Best field kick of all time?

Nicky Winmar was an absolutely superb kick on either side of the body.
I saw him kick 60m goals with both his left and right foot.
And his passing was so good... it played a huge role in Tony Lockett's goalkicking record.

Yeah was looking for someone to name Winmar. Lockett says he's the best he ever had kick to him.

All the half backs mentioned in this thread are great kicks but the true measure of a great field kicker is how they go under pressure and they have the luxury of running unimpeded when kicking. Jarman and Buckley were masters at weighting kicks to space, undoubtably there was no better. But as far as guys that can hit targets under extreme pressure you need to include diesel, doug hawkins, daics, Simon black, acker, Mitchell, Bartel, pendles. In my opinion that's just as important.

Jarman on either side is better then anyone over the last 30 years.

Jarman's kick was like a homing missile. And not only field kicking - his goal kicking was incredible too. Set shot, snap shot, on the run, either side of the body, didn't matter.

Anyone who compares Steve Johnson to Darren Jarman is a moron. Stevie J butchers more kicks in a game than Jarman did in his whole career.

Only have to look at his body shape post AFL to get the real picture of Jarman, lazy footballer best sums him up, should have won multiple Brownlows, never trained hard enough, should be mentioned in the same breath as Ablett, Buckley and Carey, will always be a 'B' grade superstar.
I'm not denying he was lazy and may not have reached his full potential, but he did come 2nd one year in the brownlow, won Adelaide 2 flags, and noted by Dunstall as delivering a large number of his 1200 odd goals.

Has more premierships than those three put together.

Ps - a lot of blokes got fat post footy.

comparring jarman to buckley is like comparing a BMW to a Great Wall, Buckley could kick 50 plus on both feet, but struggled to hit targets often.

glad some one finally mentioned diesel Williams brilliant on both sides of his body, not the longest kick of time but equal on both sides of his body & hit targets.

aker will sadly go down, in being a bit of a w***er, but his field kicking, flat out on the run either side would have to be up there

Darren Jarman by the length of John Longmire's co...ntract.

Poetry in motion and surgical in its application.

Matt Suckling from Hawthorn would have to be close?

I know he hasn't played much but he has a ridiculous kick, deadly accurate and lethal across larger distance kicks as well.

Thoughts?

Youre a fool, have a spell

Jarman was a great kick, had the art of being able to kick it to his forwards most advantage point, the same art Williams, Couch & Aka had.
Also later in Jarmans career he became a genius around goals.

Buckley's kicking is overrated ,maybe cos he got lots of them, Daicos was far better field kick.
Buckley often over kicked the ball, was more intent on driving it hard & long rather than being precise.
Be interested to see Buckley's career efficiency percentage, I reckon it would be below what Collingwood supporters would believe so.
Don't recall Bux using his left too often , would rather swing back onto his right unless snapping for a goal.

Robert Harvey became the master of the soft 20m pass on the run.

Leon Cameron had issues with his right quad which is why his left foot became so good.

Anje Christow was probably ahead of his time as that sweeping prolific left footer running off the half back line , similar to what Hawthorne has had in the last decade.

Sydney had a few too in the late eighties early 90's, Bayes, browning, Higgins.

Ablett jnr doesn't miss many targets or goals for that matter.

It would be good to talk to all the successful forwards from the last 20-30years to get their opinion on who was the best kick, most forwards eyes light up when certain players up the field have the ball knowing they will get it lace out.
