Why the Barrett hate he is usually one off the best when it comes to rumours

Trelor would be a bargain at 700k and would be a huge get GWS best young mid

Hardest part is what do we give up?

If they bring in the trading of future picks, then 2015 and 2016 first rounders are a start.

The boy is definitely worth a good long look.

The difference between their pick and our pick is only going to be 7-8 places. How great a swingman has Reid been over the past 2 years? We have to face the fact we may never seen him back to his best again. It's a similar story with Witts, he MAY turn into a gun ruckmen but that's far from certain. What is certain is that Treloar is going to be an A grader and Patton fills a MASSIVE need for our list.

Would you rather Treloar or Witts right now? Treloar. Ruckmen might be worth more but one is a proven commodity the other is speculative.

Would you rather Patton or Reid right now? Both come with injury concerns and huge talent, Patton fits our age demographic better and Reid fits GWS's better. I would rather Patton, former no.1 pick and if he gets his knee right will be just as good as Cloke.

The trade Kappa proposed is so much in favour of us it isn't funny... GWS would not do it.

Has there been any suggestion from either Treloar or his agent that the player wants to leave GWS ??
Probably not. Not openly anyway. When was the last time you remember a player coming out after round 4 and saying that they want to leave their club, come at me?

Nothing will be said other than straight bat answers until after the season is done. Unless he resigns with GWS of course

Thought I'd pop in here to go see what the consensus was from your mob on Treloar.

The reality of our situation is that we would have to lose one of Treloar/Shiel/Coniglio, but Treloar would sting the most, he's an absolute gun and in my mind is already a Top 20-25 mid at 21, and should only get better. 700k is an absolute steal and if he's leaving Sydney, I would expect another Vic club to top that.

If you get him - you'll love the way he goes about it. Hopefully if there's some merit to this, something amicable can be worked out

So when Cloke retires you want to leave a massive gaping hole in our forward line? Tall forwards take years to develop and we need to start preparing years before Cloke leaves, ie now. A player not getting many injuries in the past doesn't mean that will happen in the future. Plenty of players have had injury free careers only to break down at 30. What if Cloke does his ACL tomorrow? Who are our power forwards for the year? Gault and White? :$

But that does not mean Patton is the answer to the problem. At the moment he is the least proven and greatest risk of all of the players in your scenario. You are paying well overs for him.

Yes he would be good at the right price, just not at the price you are talking.

Clubs become attached to their best players, and particularly players who they have been responsible for developing.

Clubs so often think their guy, as with fans, thinking their guy is better. It makes trading, particularly with these bigger pieces so hard. And that's the critical learning when people talk about the genuine big names in a trading context.

Is it that the club "thinking their guy is better" really the reason?

Or is it that consequences are too great if things go wrong?

A Treloar and Patton deal if we're going full fantasy scenarios I imagine would look more like Treloar and Patton for Elliott, Witts, Reid and our first round draft selection.

And even then it's rarely so easy to get anyone interested in moving. And certainly not so many big time pieces on both sides.

Talk about getting bent over, no way would i do that trade.

Just give them our first 2 picks, just like what we got for Beams last year. If Treloar insists to come to us, GWS would have to take that.

Does anyone have any info on Barretts track record? Wondering how much substance there is to this rumour.

If there is something to it and we have to work out a trade, GWS would surely prefer players over picks wouldnt they? Something along the lines of two good established players would be around the mark

Treloar at $700k and 5 years? He will laugh at that though. He's the GWS best young mid. He will get offers when he's coming to FA that are higher then that.
Would love it if he could end up with us but i cant see it happening.
And when his 5 year contract is done with us he will be a free agent.. ATM he is not a free agent

If GWS play finals not too many of their young guns will leave

Pick 5 + untouchable for trelor

But I've really taken a shine to Crispy. :( Oh wait I just noticed my avatar - forget what I just said...

Back on topic - I don't think Patton is a guy we should be going for really - two ACL's at his age are an issue but the real problem I have with him is he is too one dimensional as a deep forward and his mobility / tank aren't great (compare him to Clokey any of the other young "gun" forwards going around at the moment).

There was an article they did on the "big four" young forwards (Patton, Cameron, Boyd, Hogan) in the HS a couple of years back - at the time I was thinking to myself that Patton was clearly behind the other three in terms of being a prospect, two ACL's further on (as well as the emergence of the other three to varying degrees) and I can't see any reason for that impression to change.

Football has moved on from hulking, one-dimensional forwards to a large degree (especially those who may lack a bit of mobility) and, given his now unfortunately significant injury history (you just can't ignore back-to-back ACL's in a bloke his size), I'd rather look elsewhere for Clokey's successor.

Fantasy land is exactly where your trade thoughts should remain.

I'd do a Reid/Treloar straight swap.

Both sides win imo. While Reid is more valuable when fit, the fact that he's not durable brings his value back and makes that trade about even. Remember, Reid only JUST turned 26. He's not exactly old.

No way is Reid by himself more valuable than Treloar. If he plays solidly through the back half of this season with no sign of injury then he has currency, but not for a top tier 21 year old midfielder.

Thinking of trading Reid is misguided IMO. Until he puts together a solid period of decent footy at AFL level, we will get severely reduced value for him.

Its pretty good to be honest people will hate on him but he is one off the best

Reid is pretty well liked around the club think we have the culture running pretty well i would not want to affect that by trading Reid
