So I've been off work sick for nearly a week and I'm getting pretty bored. So I thought I'd make up a best 22 of players recruited from outside the under 18 system. There's probably a couple of guys I've missed, but here it is so far.

B Baguley S. Thompson Rampe

HB Hibberd McGovern Tuohy

C I. Smith Zorko Hanley

HF McGlynn B. Brown Bell

FF Crameri Jenkins Dickson

R Sandilands Barlow Vandenberg

I Ad. Saad Mzungu Nahas Mumford

E: Puopolo Blicavs Podisadly

As you can imagine not many out and out stars, but plenty of good solid players who'll always have a crack.

Plenty of ruck talent to choose from. But (with respect to Brown and Jenkins) it shows key forwards are usually blue chip products.

Was it mainly application not talent that saw McGovern passed over?

Also Harry Taylor counts doesn't he? Slot him in at CHB. Stratton to compete for a spot in the backline as well.

Jeremy Howe competing for a spot at half forward or half back as well.

Stratton is such an underrated player. How a players like Morris or Touhy are being chosen ahead of him seriously baffles me.

Also Puopolo has been a better player than Dickson.

Dale Morris is an All Australian who is closing in on 200 games. I wouldn't be so baffled

B. Stratton, Thompson, Spurr
HB. Hibberd, Taylor, Picken
C. Jetta, Barlow, Smith
HF. Zorko, Westhoff, Hanley
F. Crameri, Jenkins, Ballantyne
R. Sandilands, Priddis, Mitchell
INT. Mumford, McGlynn, Sutcliffe, Mzungu

If the criteria involves players who were eligible to be drafted at 18 but were overlooked until the following year, or even later; then Sloane, Mitchell and Harry Taylor would have to be in the side :thumbsu:

I think Taylor IN, McGovern OUT would be a popular exchange. I don't think Mitts qualifies.

Andrew Swallow is another midfield qualifier. Missed being drafted in 2004 as a under 18 player than went back to WAFL senior and reserves levels. Midfield is damn hard to crack into but
