Any knowledge on why Lawrence wanted to leave?
Must have wanted to experience some of that great culture that Daryl is undoubtedly building there.

See that great culture has also landed a superstar player who reportedly commands north of 60k a season.

What’s the salary cap up that way again, $100k?

Must be a spectacular culture to have so many other blokes willing to play for nothing.

Seriously how long is the footy community going to tolerate being pissed on and told by AFL VIC it is raining?

You know nothing about it or that amazing club

Most guys are pretty well looked after financially, but most of the recruits stay for years on end, wade might be on 25-40k I'd think, I'd think he's played on unders at Swan hill for a long time though

And forrest at nully you get to shower with them after the game, probably the only club left where you do that, so you might get a crownie as a visitor at the end of the game

I like you Trent but you look through rose coloured glasses on this stuff.

I know through connections of a club I played at who was also trying to recruit Wade what the asking price was and it was plenty.

I’m not criticising the club at all, just pointing out that clubs are spending much more than the salary cap all over the place and AFL Victoria just turn a blind eye.

Meanwhile clubs who can’t spend as much continue to get crushed.

Because Wade is not being paid the figure that is being bandied around. Well paid..absolutely but the numbers being thrown around are incorrect

I’d absolutely disagree on that but even if it was 40k that’s still a massive chunk of the cap to one player.

Surely you acknowledge there is no way they are going to be under the cap in 2024?

Nulli, Birchip and Sea Lake are all that is wrong with country footy. Its a dick comparing contest. Its a race to the bottom to see who has the most money to spend with no regard of following a very lose salary cap which isnt policed. If these clubs keep spending at the rate they do NCFL wiil quickly become a memory. Other clubs cant be expected to put up with this crap.

There was a really good article about this in the Herald Sun a few days ago where a string of people currently involved said the salary cap is a shambles.

As usual AFL VIC said they think all is well and they are doing a great job.

The answer is to use the points system properly.

No forest it’s the nightlife and the amazing culture at Nulliwal ! $60k players just roll up for the fun of it ! I’m sick of people actually thinking these clubs aren’t over the cap by at least $200k ! Scrap the cap / tighten the points and all this crap goes away

If Nully don’t spend they don’t survive.some as Birchip and Sea lake. These clubs are what keeps the towns going. its their money, they raise it so they should be able to spend it

To me it’s like the Lance Armstrong Tours.

I don’t begrudge him doping because so were all his challengers and the authorities were ignoring it.

What I do have an issue with is people saying the bloke plodding along at the back of the peloton who doesn’t dope ‘isn’t training as hard as the leaders.’

That’s what happens a lot in country footy.

I agree with that but let’s be honest about it and scrap the salary cap.

And let’s use the points system to better effect to equalise things.

For example Josh Jenkins should be a 6 pointer for Sea Lake again next year, but they should lose a few points after winning the flag. Nullawill should have also lost some for being runner up. And Wade should cost 5 points for the next 5 years.

Agree, should be points only

Surely Flaherty wouldn’t be helping Rochy recruit players from Flat? If he is, it’s not a very good reflection on how he enjoyed his time there.
I never said that. Read my post closely. I said word of mouth and a club with a strong culture. Flaherty and Schmidt have links to both Rochester and Bendigo Footy.

What do you think the points should be in bendigo to truly equalise - this is my thoughts

Golden square - 25
Sandhurst - 25
Strath - 25
Gisborne - 26
Eaglehawk - 28
South - 30
KFlat - 40
Maryborough - 40
Castlemaine - 40

it's no good one league having no points, every bfl player is leaving as it is. Metro prwmier and a grade ammos should be 30 points. Bendigo, Ballarat, Geelong, oandm 35 starting points for the top teams, gv, Murray, Gippsland 40 etc

And you should be allowed 1 player outside the cap and points, a marquee player like a fev, Stevie Milne, etc, you still want to watch the best players and entice them to play community footy

The rumours were wade the president of nully had deep heavy pockets every nully home game, 25k to pay players, paid every home game, you'd think darryl and Matt wade coming, the pockets might be even deeper

Yep I wasn’t suggesting you stated it as fact - merely the thought that it could even potentially be happening. You’d hope it’s not the case with Flaherty.

I bet my left but that the figure is around the 60k Mark. And my right one and my house too

Roota HTF would you know what a bloke in nully is getting paid ! Seriously mate you wouldn’t have a clue so why pretend. Just because you have sniffed Daryl’s bum for a few years doesn’t mean you know the ins and outs of clubs that are 600km away

I did something ages ago where I ran the points system since it has came in with adjustments for where you finished on the ladder.

For example top team winning flag might lose 3 points, second 2, 3rd 1. 4-7 stay as is, bottom teams get extra on the same sliding scale.

From memory, it basically cut the top teams back to around what Golden Square was this season and everyone else stayed about the same. If you combined that with making discounts limited to one point after 5 years of service then it would really make an impact.

People say the standard would drop but so what? I could name 20 or 30 teams in the past 30 years that would have smashed both grand finalists in 2023 by 10 goals plus but the game this year was a great grand final.

The best way to have a strong league is to have strong clubs and clubs do best when they have competitive games. Being too dominant or too weak kills you financially, you want every club travelling thinking they have a chance to win.

No need to get personal mate, that’s a bit far. Like your strong opinions but let’s just talk footy. 👍

If you actually knew who I was you’d know very well how I might know about clubs up that way
