I remember duck doing a teary interview with Andrew Denton and he said he wanted to retire from public life and never be in the public eye again. it is mind boggling that channel seven employs a woman beater and a bloke who had to hand back (maybe) his Brownlow medal.
Duck getting all blubbery because Dick didn't buy him christmas presents.

people always wonder if these monstrous full forwards could have worked in the 2010s. turns out ol Wayne would have. he was feeling sorry for himself, classlessly anything from his past to excuse his shit behaviour. maybe he was a pioneer.

Not a role model like Gary Ablett Snr then?

To be fair, we don't see Ablett Snr on TV unless it's the news reporting on him posting a cooked dashcam rant on YouTube.

They're really not. As much as you want to paint both with the same brush.

You're right. One had a historical non-football related crime for which he has done his time and repeatedly expressed his remorse. After many years on the outer he was finally brought back in to the football system.

The other one allowed himself to be injected with unknown substances as part of a systematic cheating regime - for clarity, a regime designed to cheat at AFL football. All the while claiming he did nothing wrong and probably didn't actually hand back the award.

Yep, one of those is simply not fit to be an AFL commentator.

You're trolling if you honestly believe Carey and Watson are anywhere near the same thing.

1997 Indecent Assault
2004 Arrested for Battery
2006 + 2007 + 2008 numerous allegations of assault, and domestic violence, including a guilty plea for assaulting police.
Has also admitted to abusing drugs and alcohol.

Compared with a player who served a suspension for sports doping (not actually illegal or a crime in most countries).

You believe Carey gets a pass because he's 'done his time' for repeatedly egregious behaviours committed against other people, that are actual crimes. Yet Watson who has also 'done his time' for an action that only potentially harmed himself, that isn't a crime, is unfit?

You have a serious issue if you honestly believe Carey and Watson are at all comparable.

Nice melt.

Nice melt.

Hardly a melt, just think it's a disgrace for people to try to obfuscate just how appalling Carey's behaviour was.

Of course, if you think domestic violence and assaulting police is an appropriate standard of behaviour, that you'd be comfortable with people you know engaging in, I guess you would call it a melt.

why? people on tv are meant to be honest and clean?

5 years ago this country had a PM whose favourite hobbies were taunting and assaulting women and homosexuals.

We're talking about suitability as a football commentator here. Carey's bad acts were undoubtedly worse in the broader sense, but does that mean a lifetime of disqualification from employment for which he is well qualified? No redemption available, is that it? Ban him forever because of what he did 12 and more years ago, for which he was punished? I'm pretty sure that's not how the justice system works.

Watson only "harmed himself" because in the end they didn't get away with it. What they tried to do was cheat the rest of the competition.

Anyway, I'm all for redemption, so even though his offence was directly against AFL football, I'm not against him being given a go now that he did do his time.

But jeez, he is a shit commentator. He shouldn't have the job on that basis alone.
