This is a bit inaccurate. SKC were hardly at full strength other than the metro boys. About 10 of the players who played would be in the seconds and some even would have played thirds. Also the scoreline over the two games indicates that SKC was superior anyway.

10 ??? total BS - I know some of their team and they said only Wallace and Liber were out. They had about 15 on the bench so certainly had some depth.
Seb Purcell was not even in their best - they had a couple of players at last equal to him running around.

SKC was totally superior - Trinity can't compete with Scholarship schools - we admit it, and don't even pretend to compete with them.

Maybe the APS and AGSV should be disbanded and two new leagues formed - scholarship league and natural talent league.

Still asking - anyone know the XAVs vs ACK score on the weekend ?

it was 5 or so out, but like you said, an extended bench with alot of 2's/3's getting a run on aswell to see if they could play. The firsts and seconds who played that week had an excess of 15 odd players who got dropped down to 3rds once the APS season started.

and you really can't complain about scholarship schools, as the scholarship boys in conway and salopek didn't play that week, fricot might have been the only one, but he isn't anything exceptional in terms of players that other school( i.e. CGS- Tom Bugg, Dyl Shiel) scholarship.

Assumption won by about 7 goals, in wet muddy conditions.
Not sure how many players Xavier had out, but Assumption deffenatly didnt play their best team.
Dion Prestia (captain)
Michael Tinkler (vice)
Alex Overs (deputy vice)
all didnt play along with other 1st regulars that couldn't make the trip.

thanks Jowar.

pretty sure st pats dominates every year. most players drafted out of any other school in australia. just won heraldsun shield, conceding only 19 goals for the whole competition... and winning by no less than 50 points each game. beat that

Wednesday night hopefully :thumbsu:

For what it's worth, in the last ten years, 9 Haileybury students have gone on to play AFL. Tom Lynch makes his debut tonight.

it differs from year to year but having watched matches from the aps this year i would say that st pats ballarat would comfortably beat any aps team. there wouldnt be a schoolboy side in australia that could beat st pats firsts this year

the st pats side this year has reportedly been described as one of the best school footy sides seen in victoria. the team is likely to have a handful of players drafted in the next 3 years with tom mcdonald, jake ward, jake neade, nick o'brien and brad crouch likely to get looked at over that period. but it's not the individual talent that's impressed most people it's their ability to gel as a team. the way they play is geelong like.

Haileybury have come down the ladder because its Principal took the APS Heads Agreement on Scholarships seriously and honoured it. I am not sure too many other schools abided by the concept. To quote Shakespeare "it was an agreement "more honoured in the breach than in the observance."

Im led to believe that Haileybury still do have a couple of sports scholarships just like every school does. But yep, they have drastically declined the numbers from the days where the whole footy and cricket teams were on scholarships.

gb

Do PAC and Wesley still have their annual exchange match?

Both look to be the best sides in their respective comps this year and would be a high quality match up.

I note St Kevs beat Rostrevor by a goal in Melbourne a week or two ago and both are sitting around 4th in their respective leagues (Although I suppose all of St Kevs stars were rested and their side was mainly made up of Prep school B graders).

Wesley and PAC played this game before the season started. Wesley won comfortably from memory with all TAC players not playing although PAC were missing Viney. Would be interesting to see both full strength teams playing each other in a post season match or something....
