I love Coen Brothers movies, I just don't like this one.
My apologies. I misinterpreted your bracketed comment as meaning most of their films are shite:confused:.

My son's a huge fan and he certainly enjoyed this latest film. He's also a huge Bob Dylan fan and the character was loosely based on Dave Van Ronk, a bit of a legend of the Greenwich Village Scene who he has listened to also. It might have been a film for the fans of that moment in time. A bit like Clint Eastwood and his film about Charlie 'Bird' Parker.

I thought the script was well written. The songs were strong. I loved the look of the film. In colour but it felt black and white. The main character was totally self centred and that's what made him interesting. As for laughs, the cat (or should I say cats, apparently cats don't follow direction very well, totally immersed in method acting, much to the chagrin of the Coen Brothers) stole scenes from the human actors. The scene with his father was totally moving:D

Wrote up some words on 12 Years a Slave elsewhere but this one is an absolute beauty, in every sense of the word.

After some ordinary movies in recent weeks (Saving Mr. Banks being the most ordinary) this one made me appreciate movie-making again. 9/10

Just watched it.
****.
Don't think I'll be sleeping tonight. Another 9.5/10

The Great Beauty
This seems to be a love it or hate movie, but I was kind of in the middle. Rome is beautifully shot, but it is probably a bit long, and quite sad. 6/10

Blue Is The Warmest Colour
Fantastic movie, and clearly deserving of the Palme d'Or it won. The two leads are amazing, but especially Adele Exarchopoulos. Also very sad.
9/10, at least.

Went and saw the Australian movie Darkside (a story about indigenious ghost stories) 3.5 out of 5. It was ok came from the director who directed Samson and Deliah which I loved. Favourite movie I've seen over the past month has been a Norweigan movie called 'The Highjacking' was brillant.

I don't think I could handle sitting through a three hour movie about young love and then it ending up going horrible wrong.
