I think forest raises some valid points. Especially regarding juniors with the points system in place. Its not just a Bendigo thing, you could say the same about the best lara kids going to high school in Geelong and playing at St joes or St marys because of their mates.Again, you can blame others or you can man up and go we got it wrong.
You need ownership of you're own future not hand held waiting for others to help you.
We've had this discussion before plenty of worse of clubs statistically then Maine but are very successful.
I would say you would have zero chance on the board or council purely for the fact you're always right and always negative.
Points system wise comment had nothing to do with the junior programs and coaches they have in place.
Let me guess you want only each club to have 1 junior team. Still wont help castlemaine.
This appears to bring down the quality of the league to make it even. Come up rather then go down.
What do you think will happen with that?
Your so called elite teams become better. As they will just handpick the best 24 players in Bendigo. Not many of your junior B players become senior footballers
I think there'd be a different tune if Hartley coached maine thirds and was getting a bus full of the best Bendigo kids from Bendigo senior or catholic college to head to maine on the promise of senior footy and coaching from him and afl opportunities. Its like when the Gold were around, players thought they were better off getting picked up from sandhurst than playing vfl.
It's hard to turn a clubs fortunes around, I think the first Bendigo league club that really emphasises and puts effort into their juniors will really pay off and that's like having former past champion coaches paid to coach juniors or having the senior coach paid full time and establish how the juniors run.
I'd love to know the councils thoughts on the tac Coates cup and if it benefits footy in the region too
