Re: Bay 13 Ashes thread

Got to look to the future, is there a better way to blood a new batsman than in a tough series(Hughes in SA as an example), Hussey has lost his mojo.
Hughes earned his spot by weight of runs, it wasn't about blooding a new batsmen, he was just the player who deserved the spot the most.

Re: Bay 13 Ashes thread

Symmo provides an X factor and saves runs in the field.

I think Symmo @6 would worry the poms more than North.
nah, he is great in the field but technically he is shit & has proven it as a number 6. He had a small patch of good form but a number 6 should be making hundreds when the chance comes & not 40's.
North can make big scores & he can bowl decent spin.
I think we have the bowling attck to worry the poms but we need players who can make big scores & not the occasional 70 or 80.

Career average of 40.61 is good for a number 6 who has played 26 tests and bowls as well (24 @ 37).

Those occasional 70's & 80's can come in quick time and change a test match.

Also add the runs per match he saves in the field.

Just think of a middle order of Symonds,Haddin & Johnson. With that strike power I would be happy for someone like Katich to drop anchor at the other end.

Re: Bay 13 Ashes thread

What's people's views on whether Hauritz should play or whether his spot should go to McDonald or Hilfenhaus?

With the risk of being howled down by the editors of Wisden. If they dont pick Hilfy then go with Macdonald over Hauritz.

Macdonald/Hauritz are both there to tie up a end and Macdonald provides added batting depth. Part timers can provide a spin option

North, Katich and Clarke go allright as part timers. Selecting between Hilfy and Macca would be a hard choice. Hilfy can swing the ball or Macca as the extra batsman?

I'd go Hilfy.

Re: Bay 13 Ashes thread

The Australian selection panel has some serious issues with it if it picks Hauritz. But we all know that, Hodge's past exclusions have been baffeling.
Happy to see England win as it will mean big changes to the side, hopefully resulting in blooding youth.

Ferguson is a quality batsman, but Cosgrove is twice as good and despite his weight, he should be getting a squad position. Haddin is a cheat and douchebag, and a replacement should also be looked for eg; Wade, good young keeper you can bat and gain experience. Jon Holland is twice the spinner Hauritz is, left armer IIRC giving him an advantage, more attacking and younger. Hilfy should be played ahead of Clarke whos time has passed. Just my thoughts.

Not that I will compare him to Steve Waugh, but waugh batted at 6 for a large part of his career. We need a player that can save an innings or add to a great start by making big scores. the occassional 70 or 80 to me just doesn't cut it.
With North & then Haddin & MJ we could really make the Poms struggle even if they have us at 4-100. Symonds won't save us in that situation.

I hear what you are saying.

This is a attack vs defend argument. If he is consistently needed to play a defensive innings then we have problems elsewhere in the order, but I have always enjoyed the attacking nature of the Aussies over the years and I believe this approach has resulted in more victories than otherwise would be achieved.

His debut century came from a scoreline of 5/84 and his second century also came from 4 for not many as well so he has proven he can perform when the team is under pressure. One could say his 162 won us the test against India.

HAHAHA you would have been calling for Crosthwaite a year or 2 ago.. where will it end. This is the Australian cricket team. Cant you flogs look passed which state a player comes from??

Cosgrove :eek::eek: As long as he is getting dropped from his state side.. I dont think he is good enough for a baggy green. ave 41 and has 11 career centuries..

Hilfy ahead of Clarke... 3 Strikes your out!!!

Ohhh the media monkeys and their junket junkies will invite you to their plastic pantomime ... throw their invites away!!

not sure i think he can do alright, can tie one end down which i think will be handy and with johnson, siddle and clark being real wicket takers i think it will be handy to have a player like him.

Re: Bay 13 Ashes thread

Bad call... ridiculous call... SHOCKING CALL!! Hauritz, McDonald or Hilf... none of the 3 are going to win you the game.. If whoever gets picked can contribute it will be up to the others to get the job done.

Clark is out, Hauritz & Hilfy are in, could be hard to win now.
