Best:
1. Shōgun - Such a high-quality production and some amazing acting performances.
2. Rivals - A great cast. Funny and sexy at times. Just a good watch.
3. Masters of the Air -A wonderfully made tribute to some crazy brave men.
4. Shrinking - The dramedy of the year.
5. FROM S4 - Just a kickass season this year. Loved it.

HMs: The Rings of Power S2, Agatha All Along, The Bear S3, and The Diplomat S2.

Worst:
1. The Acolyte - WTF was that?
2. Griselda - Mean Gloria isn't fun
3. Dark Matter - frustrating
4. La Brea - Just so bad, but kinda goofy
5. The Umbrella Academy S4 - boring.

1. From - I binged this in 10 days until I caught up to S3, and wasn’t that a ripper with two savage bookend episodes. Lost for the modern age.

2. Baby Reindeer - a series that took a real dark dive in to some terrible situations. How the creator came out the other end is a testimony to his own determination

3. Hacks - the best season yet with some poignant episodes that tugged at the heart strings

4. The Bear - not as strong as the first two seasons but the finale paints a picture for a possible final season that I suspect will be gripping.

5. Boy Swallows Universe - the finale let down what a great Australian story this was with again great performances

Notable mentions

Presumed Innocent - possibly excelled the movie with us guessing right to the end

Fallout - never played the game but what a fantastic sci fi tale

Disclaimer - exceptional acting, storytelling and again great twists. Blanchett at her best and an unrecognisable performance from Kevin Kline

In the garbage - Acolyte- if there was a nail in the Star Wars coffin this is it..except the Skeleton Crew bumped the hammer

I was trying to squeeze 'Day of the Jackal' in to see if it snuck on, but if you're gonna rush me Gaso:

1 - RIPLEY: Never has a tv series looked so good (Acually, I can't think of too many movies that look this good). The attention to detail is amazing. No wonder this took 4 or 5 years to make.

2 - INDUSTRY (S3): It's been a slow build, but the show finally took the leap to make the 'Succession' comparisons valid.

3 - SAY NOTHING: So deft at balancing so many different tones & genres. Brilliant performances. Memorable set-pieces.

4 - THE PENGUIN: Fantastic, layered storytelling set around 2 terrific performances.

5 - TOKYO VICE (S2): The best Japanese series of the year - that was also actually made in Japan!

HMs (Top 10): Shogun, Baby Reindeer, The Gentlemen, Rivals & Boy Swallows Universe...

HMs (Top 15): Evil (S4), What We Do In The Shadows (S6), Fallout, Mr and Mrs Smith & After the Party.

I’ll take a stab

1. Dark Matter

intense riveting episodes, too good to binge

2. The Serpent Queen S2

one of my fave shows to debut (and conclude) since the pandemic, maintained the first season excellence and had a raft of new faces and power struggles to offer

3. Disclaimer

Flawed, but acting and directing doesn’t get much better than this in modern TV. Vacuum scene was a delight.

4. Plum

Brendan Cowell alcoholic ex-league star with CTE onset, enough said

5. Presumed Innocent

much better than the movie

HM: Boy Swallows Universe (love the book and was happy with the adaptation), Nemesis (juicy, dirty, knives out, ABC FedPol era doc), The Dynasty: New England Patriots (not keen on NFL but still got hooked on this)

Not in order.

Shogun
The Penguin
Three Body Problem
The Day of the Jackal
Slow Horses S4
The Gentlemen
Boy Swallows Universe
Fallout
Very similar to mine but I haven’t watched The Penguin yet.

I’d add in Dark Matter

Pretty lean year
shows i really loved:
Industry
Shogun
Say Nothing
Ripley

Shows that are usually in my best but was a bit disappointed with this year:
Slow horses
The bear

Feel like I would like black doves but haven't got around to watching it yet.

Never could keep lists down to 5...

1. Industry Season 3
2. Ripley
3. Shogun
4. Pachinko Season 2
5. Mr. & Mrs. Smith
6. Tokyo Vice Season 2
7. Ren Faire
8. The Sympathizer
9. Say Nothing
10. Monsieur Spade

Hon: What We Do In The Shadows, One Day, The Agency, Landman

Ripley and Shogun might have actually had superior seasons, but giving Industry top billing because it's a returning show. Seems to be an increasingly lost art - the multi-season show - but the reward factor when its done well is immense.

Holding out a spot for the final season of My Brilliant Friend too, which I haven't got around to.
