Will probably relent and buy this soon.
I'll add you guys on Origin when the time comes...

We were saying last night that normally these companies nail the announcement and pre-release stuff but bork the game. Not the other way around. Hopefully you like it as it has only just been us two and we’ve been really enjoying it but it would be cool to have some more bros. Even Rotterdam has grown on me but that might be just because I understand the flow of it now. Still don’t like Hamada or Aerodrome though.

I love Aerodrome, probably my favourite map. Although Arras is awesome too!

What do you like about Aerodrome? Could be my play style that just doesn’t simply agree with the flow of the map. It just turns into two camps, C and the buildings just near it (A I think?). Map seems to favour British too but that might just be anecdotal.

Agree that Arras is where it is at though!

Just love it, it has a bit of everything. You can chill in the outer hallways of C for close combat carnage, you can snipe out in the open areas. B is cool with that cluster of buildings for flanking. Plenty of opportunities to pod. Plus I just love the idea of the map. A bunch of old hangars... it's a cool setting.

I love Arras though, it's cool that the fields of flowers will burn away as the game progresses if people throw incendiaries or grenades or you blow up a tank. The fire spreads.... it's cool.

From watching various YouTube's I'm getting the vibe that it's more tactical in choosing your movement and navigation thanks to the nerfing of 3D spotting. This is the complete opposite of my big gripe about the map designs limiting your navigation options.
Maybe one cancels the other out? It does look like the giant Zerg circle cap fest has been fixed a little too. Anyway, infantry looks like it'll suit me engaging the enemy at arm's length

Planes look OP right now with attrition barely affecting a good pilot at all.
Who, in previous titles, would be in the habit of doing a strafing run flying to the edge of the airspace to repair and wait for bombs to recharge before completing another strafing run.. So now they have to fly to a specific point to magically get health and resupply their payload.

Tanks look weakened for my playstyle. I used to park on an objective for the cap and to flush the enemies out with destruction and the ability to whip the turret around with infantry like speed. The fixed turret rotation speed will make this a very risky proposition forcing any smart driver to play behind the front line. Also for such lumbering vehicles they need an increased volume of ammo before attrition kicks in because unlike infantry, a support can't give out extra tank shells and you can't scavenge any off the carcass of the other tank you've just destroyed..

I think the biggest difference for me will be having teammates. I put in nearly 1000 hours on BF4 & maybe 200 hours on BF1 as a lone wolf after leaving console for PC after BF3. I didn't even bother to learn how Discord worked until PUBG forced me to!

Also it'll be like a free GPU upgrade for Radeon users like myself after suffering through all the Unreal Engine stuff I've been playing lately. It'll be nice to peg the fps counter to 144 again!

Shit now I sound like I'm talking myself into it... M30 drilling looks like the new Martini Henry which took over from the original troll weapon, the 870 combat shotgun with slugs from BC2!

I play on XBOX.

I've found planes and tanks to be far less damaging than they were on BF1. I had a tank adventure last night for like 10 minutes and didnt kill anyone despite me shelling them almost perfectly. No kills. It was like my tank was pointless.

Planes too dont kill me half as much as the Muromets did on BF1.

I like it.

Damn I was thinking of dragging you to a chicken dinner on PUBG but that ain't gonna happen now!

Rotterdam has turned more into the circle work you described than the utter mess it was on beta. I like it though as there is usually a massive shit fight over D and E due to their proximity, but by the time you win both the enemy has usually taken A. Between B and D is like an instant kill zone so the fighting turns into absolute chaos between E and A due to the railway and broken buildings. I dig that sort of chaos though, suits my play style.

The biggest change to tanks is their emphasis as a support vehicle which was actually their historical role at inception. Rolling a tank into a point to cap is usually suicide now, however a tank that parks just off the point can hold it down single handedly until their team rocks up to cap. On Twisted Steel the other night I started the game in a Tiger. I parked myself on a bridge between two points with full field of view and it was a choke point due to the surrounding swamp and I held it down for probably 10 minutes. Enemy couldn’t cap and I fended off a Churchill that tried getting me because I had the better position.

I think I read bombers are getting a nerf but I don’t mind it. It’s not like the chopper whores who could buzz around picking the entire team off with impunity. I honestly don’t fear planes as a ground trooper as all they can do is carpet bomb. If you hear an enemy bomber and you’re capping a point then take cover. The bombers help break up the choke points like on Fjell. If bombers didn’t have the way they did then Fjell would have zero flow and it would be whoever caps the middle two points first.

Game is optimised beautifully too, reckon you will be happy! I’d hate to say yeah you should get it only for you not to warm to it, but so far silverscope and myself are certainly enjoying it far more than we thought we would. To be honest I wasn’t even going to get it until I gave it a go with the Origin Access trial and I was pleasantly surprised.

Planes are a bit OP but not drastically. They are buffing AA guns so it'll be interesting for air combat after the update.

Dwwaino hit the nail on the head in regards to tanks. You are not going to survive for long going head first into battle with a tank. A single Assault will destroy you in no time and there are a lot of assault players.

As for the M30 dominating I've found it's not as popular as it probably seems. Although that may change with the game fully released now.

Hmmm. Switched bands on the router from the 5g to the 2g band & now Origin is downloading at 5.75mb sec...

It's a brand new Asus RT AC88U and the wifi range is outstanding.
2.4 has better range than 5

The last bf game i played was bf1942.

If it's done when the kids are asleep I'll play for a bit otherwise I'll be finishing my bed and breakfast in fallout :p

Well a lot has changed since 1942! It’s pretty fun, I was surprised (see above). Would be good to have more teammates so I have somebody to spawn on while scope is too busy being an “absolute virgin” in a bomber.

It’s a proper PC game, not just a crappy port so it runs well. You’re on a 980 aren’t you? Should have no issues.

Yeah 980 my cpu might bottleneck it though, reckons it has 2 hours left on the dl.

I think I may own BF2 as well
