Discussion Best Longsleeve Guernsey Ever?

I can understand why Clarkson would ban them. When he took over the new jumper material made jumpers look baggy, and this was best exemplified in the long sleeeved jumpers. Players looked Ike they were running around in potato sacks! Now a days though, jumpers looks way better because they are cut to better fit the player. Long sleeves look absolutely magnificent on the current cut and style of jumpers, but Clarkson wouldn't know that due to the rarity of them in today's game, and the fact he doesn't let his players wear them to begin with!

Out of interest, does he let the players wear them to train?

Yeah, they often train in the long sleeves, or have the long sleeved compression tops under the singlet.

From eBay earlier today. I wonder if clubs make these long-sleeve jumpers for special rounds (like the indigenous round, Anzac Day round etc.) for all players or only for players in the team that that they consider might actually choose to ever wear long sleeves? sydneysleeves.jpg

I know that GWS made long sleeve jumpers for Indigenous round, but only the players that wear them throughout the year. Not the whole team.

Showing my bias here

I didn't mind the Brisbane Bears "V" design that crept up the shoulders when it first came out, mostly in that it was something different.

This is probably the best (and only?) half sleeve guernsey ever.

Does Hawthorn's current clash have a long sleeve version?
Under Clarko's rules they won't ever make one. They'll have a design for it but it won't be made.

If I was ever good enough to play AFL, I wouldn't be seen in anything other than a long sleeved jumper. Then I'd get traded to Hawthorn and never get a game because of it...? Does a coach really have this sort of power over their players? I would have thought not (I'm thinking fair working conditions, etc. being enforced by the AFLPA or something).

Geelong did have a half sleeve jumper they used for one game about 10 years ago or so.
I believe it was the half sleeve version of this jumper.

However, the AFL never approved it beforehand and fined the club afterwards.
The half sleeves were quickly dropped.

No we didn't. One of our players made modifications to his long sleeve jumper and the AFL fined us for it.

A coach always has power over the players, that's why he's the coach. If you told Clarko you only wear long sleeves you'd find yourself playing in the sleeveless guernsey of the Box Hill Hawks for a season and then traded away.

I agree. Obviously I understand that there is more history in the V design, but i'd love to see the Roosters use the stripes as an away or something
