I’m not going to say anymore except if you don’t have anything constructive to say don’t bother…

I’ve been around football for a long time at all levels and the approach the club is using will eventually bring results. It isn’t easy but it will be rewarding. Perhaps you’re involved with a club that just pays whatever players want to bring success. Some clubs can do this but trust me it fails at some stage and someone has to clean up the mess.

It’s easy to hide behind a keyboard and post rubbish especially when you have no idea of the happenings at Maryborough FNC. They are a proud club and don’t want to be unsuccessful (what club does) but they are also working within their means which is great to see and sticking to a plan that is sustainable and not a ‘boom and bust’ approach that commonly occurs. The club also provides significant benefit to the community in many ways which is something that many don’t realise and that is an important factor to consider for any sporting club, not less Maryborough as a town which has challenges from a socio economic perspective.
Is continuously banging on about Bendigo clubs having an advantage with the pioneers players or bagging out the league board and AFL Central Vic over every decision they make being constructive or is it just the views that we don’t need to punish the better clubs to reduce the standard of the league that is not constructive.

It’s not a problem to keep the great clubs strong - you never want the standard to drop. Just take all the measures that have been put in place for equalisation out because they don’t work. Then if south wanna spend $250k to get some success let them - otherwise the top 4 will be the same for the next 25 years at least

I doubt they will get bagged if they make a good decision but I guess we will have to wait and see on that one.

I don’t quite follow this line about punishing the strong clubs. Surely all this great culture and superb junior programs and coaching I’m hearing about would easily absorb having a few less points to use?

And when you talk about weakening the league, I’m not sure that is possible. Check out the Addy’s five games to hang out for next year from last week.

Castlemaine v Maryborough, fair enough some interest in Maine recruits but hardly a blockbuster, Sandhurst v Gisborne, likely to be the two best sides, Sandhurst v Golden Square, grand final reply sure but looks one sided now and South v Strath, umm traditional rivals?

The last one wasn’t even from the league, some Mickey Mouse interleague game against an unknown opposition.

Sorry Eaglehawk and Kangaroo Flat fans, can’t find anything at all for you to get excited about next year.

Not sure we should be worried about weakening the league when that is the state of it, what about getting some competition and interest back in first.

Kangaroo flat have gotta be talked about as well in the same breath as maine and Maryborough.

It's not just a bendigo problem either, there's a trend of top teams having enough points to go after bottom teams top players and juniors.

Shouldn't the pios programs be pushing their young players to play senior footy at maine, Maryborough, flat, where they'll get senior footy in better positions to develop faster if they're not getting games.

The league should never allowed bailey henderson and Jack ginnivan transfer, without a large points requirement to strath or drop straths points to 5 points per junior from a bottom club to stop it.

The interleague game is against the VAFA, the biggest and strongest metro football league in Victoria. It definitely would be one to watch to see how far the BFL has fallen.

I thought it was odd that the Addy spruiked it as a top 5 game and in the next sentence said they weren’t exactly sure who would be playing for the opposition.

So what would you like them to do?

The sum total of your input thus far seems to be spend more money.
Yes that's right. What's the point in saving money when you're not prepared to spend some when you need to? I'm not saying blow the whole lot, but get some more blokes in to help these kids out. I understand Maryborough will have to pay overs alot of the time but it is what it is. Try and win a small handful of games. Surely that's better than sitting down the bottom and not being competitive??

I’d be interested to know what experience you have in running a club because I think you are mining for fools gold here.

How much money do you think they would need to spend to get to that level and where is it going to come from?

Did you see the census stats I posted about household income? The place is full of multi nationals paying locals minimum wage and taking profits. There’s minimal sponsor support available and very little discretionary income in the community.

There was a previous comment saying the club is in a very good position financially so why not spend some? If not move to a lesser league where you can get away with not spending. As for the rest of your comment about Maryborough itself I know what you mean, I lived there mate.

A good position financially isn’t likely to equate to the 180k they would need to get anywhere near 5th though and might work once but backing up the next year even more unlikely.

My honest opinion is they need to spend overs for a couple of years at least to win maybe 2 or 3 games for a start and then maybe generate some hope. You do then build of the back of that.

I thought they were on the way back after Lavaars last season in charge
