Zac Williams who has played 1 great final and not even in the 40 man All Australian Squad to Carlton for $850k a year over seven years which will end up hurting the club more that Big Jack's brown paper bag scandal.
Carlton have to use 105% of the salary cap. Are using him to get others onboard for a big 2021. They have also retired two players on above average money and haven’t been able to spent the cap without overpaying. You have to spend the cap. Shiel coniglio all didn’t take the 1.2M plus offered which they had available but it had to go somewhere. He’s also not getting 850k.

Only the biggest game in GWS history btw. And the last time he was given big midfield minutes.

I think the reported salary of $850k a year is most probably bollocks. He is no doubt getting paid more than, in an ordinary market, he is worth but when free agents are in demand, as he is, the successful club has to pay overs. And this selection occurs in the next phase of Carlton’s development. We’ve been to the draft. Now we need experienced players and we have to pay overs for them. That’s just a fact of market economics.

Pretty sure don't ever have to spend 105% though. You're allowed to spend 105% under the right circumstances, but aren't clubs able to pay the minimum for as long as they wish?

Nope you can’t spend the minimum for as long as you like is my understanding..if you spend the minimum in one year you have to make it up in another year.

It’s a crazy set up

Yep. They can pay 95% of the cap but then can’t use 110% the following year. They can go back to back 105% though to get the 10% back. If Carlton pay 100% this year we can delay our 105% till next year. I think you can do it for 2 years then it’s gone.

This is a Jake Niall article. He may be wrong, but he clearly states that it's a choice to make up the previous under limit cap spends. And that if not made up, it's simply lost. I'm going with it not being compulsory. Have never seen it mentioned in that manner, it was always described as an opportunity for clubs.

Hogan for Mihocek? Do you think Hogan will be on the move. Would have him back at Melbourne on the cheap.
There are rumours that he could leave. But this is more that we can't play Mihocek, Tabs, Lobb and Hogan in the same forwardline and none of those blokes are playing reserves.

Then again, JL said that he wants to bring in young players (preferably draft) and clearly that's not Mihocek. So maybe none of this happens.
