etc, how many would try to fudge their age like the young people did when World War 2 started? I very much doubt today's youth have the ingrained patriotism of those times.

A lot of the young people that rush into useless university degrees should look to enlist in the many and varied careers it can lead to after theur time in the defence forces, some great career pathways. And the discipline and having your mates back that is part and parcel of the defence forces wouldn't go astray as they venture through life either.

What has this to do with flags Bicks?

I acknowledged there is a recruitment issue for the ADF, but that has nothing to do with different communities displaying flags.

Was mentioned this week by an ex-senior ADF official that the recruitment strategy is wrong. That would appear to be a more relevant issue for recruitment would you no think? Advertising Guru agrees.

Also, their lengthy process is problematic.

And not before time, kudos to Mark Butler for listening to people's concerns.....

Australian government announces inquiry into puberty blockers, treatment of children with gender dysphoria

The federal government has announced it will hold an inquiry into the safety of puberty blockers and treatment for children who want to change genders.

The safety and effectiveness of puberty blockers for treating children with gender dysphoria will be investigated as part of a landmark review, the Federal Government has announced.
Health Minister Mark Butler said a medical inquiry will study the use of puberty blockers and report back with interim advice by the middle of next year.
The review will also see Australia’s peak medical body, the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) develop national guidelines, in place of state guidelines, on the best way to treat children who want to change gender.
Prescribing puberty blockers for children has become an increasingly controversial issue following a UK review by Dr Hilary Cass, who described them in her final report as “powerful drugs with unproven benefits and significant risks”.
In December the UK’s Labour government banned the use of puberty blockers for under-18s with gender dysphoria, except for use in clinical trials, following advice from medical experts. US President Donald Trump signed an executive order restricting gender transitions for anyone younger than 19.

This week former prime minister Tony Abbott was among more than 100 public figures to sign an open letter demanding the government hold an urgent national inquiry into gender treatments for children.

The letter called for a pause on all medical gender transitions for children and young people until an independent Australian inquiry was complete.

“This is a potential public health disaster of generational significance demanding an independent public inquiry,” the letter said. The Queensland LNP government paused hormone treatments for new patients under 18 on Tuesday after claims children as young as 12 were being prescribed puberty blockers without proper medical support or parental consent.

Interesting that commercial batteries are making significant money by charging up during the day when prices are low & selling in the evening when prices are high. Would expect this will only see a bigger uptake in battery storage...

Yeah turn off the coal powered plants in NSW, Qld and Victoria in the evening and turn off the interconnector while they're at it, what a misleading article. But then just playing up to their audience I guess.

Because using battery power is cheaper than firing up coal power plant on a needs basis.

Battery power is only going to increase as the less reliable coal power is phased out.

Interesting wind in SA contributing a measly 98Mw currently

SA 12.45 PM Nem time Generation 2009MW, Demand 2289MW
Geez, I thought wind blew all the time.

It's like we have learnt something new...

It's like you reminding us that there is no solar generation at night.

But you get upset when I say you are anti-renewables.

I don't recall you pointing out when there is another coal power station failure...

One of these appears to have far more potential than the other to reduce CO2...

Nah, shame they can't harness all the Kano hot air that you blow off on this thread....that would power a city all by itself...;) Note I've stolen the Kano winking emoji that you use profusely...

Unlike you, I don't throw a tantrum when receiving emojis. ;)

Bick, anyone with a brain understands there are different wind conditions every day & the sun only generates solar during the day.

You treat the board like idiots by continually reminding us about this.

Fortunately energy needs don't rely on what is occurring at one point in time, but over the whole journey.

Looking forward to you pointing out when the next coal power station has failed as apparently you are not anti-renewables... lol as if!

So which Dutton do we believe?

Appears the new Dutton wants a more positive relationship with China, unlike the old Dutton or ScoMo.

Easier to maintain now that Wong has repaired the relationship & trading has pretty much returned to normal.

So no plans to copy Trump & ban tiktok?

Premier Peter Malinauskas says new technology might make nuclear power economic

Premier Peter Malinauskas says technology change might make nuclear power economical for Australia.
Premier Peter Malinauskas has left the door ajar on nuclear power, saying technology change might make it economical for Australia in the future.
Speaking at an Adelaide business lunch on Friday, Mr Malinauskas said he was “all for” nuclear energy if power prices became cheaper in South Australia – but carpeted Coalition policy to put a reactor in Port Augusta as “insanely expensive”.

Mr Malinauskas urged debate only on economic terms, saying nuclear energy’s safety was “well-established” and should not be blocked “just because there’s a few lefties who are going to be opposed to it for old-school, nostalgic reasons”.

In wide-ranging comments about energy, Mr Malinauskas also said gas was “mission-critical” to back up renewables and lashed “diabolical” federal planning laws that he branded too time-consuming.

“I welcome discussion and debate and I think it’s an analysis that should be ongoing, because, maybe in the future, at some point, the economics of nuclear will change as the technology evolves,” he said.

“The (Peter) Dutton (Coalition) policy is to put a small modular reactor in Port Augusta. If that makes power cheaper in South Australia, I’m all for it.

The original article you quoted was dated 2014 not 2024!

And I note Peter said “might” - a possibility however remote.

Did you have your reading glasses on when you posted an article from February 21, 2014?

Are you one of Mali's "there's a few lefties who are going to be opposed to it for old-school, nostalgic reasons
Reckon Mali's got you pegged there..

Bicks, here you go an article from SkyNews so you should find it credible.

Given the breakdown of coal power stations in Queensland & NSW, they experienced much higher electricity prices than the likes of SA & Victoria where we live, because we have higher renewables.

LOL

And I wonder why the power companies stopped maintaining their coal power plants hey...

Well I can always talk to Peter, see him at Next Gen gym first thing most mornings.

Who do you get to talk to? Sheep, cows, pigs or perhaps have an interesting conversation with a grain paddock.

Ooooh that really hurts....but to be expected from you unfortunately.

LOL

Because they are old & unviable & less reliable... but you hold on desperately to your coal Bicks even though likely to be completely phased out in your lifetime.

Because it will cost them $$$$$ to replace and they see where the future is going in the developed world.
The big energy companies are investing in renewables instead of coal because they know it's the future.
