This is becoming more common—great players heading to district football. I wonder why?
They aren’t taking a young up and coming gun out of the comp.
He has been a good player in the BFL for a long time, and would have turned down better offers over the years.
The lower standard might allow him to play an extra few years.
There is still a fair gap between bfl and LFVL. And NCFL and HDFL for that matter.

Apparently he is going to continue coaching the under 16’s at strath. Coached my eldest this year and was brilliant. Harry will always remember his season being coached by Shannon
Good to hear they’ve changed their tune this time around after what they told him a year or 2 ago.

That if he left (when he wanted to go to Eaglehawk a year or 2 ago), he would be banned from coaching his son at Strath

Think it was an issue when Castlemaine approached him a couple of years ago as well. Exactly right for me as well, you are either in or you’re not.

Slightly different now if he is in a different league perhaps.

Strath under 14’s a direct competitor with Eaglehawk seniors? Each to their own opinion, but given the integrity of the man I wouldn’t have seen it as an issue.
Junior programs are now very closely linked to senior programs mad jack, most notably under 16s. Undoubtably a small conflict of interest there irrespective of the integrity of the man.

I dare say if he had of wound up playing for Eaglehawk then it was due to an issue at Strath in the seniors.

What a load of crap. There's some serious mayo put on this story. If that was the case wouldn't shannon pull he's son and take him and he's mates with him.

The bigger issue is the monopolising of clubs with the best junior players. The bigger question should be why are kids living in marong/maiden gully area to strath to play juniors.

You can’t have a a player from an opposition club in the same league coaching your under 16’s.

Now I don’t know but I doubt that’s the reason Shannon chose to remain at Strath at that time or more to do with his history at the club and that his wife and kids all played there and they decided to stay at the club they are a huge part of

What story? I have absolutely no knowledge of the situation or the story just commenting on what was said above

Given his playing pedigree, a great player and career, and his very good coaching acumen- matched by his desire to coach Senior Football-Geary will be inaugural coach of Marong when they join Bendigo Football league in 2026.

Bendigo is heading in the right direction then. Broadford / Moama / marong and Maryborough all coming in.

In regards to Marong, are they the only club around the district who still play with a sandpit in the middle, due to the concrete cricket pitch used for summer.

In my time it was covered with rolls of turf, then moved to the thicker rubberised synthetic turf but as as many grounds that has been deemed unsuitable so it has revered to simply sand covering the pitch

Not a decision made by the club but is a council thing
