Upgrade Albo at it again...Do as I say not what I do....Votes is all that counts and to hell with Infrastructure Australia's assessment that the project had a negative net present value of minus $303 Million.....who cares it's only taxpayers money and more interest on overseas borrowings to add to the massive debt, nothing to see here. Noting of course Infrastructure Australia was set up by then ALP Infrastructure Minister Albanese in 2008.

PM ignored independent adviser on Queensland road spend

This looks more driven by the lack of ALP seats in Queensland.

Not a good look when your own words come back to bite you...

Public are fed up with governments spending where primarily driven by winning particular electorates.

Some more reality for the renewables fanbois, again by well qualified experts in the field not opinions by a billionaire renewables investors like Simon Holmes a Court with a whole lot of $$$$$$ their only agenda.

$300b bill: Cost of renewable energy revealed
The cost of solar, wind, batteries, hydro and gas assets will be about 30 per cent more expensive than the current system, new research suggests. See why.

Exclusive: Wholesale electricity prices are about 30 per cent more expensive in a system mainly reliant on intermittent renewables versus power from the existing coal-dominated system, according to new modelling by a leading academic who also runs a government-owned energy business.

The research by Paul Simshauser of Queensland’s Griffith University suggests the cost of solar, wind, batteries, hydro and gas assets needed to get close to net zero will be about $300 billion in today’s dollars compared to the current system’s worth of $136bn.

The price of wholesale electricity from a market dominated by mostly green sources would be more than $130 a megawatt hour. The present cost is about $100/Mwh, the researchers say.

It’s understood their comparison removes factors such as inflation, although Mr Simshauser, who is also CEO of the Queensland government’s transmission network business Powerlink, declined to comment. Messrs Simshauser and Gilmore write: “One issue which does present as problematic is flexible firming capacity.”

To cover sun and wind droughts, at least 35GW of additional hydro and gas-fired power is needed, compared to the current level of 20GW.

“The national electricity market (NEM) cannot rely on short duration batteries alone,” they write.

The analysts conclude by saying European and North American readers of their work may find the general lack of support for gas in Australia to be “odd.”

“Natural gas and GTs (gas turbine plants) are widely accepted as crucial to the energy transition in those jurisdictions. Thus far, not so in Australia. Gas and GTs have proved almost divisive and remain excluded from many (but not all) government-initiated … schemes in the NEM.”

You do get it that these all go thru LNP electorates with large margins (most over 10%). This isn’t going to win the ALP many votes so even then you find a negative slant - all but one of the electorates has a margin greater than 6%, hardly marginal. So has usual go off half-cocked!

And don’t get started with wasting money - you want a list of failures by the Coalition on infrastructure projects?

Well for starters Snowy Hydro 2.0., no difference who instigated it (Turnbull), it was the Coalition that started it. How is that going $$$$ wise?

And how did they go with the 64 commuter car parks in certain electorates (which were primarily Liberal ones surprisingly).

Where are you grim Jim Chalmers?
Away with the fairies again?

Inflation rises above forecast

Inflation has risen above forecast to 2.3 per cent in a fresh blow for interest rate cut hopes.

So funny - the mean has come down to 3.2%. The Reserve Bank looks at the mean trim measure and their is now a 70% chance rate cute in February.

You are literally clueless.

Still to the land and not economics/finances.

Not at all Kane, this isn’t about winning Qld seats given most of those where Bruce Highway is have margins of 10% or more - hardly going to change.

The Bruce Highway had 41 killed last year and already 2 this year, it needs to be fixed and it covers 1700kms.

What utter tripe, it's all about the upcoming electuon and Queensland votes and you know it what's more. Just more of your look over there crap when almost any fair minded person has to say this Albanese/ALP Government's term has been a massive disappointment even to ALP voters.

More of grim Jim Chalmers and mean girl Katy Gallagher's handiwork...can this mob get anything right...

Poor old grim Jim Chalmers clearly in way way way over his depth as treasurer, maybe he's after Tim Pallas's record as the worst treasurer Australia has ever seen.

Who cares it's only taxpayers money and they'll be coming hard at us with more tax hikes if elected no doubt,

Then why wasn't it prioritised through the transport committee?

Not a great look when politicians reprioritise.

Both sides do it... promise not to... then do it any way.

No doubt there will be benefits saving lives too.

You expect 10% swings in Qld seats?

Give me a Qld seat that will change hands based on this announcement.

Just one.

You're self awareness is unbelievable, maybe you had better go do a revision of your posting history methinks. You're the one that needs anger management not me.

Todays "Tiser opinion.

ALBO, END THE BLAME GAME ONHOUSING

Bureau of Statistics data released this week should ring alarm bells for the federal government. It showed that Australia is well behind in efforts to tackle the crippling national housing crisis. In 2024, just 164,749 homes were approved for construction nationally. That figure is about 75,000 short of the 240,000 new homes that will need to be built annually to reach the National Housing Accord goal of 1.2million new homes by mid-2029.Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has again blamed the Greens for delaying home construction by stalling legislation. But it is the government’s job to come up with a viable solution for this crisis. Both renters and buyers are in desperate need of relief. The situation is as acute as anywhere in Adelaide, where rents rose by 7.4 per cent in 2024, second only to Perth. The time for empty Labor promises and blame-shifting is over

As usual when challenged, you sulk and don’t bother.

Only asked for one seat that could change hands for those the Bruce Highway goes, come on just one.

How's Bowen and Albo's 82% renewables by 2030 looking?

How's that ALP promise of cutting power bills by $275 by 2025 looking? :poo::poo::poo:

Don't bother answering or you'll look more foolish than you already lefties.

Power price surge adds to ‘headwinds’ for energy bills

Power price surge adds to ‘headwinds’ for energy bills

The jump in prices in the December quarter came despite soaring rooftop solar generation, which was 19 per cent higher than a year earlier, according to the UNSW data. Coal generation fell, including a 9.2 per cent drop in brown coal power.

But in worrying news for emissions reductions, coal power generation rose on an annual basis, by more than 2 terawatt-hours from 2023, marking the first annual increase in coal generation for 10 years, Mr McConnell said.

The percentage contribution of renewable energy barely budged, reaching 38.9 per cent in 2024 across the National Electricity Market, up from 38.6 per cent in 2023. Australia has a target to reach 82 per cent renewables by 2030.

Mr McConnell said 2024 had the smallest annual increase in total renewables generation for many years, of 4.9 terawatt-hours, about half the previous year’s growth. Some large new wind farms that came online toward the end of the year have yet to flow through to the figures, he noted.

As I only posted last week Bicks, Australia has doubled the proportion of renewables to 40% over the past 6 years. Quite an achievement with a lack of commonwealth government direction, particularly during the coalition decade.

With improving technology, fair chance Australia will double the renewables again in another 6 years... though clearly be a quicker rate without Dutton trying to disrupt investment.

You need to lay off the Dutton Derangement Syndrome lefty...or should I say Mr Centrist?

You're really not even trying to hide your colours anymore...

I have never hidden my dislike of the conservative arm of the coalition & being a fan of the moderates.

Feel free to point out the missing coalition energy strategy for the best part of a decade & the main reason why we are in this mess with transition from coal without proper planning.

And you need to layoff the ADS as well.

It is 2024, not yet 2030.

Did you read the last paragraph?

So predictable.

PS : and zero chance of nuclear happening.

Yeah how convenient no reference to the promise of cheaper electricity prices for Australian households of $275 annually by 2025...As promised by Albanese at a presser on December 3 2021 in the run up to the election.

I've got news for ya bud today is the 9th of January 2025 and instead electricity prices continue to spiral...

Yeh bad call by him. Will it cost him the election? We shall see.

Will nuclear in 15-20 years help? Nup.

Well my electricity bills are cheaper tho - having solar does help I suppose.
