Looking from the Marong perspective, what would be their motivation for joining Bendigo as opposed to Heathcote?

They want to go to Heathcote but they don’t want them. Bendigo would jump at taking them if they showed any interest

They were originally accepted into the the Heathcote league on their first attempt but it was knocked on the head as the LVFNL board denied the application and it got upheld by AFL Vic

BFL is the footy equivalent of a bloke in a nightclub when the lights come on, would take anyone they could get.

I’m interested in what Marong’s perspective would be though. Why would they choose Bendigo rather than Heathcote with more local rivalries etc and arguably an easier situation for a committee in terms of club operations.

The only reason I could see is if they felt the need to move urgently and didn’t want to wait for a pathway into Heathcote to open up.

Because despite all the negativity the Bendigo League is the premier competition in the region and they want to give their kids, and the hundreds of kids that will go through the club in the future, the best pathway

I would have said Marong would have more connection and interest against more rural towns than somewhere like Strath or Golden Square and zero interest in Gisborne or Castlemaine. They’ve still
got Bendigo teams in Heathcote league but also other towns they have more in common with geographically etc

As I said I’m interested in where the club would sit on it though and I know very little about them so might well be wrong. Maybe their supporters have a picture of Sandhurst on their walls with cross hairs on it.

I’d say he was very well respected, on multiple pages not just this one. I don’t recall anyone ever having a dig at him or anything he’s said.

Agree, we’ve had our share of different views but maintained a civil tone which is nice.

The manner in which his account has changed doesn’t look like someone who just walked away, looks like an admin intervention of some type. Identical to what has happened to Big Larry for those who follow the O and M board.

Anyhow, hope all is ok and we see him back soon.

Here’s a topic for the doldrum times, thanks to Westy. Saw the Addy did a ranking of clubs on the last 25 years with a couple of interesting talking points.

Strath ranked 5th (only started 2009) despite having more premierships and a greater winning percentage than both Sandhurst (4th) and Eaglehawk (3rd). Pretty harsh call for mine.

Another interesting one is South one ahead of Castlemaine. Would you rather make 13 finals series to 3, and have 236 wins to 123, or have won a flag?

Personally I’d take the team with the flag ahead of one without no matter what the other stats say.

Sorry forrest it's Trent here mate, yep I had no problem with our differing views on footy, it actually creates discussion about country footy, which is a good thing.

As roota explained I'm at an age where my kids are more involved in their sport and I'll be watching that and be more invested compared to been here and watching footy scores from where I played. You can just email big footy to cancel your account, which I did and I'm waiting for them to cancel this one

I'm more than chuffed you think I'm the genius behind Geoff, my family links to rovers was why he enjoyed my posts there. I think you'll find it was either crezza himself having a laugh or a few rovers players with that one.

As roota explained I'm at an age where my kids are more involved in their sport and I'll be watching that and be more invested compared to been here and watching footy scores from where I played. I didn’t actually think you were Big Laz btw, he’s a unique individual if ever there was one, I just thought there may have been a housekeeping glitch that had caused some accounts to be deleted. Sounds like his has gone for being a naughty boy though.

Won’t surprise you to hear I’m putting my Pies up a couple more slots on the ladder and for the Michelson I’ll take Mick Hartley.

I think a number of people worked out "Geoff" was either a Rovers player or a group of players using the account.

"Geoff" was called out over it and was asked to prove he wasn't a player by posting during a match, with no reply.

Gave them a good outlet to sledge their teammate (the Dud Train) while he played for them.

I saw those theories but I always felt like he had the turn of phrase and vocabulary that only an older man would possess.

Whoever it is should start a comedy show as a bush footy legend character, he/they are without doubt the funniest thing on the forums.
