Best football school in Australia

hailebury as a first 18 football side are amazing but they have nothing after that one side. so could you call them a football school because they are led by one team. my veiw on a football school is someone like xavier maybe even a scotch who are competive in most school footy comps, be it 7A'S through to first 18 footy. but dont get me wrong that hailebury has shown its dominance in first 18 for 3 years in the aps, but lets be honest there seconds side which should be there first side get beaten by proper 2's sides all the time.

You're a moron.

Ellis and Hawkins do not constitute a whole school hence MGS aren't the best football school in Australia.

lol two draftees in two years means sweet **** all.

Look at St Pats Ballarat, they have the brown brothers, they can make the same claim

they could also have others such as shaun grigg, matt tyler, justin hardy and matt austin go this year..6 in a year couldnt be a bad thing. They have also produced 2 rising star nominees this year in clinton young and matt rosa. Now thats quality

Ok as much as i want to say SHC is becuase we are ****ing awesome i cant becuase we havent played everyschool and no one can say they are the best footy school basically becuase you havent played everyone and conditions come into it injuries someteams are awesome until tehy lose a star player hence no depth someteams are rad until it ****es down with rain hence no conditioning so stop tlaking your own schools up and just accept you cant judge or compare and for those people saying we ahve draft picks so that cleaerly means they dont play for you anymore so means you just lost alot of pedigree if anything and Sacred Heart has the best draft record of anyschool so um if thats what u wanna judge on we win

Just so we're aware, Judd was down to go to Xavier (like his father did) before caulfield got him on a scholarship. In light of this, Xavier's team of 2001 would have a midfield of chirs judd, jobe watson, luke ball and cam hunter on a wing/flank. Doesn't matter though, still won the premiership as one of 4 in a row.

Over the years, scholarships have been given out by schools in the aps, but never before on the level Hailebury have stooped to. Parents took their students out of the school as a result of this shameless quest for success! Poor form from a bunch of poor blokes. I'm pretty sure all APS schools and the St Bedes Mentone guys would agree, seeing as a fair few of them were poached from there...

The year in which Grigg, Brown x2, Austin, Tyler all played (2006) BCC still beat them in the grand final!!! Best school team?? All play as indivduals

Sacred heart SA:
sam elliott
john hinge
brad sugars
tom redden
jason porplyzia
matthew pavlich
jack juniper
danny meyer
phil raymond
kane cornes
chad cornes
aaron shattock
nick fosdike
josh willoughby
nick smith
jared rivers
adam hartlett

i have a feeling theres more but cant think off the top of my head. the last 3 years of shc has seen 11 drafted by national or rookie or preseason. this has also resulted in the team losing 3 games in 5 years

Add to that Macnamara, probable top 10 draftee this year Hartlett and most likely a few others and theres your proof. Also they have lost 4 games in 6 years which is astonishing. Beat Assumption college this year by 5 goals who won the herald sun shield all of you are raving about. So proves that they are up there if not the best. Theres your evidence right there

There was an article in the newspaper here a few years ago about the most current afl players coming from all the schools across australia. sorry to spoil the party vics but the two equal top schools were sacred heart (SA) and wesley college (WA). in perths competition (PSA) sport scholarships are strictly forbidden so this is quite an effort. however i dont know the current statistics and nor would i ever say that wesley (my school) is the best football school in australia (frankly we suck really for the amount of afl players weve produced). Anyway these are the current players from wesley:

Ben Cousins
Michael Gardiner
Andrew McDougall
Jarrad Schofield
Buddy Franklin
Scott Stevens
Phil Read
Mark Coughlan

other players i know of in recent years now delisted are ricky mott and andrew mccarrey (doing well in the WAFL atm). also david myers, in his last year currently, won the ron barassi medal for the best player in the australia vs ireland series a few months ago, so there will be another one next year.

Add to that list David Myers and hopefully Ali Smith.
Watch out for Brad Sheppard, Mitch Carter as well

Marshy is pretty much a cricket man now

the vics are so stuck up, theres so much ego on this, we all know secretly wesley college is the best overall, though i rekon trinity and aquanis are better atm.

Sacred Heart in SA are a massive football school.

Probably stand out as one of the biggest in Australia because it's probably the only one in SA :p

Yeah Wesley produce many AFL players but also have produced many good WAFL league players.

If you produce Buddy Franklin youve gotta be going alright along with a champion in Benny cousins.

I think that top 5 from WA would be
1. Trinity
2. Aquinas
3. Hale (produce alot of AFL players)
4. Wesley (produce alot of AFL players)
5. Sacred Heart
6. Clontarf as the aboriginal school for footy do well as well

Caufield, Geelong Grammar and the top private schools in Melbourne would be very hard to beat and i would say are easily the best sort of schools for footy in Aus.

How do St Kevins rate in 08?? Trinity from WA smashed their 1st side at the start if the year by 10 goals

Hailebury are a joke. Had no footballing success (easy beats) until they started giving out scholarships to their first XVIII. There's no football culture there, just imports. Any self respecting private school principal would cut that program, spend the money on actually educating the kids and in that case, they would be back where they started.

I'm Victorian but I know both the vic and sa schools very well and I'd take Sacred Heart in Adelaide. I remember playing against them and they had 8 SA U-18 players running around. 6 of which wound up playing AFL.

private schools willalways dominate these discussions. parents send their kids there to give them a leg up, as generally they have the best facilities to help the kids develop and get drafted.

at the moment from what i saw of the Herald Sun School footy comp, box hill is doing extremely well for a "normal" school

Geelong Grammar are a pathetic APS footy side. Haven't won a flag in close to 100 years.

just asking.. why do you call box hill a normal school? arnt they like all other private schools and give out scholarships?
if you talk of the herald sun shield, de la salle, who did beat box hill in a practice match early this year, were very good side this year and st joeys geelong have always been up there and seem to go far aswell in the herald sun. i dont think they are the best school in australia as such but they are competitive.

Although not being like your typical state school, Box Hill has a football program that accomidates the footballers at the school. It is not as committed as a private school team and the school doesnt go out and try to recruit players or offer any scholarships at all.

I think this argument has alot to do with what you rate a good footy school on. If it's wins and losses/premierships then that's one way and the other has to be on pure draft numbers. Sacred Heart has to be impressive under both banners for mine. Beyond that I don't think there's a school that can compete with Essendon Keilor College in terms of draft numbers in the past 10 years. They don't hand out scholarships and since 1999 have had 22 either drafted or rookied (2 drafted & 2 rookied this year) from their football program. Not too many superstars but they have a top record at 'developing' kids, something some of the supposed super private schools don't do. They've had quite a few guys drafted or rookied who weren't even on a TAC Cup list before they started the schools football program.
