Autopsy Autopsy vs St Kilda - the Cam Zurhaar Almost Special

I am beginning to think that Gasometer, Dan, goalieboy82 and even Twinkletoes or myself starting game day threads might not be the sole cause of North losing games. It's a big contributor, and none of us should ever be allowed to start a game day thread ever again, but it's not just our poor performances as thread starters.

You see' I have a confession. I posted the bloody "It's Happening" GIF in a thread during the week and I think that might be a factor.

We didn't kick a goal in the 1st half.....
Yet we were more competitive than last week.

Yes we didn’t kick a goal, but it wasn’t through lack of opportunity, it was down to not being polished and taking the opportunity.

Last week we were monstered out of the contest and not even competitive.

Saw Goater in the Prem Club today... Holy s**t he's skinny! I'm a fan but geeze he's got some weight to put on before he's a legit AFL player.
Unrelated but kind of related, I saw Wardlaw waking around level 2 wearing shorts and his legs were almost luminescent. I actually thought he was wearing snow white Skins at first

Well, we didn't play complete dogshit, that was a positive... but our ability to put enough real pressure to to take the ball from the opposition is well below par, 47 vs 76 tackles and they had 109 marks. They have a worse list than us but they have a bunch of solid mature players who are playing a functional defensive structure and have players in form.

Cunners has been one of my all time favourites but time waits for no one.

Runs straight backed like an old man now more than ever and to me seems to lack a bit of power to push opponents off now.

I think he will realise himself and step away before seasons end.

But what a player and bloke he is.

I will cry blue and white tears when he does pull that pin.

Will love that man forever.

LOL Goater and Wardlaw were interviewed in social club before game. I honestly dont know how Wardlaw even walks with two tree trunks to stand on. A couple of pre seasons and he will be one scary man.

Goater as a supporter, loves the joint, wants it bad.

As for the game, first time in ages I feel like I actually went to the footy, as in sense of contest. Even the Eagles game we stopped to a walk and fell in against a sh!tful team. Today was weirdly what I expected to see this year. Show something but just not there

So much better with some guys that can actually run out of the back half.

Perez was pretty crap with his ball use, but at least provided some rebound and presented as an option.

Love Bergman in that side. Has wheels, can kick it and doesn’t shirk it when it’s his turn to go.

We can only get better when we start seeing more guys like Wardlaw and Goater filtering back through the side.

Sounds like Boomer Jnr had a good game in the VFL as well.

I think once we start transitioning more of these kids through the side we will see the real growth. It might be hard at the start, but getting games into these young guys should be the focus now.
I think we know that we have a better young brigade compared to the senior options because:
  1. They've had a system ingrained into them that doesn't extend beyond zoning, corridor use and flicking the ball around to open up the play.
  2. Simply not good enough and don't have the traits to make it.
We're in this weird patch where our young guys are leading the way with our absolute best senior types (McKay, Goldy, Cam, Larkey etc.). I can already tell based on the changes made every week how the side will look after a few years.

Mahony's game today >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Turner (the experiment to re-evaluate is over)

Also did anyone notice we used Mahony on the wings and around the flanks? Barely saw him inside forward 50.

It was comical at times and painful to watch. I think Clarko set the side up for a ’0-0‘ draw with the intention of trying to snatch a ‘late winner’. It nearly worked as we were still in the game somewhat 5 minutes into the last qtr. Our defensive game was ok, players were working hard and running back when losing possession even late on when the game was over. Usually the flood gates open in those instances. Thought Mahoney was good, didn’t shirk it and put himself in the game. Ziebel was good again, Bergman has good vision, Drury reasonable debut. If Cunners doesn’t hit form in the next month then…. (He at least deserves some time to hit his straps).

We look much better with Perez and Burgman across half back.

Recon Paul Curtis needs a good stint in the twos, doesn't defend at all.

Polish is what lost it for us tonight. Recon we were almost there all game, but how many set shots can our forwards miss?? I recon four set shots didn't even make the distance from 40 out 💩

Tonight was the perfect night to send Curtis into the centre bounces.

Have a different mix. Cunners was getting ****ed up. Put Zurhaar deep one out. Cam was one snag away from lighting shit up - Curtis was probably one clearance from getting some easy ball and breaking the shackles of a Lyon style defender

Really lit it up!

Moot point anyways, as if we're honest with ourselves, he would've left back to WA by nowView attachment 1681362

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but at the time he was considered the best kpf in the draft instead we took another midfielder what did we need a kpf surely you can see that was wrong at the time

One single choice hasn't led us to a chronic KPF shortage. I am not close enough to the club to know what their thoughts were on flight risk, but I honestly feel he would've got a decent offer from WC and left after 2 years.

I totally agree we should've picked up more KPF prospects over the last 5 years.
