Could be a Spa scenario where we get a few laps behind the safety to trigger a 50% points result.

So really just depends on what the grid looks like and if we get qualifying in.

Like Japan, do we need to look at whether this is the best time of year to Race in Brazil ?

It is just a beautiful circuit though isn’t it? The cars just roll through there, so yes

An aussie commentary team would be just as bad as the Sky lot.

What you need to find are commentators that have no driver allegiance or conflict of interest. Unfortunately that rules out most Brittish journalists, which really only leaves you with Americans in terms of natural english speakers.

Definitely not listening to Americans.

If it's only being broadcast to us Aussies I'd be fine with it. The fact that Sky are biased isn't the issue, it's that we are being forced to hear it as non British viewers.

A totally neutral feed would be great but probably isn't realistic.

IMHO it's all about the professionalism and motivations of the commentary team.

Being biased towards British drivers was definitely NOT the case when Murray Walker and James Hunt was commentating or when Martin Brundle teamed up with Walker. Because they were professionals who cared about the sport of F1 and not what bloody country a driver was born in.

If a driver was shite then James Hunt would call him out regardless of what accent he had. His nick names for crappy drivers were legendary (and totally disrespectful of course in a way that wouldn't be regarded as acceptable in 2024).

This pro British bias has evolved over time as Sky has played a more dominant role in the sport and has reached plague proportions with the recruitment of the likes of Croft, Chandhok et al and as Brundle has taken a step back from attending every race.

There's another UK commentary team out there by the way that in my view is far more balanced and less shouty than the Sky mob. But we will never get to see them here (apart from guest appearances on Ten during the Australian GP) because the F1 broadcasts in Australia have been purchased by Sky's sister organisation Foxtel.

And sadly there just isn't the viewer interest in Australia to justify an Australian broadcaster stumping up the cost to broadcast a Sky competitors F1 feed - especially as more races are taking place in venues with time zones way out of synch with Australia.

Nope, Aussie F1 fans are stuck with the appalling Sky broadcast for the time being I'm afraid unless the global Fox/Sky empire is broken up and sold by his kids on Rupert Murdoch's death.

Heaven help us all when Brundle finally walks away in the meantime.

Foxtel aren’t making money.
So no go on spending for a dedicated comm team for a program that is largely broadcast outside of peak rating period.

Those guys were lucky they had one job. Commentate on what was happening in front of them.
Now the comm team have to create “content”. Not just while the weekend is on, but while there is nothing much happening.
I’m not overly happy with the comm team, apart from Martin and Bernie, but I do understand that they are employed by a British company, broadcasting mainly to a British audience. In a society that expects much, much more than just a voiceover on race day.
Complaining about them achieves nothing.

Not sure if you have a full understanding of the history of F1 coverage but Walker and Brundle were involved in covering the full weekend and BBC and ITV provided decent coverage of the weekend when they were involved.

And last time I looked BBC and ITV were/are British organisations too. And Channel 4 currently has terrestrial rights for F1 broadcasts in the UK.

The problem is Sky and the current commentary team. And that's the team we get to see/hear via Foxtel.

Complaining about them achieves nothing.

It makes me and others who hate what is being dished up feel better so there's that. :p

But seriously, criticising the quality and bias of the Sky F1 coverage WILL help make changes happening, especially if its coming from Sky viewers themselves and F1 drivers and teams. F1 broadcast rights are controlled by the owners of the sport even more tightly than they were under Bernie Ecclestone. AS the criticism of Sky UK gets louder they will be heard by Liberty, especially if that criticism comes from the teams and their sponsors. That's why Max's comment about UK press being absent was so fantastic imho - this is a global sport ffs.

But apart from all that, sports journalism is like any other form of journalism in that it should not be immune to legitimate criticism from the people who consume it and pay for it via subscriptions and advertising etc.

And my comment about Rupert Murdoch falling off his perch and what that means in terms of pay TV in Australia is real. I have no doubt that Foxtel will be sold off by Lachlan Murdoch as part of restructuring if he wins control of the company from his siblings when Rupert dies. But that is the subject of a bitter dispute in a Reno Nevada probate trial currently underway.

My views. YMMV.

I still think its fairly egregious that Croft and Chandhok were openly supporting the decision to leave a car in the barriers under double waved yellows and the delayed red flag so people could finish their quali laps.

We just passed the 10 year anniversary of Jules Bianchi's crash ffs, which was the result of leaving a car (and truck) on track under double waved yellows.

But nobody was near the car or any recovery vehicles, they had all passed the incident.

They don’t have to deal with social media though.

And that’s exactly why we have red flags now.
Simply isn’t worth the risk.

I advocate for Daniel to replace Brundle on the grid walks, at least people will want to talk to him and will be entertaining with his goofy people person personality.

So a big footy Aussie fanboy feed.

What’s the difference to sky except the flavours?
