Beams does a Presti

"ruled out of Saturday's Grand Final against Geelong, owing to groin soreness"

So... let me get this straight... Beams injury is "groin soreness" that makes him miss a grand final... however Reid and Jolly will PLAY with more severe groin injuries? LOLokay.

Supposedly Beams approached Mick, and you would only do that if something was not right!

BTW, even Robbo has retracted what he said about Beams being dropped, on twitter. Robbo says "I was wrong about beams. Respect".

Maybe you could follow his lead now? Or is everyone else wrong and only you are right?

Go ask any person with half a brain who understands football and doesn't barrack for collingwood about this. Its so obvious he was dropped for form and he has a history of choking in big matches.

Here, pick me. I have exactly half a brain and don't barrack for the Magpies.
Watching Reid,Jolly and Beams running around against Hawthorn, if you had to pick which one of those players had an injury, no one would say Beams. Yet the other 2 are clearly hampered and are still going to play. If beams isn't injured, then Collingwood clearly value Jolly and Reid more.

The best part was Beams did a "Presti".

That is one hell of an honour to be fair, Presti has to be one of the most honest, hard working but quiet players to take the field, and I'm damn glad his influence still rubs on today.

I'm just so damn disappointed he never got a medal, such a deserving player, should get the inaugural CollingwoodFC "Simon Prestigiacomo award for selflessness and team somethingorother", awarded yearly at the B&F for the player who goes outside the responsible line of duty often to help the team as a whole.

Would be a shitty award to judge, but **** it, loves Presti too much to not want to see it!

See the highlights of CollingwoodFc testing out Jolly on Wednesday? Mick has said Beams approached him, not that he has been dropped. There is no way they would drop Beams if uninjured.

Put your money where your mouth is!

Some people are ridiculous.

Said he was injured to make him feel better? I'm pretty sure he knows if he's injured on not. He's gonna feel like crap to be dropped for a Grand Final, it's not like he's gonna feel any better or less ashamed if the club fabricate a lie to make it look like they didn't drop the kid. That would be weak as piss from the club and if I was in Beams's situation, I would feel even more humiliated because of it. It simply wouldn't happen.

Putting it another way. The club were happy to come out and say they dropped Leon Davis last year weren't they? Are they going to be less protective of the public image of a long term servant who has bled more for the club and is part of the fabric of the place over a talented youngster who's been in the system a couple of years? The coaches would have more of a relationship with Leon and if they were the types to create lies such as this would have been far more likely to have created them to protect Leon than Dayne.

If you take it from the angle that they "lied" to make sure he doesn't leave the club then it still makes no sense. He either knows he is trusted and part of the future best 22 of the club or he doesn't. Whether the wider public agree or not is irrelevant.

So Beams has a poor GF record so let's drop him hey? Let's not play Leon Davis either then. Rubbish argument.

To those questioning the club, there are absolutely no grounds at all to show that it would have been beneficial to the club to lie about Beams this week. It just makes no sense. They wouldn't be protecting anyone, least of all him.

Finally, why would he have been dropped anyway? He is a gun. You don't drop a gun after 1 poor performance. He has been in our best 5 players over the last 2 months, is in our best 10 to 15 players most other times, has an excellent record against Geelong, is a goalscoring midfielder and our goals from midfield have dried up in recent weeks and he is strong over the ball and good in the wet - it is meant to rain on Saturday and the ground will be heavy whether it rains or not.

If we were going to drop a quality player after 1 poor game then the following would have been dropped at some stage recently;
-Didak
-Brown
-Wellingham
-Fasolo
-Toovey
-Dawes
-Jolly
-Sidebottom
-Johnson
-O'Bien
-Krakouer

He's injured

Kudos :thumbsu:

You are talking like you have facts but in reality you have suspicions and conspiracy theories... Try not to be so arrogant. Admitting that you don't really know would be a start. Denying that it's even possible that Beams actually did declare himself unfit seems a little bit like you just can't handle the thought of being wrong. I'm sure a lot of people out there do believe something fishy is going on and they have every right to their opinions, but the fact that they have conspiracy theories doesn't make them any wiser than those who believe that it's possible he actually might have pulled a Presti.

Thats all good and well but you don't know how they pulled up after last Friday's game.

Right now I'm willing to believe the Club as opposed to the opinion of the oppo supporters or some guy I've been ignoring for the last few weeks.

Aaahh I'd believe that beamsy is one hell of a bloke. Good on him for doing the right thing, and plucking up the courage to tell MM. Now to Reid and jolly, they would be given until the deadline on Saturday morning to be 100% certain, seeing as they are key players.

Beams can easily be replaced because he is a mid forward type player which we have multiple options for. And blaze, for all we know dayne could have had work down in the rooms at half time, or even after the match, unless of course you're one of the physios :)

Some absolute rubbish being pedalled in here. Either needs a fierce clean up or a bloody lock.
Clean up, too important of a thread to lock IMO, Beams has done something to be proud of here, and something to be congratulated for, it deserves a thread at least.:)

I don't get the conspiracy theory people are on about. If he was left out he isn't the first person to be dropped for a GF and won't be the last. What is it exactly that the club & Beams need to create this huge alleged lie about?

If he was dropped he was dropped and if he is injured he is injured. Players get dropped all the time - a conspiracy theory needs something to hang your hat on - what is the huge thing the club would need to be lying about exactly??

He may in fact have been dropped anyway if he hadn't approached the coach about his injury - but so what? Why is there a need for a lie.

I think people on this thread are more interested in saving face rather than caring about what happened- hence a conspiracy theory.

I haven't read the thread all the way thru, but is anyone able to upload footage of it? I only saw what Mick said on the footy show and it was quite brief. It sounds as if he went into greater detail on the game plan.

Beamer u r a legend. U will go down in folklore, much like Presti.

Agree with the sentiments, but would definitely lean towards the bolded! The vast majority of us have chosen to believe the club on this. Because of that what Beams has done deserves to be celebrated and where better than in a thread dedicated to his noble act :thumbsu:

I think the truth might be somewhere in the middle.

Beams went into last weeks game under a cloud, not sure whether he tried to cover it up or the medical staff took a calculated risk.
Either way it turned out badly for Beams, now he has taken the honorable path and said he won't be 100% this week, if it had been Swan i'm sure the club would have taken the risk and played him.

Unfortunately for Beams he needed to be 100% to have a chance of playing.

Probably in hindsight Beams may have been better off missing last week and taking his chances this week.

Not quite in the Presti realms of self sacrifice but still worthy of our respect.

I initially thought when the teams were announced that it could be a cover up to hide the fact Beams had been dropped, but now it's pretty clear he pulled himself out of the selection process early on. I'm glad he's done it if he felt he couldn't get through a full game and it would effect his playing ability. I hope he can have an injury free season next year and play well in the finals.

He'd feel a lot better being dropped for an injury than being dropped for not being good enough?? As for Ball if the club tells him to say something of course his gonna say it.

Its a great cinderella story but think about it logically. Reid and Jolly play with groin injuries and get work done last game, yet beams has no work done during the game so unless its magically happened early this week or its not even an issue his been dropped due to form and he chokes in grand finals.

Thank you genius.

If Beams were dropped purely on form then he would, most definitely, have been named as an emergency. One bad game wouldn't push Sinclair up the pecking order ahead of Beams.

Or is this all just an added layer to your conspiracy theory?

Love to know your thoughts on the Moon landing and 9/11.

for a young footy player, unbelievably tough decision to make and good on him.

Really excited to see Fasolo light up the G in his first GF!
