Oh wow...the FIA actually have some balls, and have handed HAM a 3 place grid penalty

Except because of Kmag it's only 2... the rules are weird. It should be automatically 3 irrespective of what happened behind him UNLESS all cars were penalised. Same as they should have a rule to advance someone who was blocked (Kvyat) to the next round when it was obvious he was on a great lap.

This is the first opportunity for Bottas to make Hamilton pay for any error that he makes. We don't know how the race will pan out, but the he's still a big chance for the win. If he wins and Hamilton gets 4th, that's a 13pt chunk taken out of the title lead. Still a comfortable margin for Hamilton. But it says that he can't **** up anywhere throughout the season or it'll cost him. It'll also generate huge brownie points is Bottas can work his way to a win when MB perhaps aren't expecting to.

As far as Riccardo goes, this qualifying highlights my point from last week. If he/Renault lose out from their "normal position", they'll lose a lot. If they get a better than expected result, they won't gain much if at all. If you think last week is done and it doesn't matter for what happens tonight? Then consider that he's likely to be overhauled in the points tonight by Norris and Magnussen, and fall back as low as 11th. He made it an easier task for them to get him this week. Any gain he makes on Sainz for 7th is likely to be minimal.

I remember davis saying last week that MB and Ferrari won't give a shit who finishes 7th. I'll tell you what? They'll give a shit if Ricciardo doesn't. Sometimes it's not about what you bring do. It's about not giving anyone an opportunity to point fingers and criticise. Ricciardo has been allowing just that.

Ferrari and Merc had the option to bring him in last year and both chose not to, Red Bull had leaned towards favouring Max particularly post Baku.

You seem to be under this false illusion that good performances will get him a drive in the top 2 teams, he won 2 of the first 6 races last year when he was in the 3rd best car and they had openings and they both looked elsewhere. Renault is it for Daniel, this is Webber leaving Williams for Red Bull if Renault fails and don't rise up to win races then that is it for Daniel his career will be finished.

You keep banging on about 7th place finishes like they mean something, even if Dan wins a race this year he won't be getting a drive for Ferrari or Merc or Red Bull ever again, its Renault or broke.

You can say that as well. But the bottom line doesn't give a shit. Even if that's the case. If Norris and Magnussen have good races (If Norris has an average race), Ricciardo faces the prospect of falling behind them in the standings to 11th! That is even if he has a good race tonight Then what is anyone going to say?

Between Australia, Azerbaijan and France, Ricciardo has cost himself 9-12pts conservatively. With those points, he'd be either just behind or ahead of Sainz. With the prospect of Sainz unlikely to score points. This could've been the opportunity to get ahead or extend the lead. Everything counts, and he hasn't made the best of it so far.

Does anyone follow why Lewis only went back to P4

Like most things in F1, it doesn’t make sense.
Until the FIA decide to justify their rulings with a long, complicated explanation.
Why can’t they just be like the AFL and say “we defend our decision and won’t give you the inner workings of how we arrived at that decision”.
Much easier.......

I just don't get the empty grid space.

When drivers like Verstappen are admitting that they rock up to a weekend like this race knowing that they have no chance of a win.... you know the “sport” is ****ed

Could we actually be in for a decent race tonight ?

Haha we would think so, but expect LEC to burn through his softs early, Ferrari to **** him over with strategy, BOT to shit the bed, VER to cop some car issues and HAM to waltz into a win, and then proceed to tell us how hard it was, how it’s the best crowd he has ever seen, and how #blessed he is

Edit: my bad, I’m missing a “Get in there Lewis”
