Hindsight is a wonderful thing but at the time he was considered the best kpf in the draft instead we took another midfielder what did we need a kpf surely you can see that was wrong at the time
Two kpfs were drafted before him as was another tall and what looks like a better KPF was drafted later as well in JVR.

Meanwhile our midfield was Cunners, Jy and an unproven LDU who had played 30 games in three seasons.

Interesting that a lot of people are saying we were more competitive today. I think it's more the case that we were less uncompetitive. Happy days!

We were still a chance when Stevo goaled 5 minutes into the last

Last week it was over 5 minutes into the first

I missed the whole first qtr and part of the second but I feel like we are getting our structure and game plan back.

I thought we were gonna be absolutely smashed today, we definitely were so s**t in front of the sticks but you can see we have somewhat our s**t together.

🤣I’m trying to work out if we got our shit together or if all our shit came together for us today.

Larkey is not a #1 forward. I don’t know why the club got carried away with the few cheap ones he’d bob up with every now and again, then see fit to trade away or delist any support he had. He’s at best a second tall. Which is fine. Even when he’s on song, he’ll kick 4 or 5 occasionally and thanks to his straight kicking he’ll look really good.

Mate a player that kicks 3/4/5 goals CONSISTENTLY isn't just bobbing up for "cheap ones"

Also lol @ the bolded
"Larkey is not a good forward but he only looks good because he kicks goals :drunk:"

Much better losing by 30 and only kicking 4 goals with a much younger 22, then losing by 90 with a senior 22.

Obviously wasn’t much of a spectacle but I left the game a lot happier seeing Mahoney, Perez, Bergman, Drury get a crack then the usual suspects.

Bergman needs to play every week.
Bergman was great.

Compact with ball in had, made near decisions and then when it was his turn to go and defend in the air looked solid.

I’ll go back and watch the tape but I can’t remember anything too glaring for a defender in his 5th game - 16 touches 4 intercepts.

Lots to work with

THIS IS WHY IVE ALWAYS WANTED HIM IN

He rarely makes mistakes. That is both with and without ball in hand. When he goes he makes the contest. When he used the ball he executes.

Like Sheezel, it seriously stands out in our back 6.

Let's be honest Ross Lyon coached opposition usually involves a slugfest. There was so much congestion I could understand why it was more difficult for even LDU to get away from the pack. That's just how it is.

Given we couldn’t buy a goal for most of the match despite having equal inside 50s as them I couldn’t understand why we didn’t try Sheez up forward? We have a hugely talented natural forward on our hands but just refuse to play him there.

The umpiring decision to call for a ball up in our goal square when the ball broke free for a goal was one of the worst umpiring calls of the weekend.

The two throws in about 30 seconds by Hunter Clark right in front of St Kilda’s favourite son Leigh Fisher weren’t far off either..

I don't think we have a replacement for what he's doing in the backline. I reckon a large part of Ziebell's revitalisation this year is he has a smart player to work with back there, they're doing great work.
