Prisoners

Many have been raving about this one and have to say I thought it was terrific.

Thriller by genre and it certainly was that, very suspenseful. Some fantastic acting from Gyllenhaal, Jackman, Leo and Paul Dano.

I think the ending is fairly weak but other than that a thoroughly.....enjoyable movie. I say that with reservation as the plot doesn't lend itself to enjoyment.

Reckon this film will win it's fair share of awards and I certainly recommend it.

:thumbsu: Not sure how you knock 2 points off. To use RK's term, Villenueve is a boss. Incendies then this :thumbsu:

My son bought a copy of 'Rear Window' on Blu-Ray and we watched it last night. If you take a step back and think about it the story is implausible. The fact that a good script and Hitchcock's direction can make a reality in your mind is brilliant. Great cast with James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Thelma Ritter, Wendell Corey and Raymond Burr as the bad guy. A little risqué with the newly weds and the dancer who touches her toes and teases the viewers in more than one scene. A little sad with the lonely woman in the ground floor flat. The music is provided by one of the residents. And Hitchcock appears in the film fleetingly. Four stars.

The Butler

Saw this one last night. I wasn't sure what I thought after the movie, and I'm still not sure now.

Part of me loved it, but there was also something about it that I just hated.

Brilliant cast and a reasonable story. I think what I disliked was the extent to which to movie deviated from the truth. The story is a great one and worthy of a movie without moving away from the facts. Personally I would have preferred a movie much more aligned with the facts than one with so many fictitious interjections.

I'll settle and call this a good movie. It wasn't terrible, and it could have been great, but it just wasn't.

6.5/10. I think...

Gilly likely will, as he's an O. Russell fan.

I'm looking forward to Inside Llewyn Davis at this stage.........................and I've just realised that I haven't seen A Serious Man yet.

Looking forward to reading his critique.
Likes to think of himself as a bit of a movie buff.

I liked Dogma

Don't expect any love from the music and film clique on the Carlton board...

Bad Grandpa is a funny skit. No way the jokes could have carried an entire movie.

Strippers and Beauty Pageant were quality. I thought it started really slow and the skits were not that funny.

If it was a couple of the smaller skits in a jackass movie then it would be funny, but you can't just spam the same jokes for 90 minutes and expect gold.
