Ben Cousins

I hate to disapoint you but football these days is all about buisiness. It is all about sponsors and the dollar. That is one of the main reasons the BL pulled out of signing him as the sponsors do not want to be associated the stigma that surrounds him etc

Fair comment, the only reason football clubs exist is to make money, there is simply no other reason.
If there was no money in it for the clubs, football would be a very amateurish game and not very popular.

Last time I was on here there was a thread about Ben requesting a meeting with Barnaba, Demetriou and Fitzpatrick about coming back to WCE as a mature aged rookie, I've been unable to get near a computer or any relative news on this for the best part of 2 weeks - have there been any developments? Or was this ust another crazy rumour started by someone with nothing better to do?

Thanks guys.

i think the latter.

Oh man I'm gonna throw up!! :(

well, that WAS my point exactly..the way some emotionally overwhelmed fans carry on its not too dissimilar to micheal jacksons song "Ben"..and curiously, some of the lyrics match up quite well..
all i'm trying to say is its over...new year, new team, new gameplan(we hope),let it go and lets get it on...

There is always room for ben in any year, any team and any gameplan!

For those that give a hoot. There was word on SEN tonight that Richmond are attempting to have Polak moved to a rookie listed player spot ala Rama... this in turn would free up a spot for them to grab Ben in the PSD.

BREAKING NEWS: RICHMOND has asked the AFL for permission to put Graham Polak on the rookie list, potentially clearing the way to draft Ben Cousins.
Polak is recovering from severe brain trauma after being hit by a tram during last season.

The Tigers have asked the AFL for permission to put him on the rookie list as a long-term injured player.

Should Richmond recruit Ben Cousins? Have your say below.
Essendon was allowed to do that with Adam Ramanauskas when he was recovering from cancer.

If Richmond was allowed to place Polak on the rookie list it would get an extra pick in next Tuesday's Pre-season Draft.

It currently has pick No.6 in the draft.
If it had a second one, it would be the only club with a pick in the second round of the draft, effective the seventh selection.
The Herald Sun's Mike Sheahan says he believes the Tigers are very keen on acquiring Cousins.

That would give the Tigers room to add fallen Eagle Cousins to their playing list.

The self-confessed drug addict appeared to be out of options for his AFL career after the Brisbane Lions declared they would not be drafting him before last month's AFL Draft.

The AFL has circulated the Tigers' request to the other 15 clubs for discussion ahead of next Monday's AFL Commission meeting where a decision on the submission will be made.
In 2006, Essendon asked the AFL for permission to list Ramanauskas as a mature-age list for the 2007 following a recurrence of his cancer. He was elevated to the senior list mid-way through the 2007 season, playing his first senior game for more than two years against Geelong.
The 24-year-old Polak, who suffered brain damage when he was hit by a tram in June, continues to make a slow but steady recovery but there is no guarantee he will ever return to senior football.
He is in the last year of a three-season deal with Richmond, but is given some hope because he is so fit and has responded well so far.

The Tigers have said they will take a young player with their sixth pick in the draft.

Eight players are currently training at Punt Road that are not on the Tigers' list - Andrew Browne (Murray Bushrangers), David Gourdis, Kade Klemke (Murray Bushrangers), Nick Liddle (Coburg), Patrick Nicholls (St Bedes), Matt Suckling (Sandringham Dragons), Justin Van Unen (Oakleigh Chargers), Bryn Weadon (North Ballarat).

Richmond took Gourdis with the first pick in last year's Pre-season Draft, but he only played one game last season. The Tigers look likely to pick him up again, but could do so in the Rookie Draft.

6PR in Perth are taking a call from Adrian Anderson

Yay, good news for Ben! :thumbsu: ...hopefully!! I really do hope he gets a game

I'm rather pissed off with the people who are calling up 6pr (AGAIN) on news of this, still whinging about the board not taking Ben back...I'm gunna rip up my membership blah blah blah. Yeh...well off you go grandma, I'll gladly take your membership :)

One twat suggested we all boo Nick Naitanui next year, to get the message across to the board. Seriously some people will NEVER understand

yea what idiots^. Crazy what one great footballer can do to people :D

you said it brother. one extremely gifted footballer that was the heart and soul of one of the most popular sporting clubs in australia. thats why so many of these threads have been made. he was a champion player at a champion club. it's sad knowing that because of mistakes HE made, he will never wear our colours again. Some people can't see why it has to be the way it is.

I hope he does go to Richmond and plays his heart out. He owes us nothing and I hope for his sake he turns it all around.

I love the Eagles and always will but I can safely say Richmond if he ends up there will become a side I follow very closely.

As for our board etc etc who have never taken any responsability at all, I hope Ben wins another Brownlow and is a superstar as he was with us just to spite them.

Did not even give him the courtesy of a meeting to put his case forward. Brownlow medalist, club champion, all australian. Clubs favourite son.

What a shame!

Here here, should Cuz actually be drafted by Richmond I'm actually contemplating buying a membership to go next to my West Coast one. :thumbsu:

I'm disappointed he didn't get given another chance to please his case to us. I know he's had many chances, blah blah blah, but he is arguably the best Eagle ever and it will be sad to see him in another club's jumper.

heathens jumping ship! nahhh just j/k, but keep in mind the CLUB is bigger than the player.
As for the reception i actually think he will get cheers. That would be an odd sight, to see an opponent get a huge round of applause, if that indeed happens.

I cant believe a caller said they would boo nicnat coz of a freaking jumper no. Thats pathetic, he is just a kid trying to make his OWN way. I say we collectively moon those that boo. Any follow-throughs will be welcome in their direction

Forgot....self-confessed drug addict, runs and swims away from being stopped by Police.

People playing in the AFL have done much worse things that affected other people.

Anyway, it's sad but I hope the Tiges do get him. Imagine the recovery sessions with Cuzz and Terry Wallace.... Solarium Sundays it would have to be called.

I doubt there would be any banners saying "we applaud what you have overcome"...

Im not sure that would be the case, infact Im confident there will be such banners. Ben has indicated numerous times that he wanted to come back to the club and IMO it was to give the club and his supporters something back. Why not continue to support him regardless of where he plays.
