What is the Best Draft with all of the Picks done by your Club?

Collingwood in 2006:
National Draft:
Ben Reid
Nathan Brown
Chris Dawes
Brad Dick
Tyson Goldsack

PSD
Chris Bryan

Rookie
Sharrod Wellingham
Brent MaCaffer
Martin Clarke

I think this is our Best Draft with all of the picks looking like AFL Players and Accept for 1 all have played Multiple AFL Games.

Top 4 could be something Special in Reid,Brown,Dawes and Dick.

What is your best Teams Overall Draft?

1999 for the quality of players with Haselby and Pavlich (both top 5) and have gone onto to be AA and play 150+ quality games. Hadrill was a decent rookie selection, played 68 games, but was cruelled by injuries which cut his career short.

2002 was probably the more skilled recruiting effort with the first pick at 13. Schammer and Crowley were drafted and Gilmore and Dodd rookied.

I'd expect 2007 and 2008 to feature given a bit more time to judge and hopefully overtake these 2.

2006 National Draft:

Gibbs (awesome)
Hampson (has a lot of potential)
Grigg (already showing good footy)
Austin (same as Hampson)
Benjamin (delisted)
Anderson (shows some skill, but needs to keep getting better)

2006 Rookie Draft:

Sam Jacobs (dunno how he'll end up)
Michael Jamison (AWESOME pickup for 2nd round rookie)
Ross Young (delisted)

2006 Preseason draft:

Cain Ackland (LOL)
Cameron Cloke (has been a useful pickup)

I think that will prove to be the best for us. Gibbs, Jamison, Grigg, Austin and Hampson should be major parts of our 22 in the coming years.

For the Bombers the 2006 draft has the potential to be our best effort so far, but with three picks in the top 20, it made the process a little easier somewhat.

#2 Scott Gumbleton - Jury is still out but a 11d, 8m and 2 goal performance against Freo in just his second game proves he has obvious talent; needs to get over his injuries

#18 Leroy Jetta - Started off slowly but starting to hit his straps, will be a player

#20 Tom Hislop - Delisted

#36 Alwyn Davey - one of our most important players, a pure gem.

#42 Bachar Houli - oozes class, rising star nomination, A grade material

#47 Kyle Reimers - same goes for 'boots', just oozes class, rising star nomination and A grade material

If Gumbleton fulfills his talent and Jetta, Reimers and Houli reach their potential, given the class of Davey this draft can potentially be the Don's best ever.

It seems the so called "super draft" of 2006 will turn out to be just that. Well for us anyway. :thumbsu:

It's hard to go past Melbourne's 1999 draft, picked up 5 players to play over 100 games.
#19 Green
#20 Wheatley
#50 Whelan
#64 Bruce
PSD#14 Godfrey

Although our '97 draft wasn't too bad either, a fair few players played 50+ games.
#1 Johnstone
#22 Troy Longmuir
#66 Nathan 'doggy' Brown(not the Richmond/Collingwood player's)
#77 Guy Rigoni
Psd#1 Jamie Shanahan:rolleyes:
RD#1 Luke Williams
RD#49 Peter Walsh
RD#65 Matthew Bishop
RD#81 Daniel Ward

Between 2004 and 2001 for mine.

2004;
Roughead
Franklin
Lewis
Murphy
Little (delisted)
Taylor

2001;
Hodge
Ladson
Elstone (delisted)
Brown
Mitchell
Simon Cox (delisted/retired, but was handy for a while)

Between 1999 and 2001 for mine.

1999
8. Corey
31. Chapman
38. Ling
47. Enright
Trade. Mooney

2001
8. Bartel
17. Kelly
24. S.Johnson
40 (F/S) Ablett

Bit early to tell yet, but 2006 might shape up alright too.

7. Selwood
25. Djerrkura
41 (F/S) Hawkins
57 Hogan

Bulldogs 99 is very good

13 Murphy
32 Giansiracusa
35 Wiggins (delisted)
37 Hahn
43 Gilbee
66 Hargrave

5 players who will/have 150 games each

2007 draft looks very promising
Grant
Ward
Reid
Wood
Boumann
O'Keefe
all showing something.

definately our best recent draft

2002:

5. J. Mcviegh
34. S. Dempster (F/S) (st kilda now)
50. J Thewlis (gone)
64. N. Malceski

Preseason C. Bolton
Rookie 6. H. James
64. P. Bevan
71. J Micklejohn

mcviegh, bevan, malceski, bolton are all important parts of our best 22 now while dempster was part of our grand final sides and was handy.

Also when you consider we traded out Leigh Brown (pick 5) and traded in Luke McPharlin (pick 12) from that 1999 draft (not in the same trade of course), then you'd have to say the class of 1999 was a pretty good one for us. :thumbsu:

I think in the long term we will see 2008 being the best for us, just by sheer weight of numbers and guys like Hill, Suban, Walters, Pearce, Ballantyne all likely to play a fair few games for Freo.

1997:
5. Luke Power
10. Shane O'Bree
31. Simon Black
51. Scott Ralph
58. Marcus Picken
73. Beau McDonald

Walking away from any draft with Power and Black is a massive result. Throw in McDonald who helped lead the ruck department in our premiership years.

2003 was also a good one for us considering the weakness of the talent pool that year. To pick up Adcock and Rischitelli late, plus Drummond in the rookie draft was a great result. All three are key players for us now.

In fact, recently we have done a lot better in the weaker drafts (02 and 03) than the stronger drafts (99 and 01).

Year 2000

National Draft
Pick 12 - Shaun Burgoyne - AA player, Premiership player
Pick 20 - Kane Cornes - AA player, Premiership player
Pick 35 - Allan Murray - Delisted
Pick 50 - Domenic Cassisi - Premiership player, possible future captain

Pre-Season Draft
Pick 8 - Wade Chapman - Delisted

Rookie Draft
Pick 10 - Darren Burton - Delisted
Pick 26 - Dean Brogan - Premiership player
Pick 42 - Tom Carr - Delisted
Pick 55 - Scott Hahn - Delisted

Trades
Sent Matt Bode to Crows for pick 12 (Shaun Burgoyne) - Won that trade
Traded pick 4 (Luke Livingston) for Darryl Wakelin - Premiership player, won that trade

2006 is looking bloody great, but needs a couple more years

2006 National Draft
3 Lachlan Hansen (huge upside)
21 Gavin Urquhart (already a solid AFL player)
37 Todd Goldstein (better than H.McIntosh at the same age, should play games this year)
53 Lindsay Thomas (see urquhart)
69 Ben Warren (yet to debut, may not make it)
82 Aaron Edwards (solid mature age player)

Pre Season Draft

3 Ben Ross (talented kid, will play a lot this year)

Rookie Draft

3 Leigh Adams (did his knee last year, should be there and abouts this year)
34 Matt Campbell (gun forward pocket.)

plus 2 others who have been delisted.

We really cleaned up with this draft, hopefully along with the '05, '07 and '08 draftees they can bring us a flag. Time will tell.

our 2006 draft was ridiculous

all of them bar ben warren (pick 69 ND) look like being absolute guns

"Look like" being guns... we can all say that, we're all optimistic about recent draftees, it means next to nothing

Urquhart's the only one who's getting a game every week.

Pretty happy with Reimers & Houli (#42 & #47) from our 2006, and Gumbie & Jetta look like they'll be good, but hard to say much more than that because they haven't played much let alone played consistently well

Also when you consider we traded out Leigh Brown (pick 5) and traded in Luke McPharlin (pick 12) from that 1999 draft (not in the same trade of course), then you'd have to say the class of 1999 was a pretty good one for us. :thumbsu:

By necessity if nothing else, with your recent turnover of players. I am very interested to see how Harvey goes blooding kids, I was scared he'd fall into the Sheedy trap & keep Carr et al around for too long.

stopped reading here when you showed that you havent seen any north team sheets in the last 2 years

Am I wrong?

Never seen Goldstein, Hansen definitely has been in and out - I've followed him because of the Gumbie/Hansen thing, Ross and Thomas are both little blokes and I thought they'd been basically swapping in and out of the pocket

EDIT: Checking: Thomas and Campbell have played more than I thought, Urquhart less. I have been confusing Ross and Campbell. My bad.

lets have a quick look

hansen - was in and out in 2007 but cemented his place and played the remaining 10 games of 2008

urquhart - cemented his place on the HBF in 2008

lindsay thomas - played half of the games in 2007 and every single game in 2008 if i recall correctly

matt campbell - same as thomas i dont think he missed a game in 08

aaron edwards - cemented his place in the team in 2007. dominant semi final performance. missed most of 2008 through a broken leg. one of the first selected in our forward line when fit.

goldstein - very hard for the 19 yr old to break into the side with petrie, hale and mcintosh but when given the chance he showed a lot ( dominates vfl would be playing afl for many other teams)

ben ross - starred late in the season and against port and was close to best on ground. missed the rest of the season due to injury. has not played a lot but this is the guy that a lot of us are most excited about

clearly urquhart is not the only one getting a game

We've had 129 games from the 2006 draft. Campbell and Thomas have played 35 each. Edwards 26. Urquhart 14.

So, yeah, you're wrong.

Do North play in an additional comp that I am not aware of?

2007 - 22 games plus 3 finals =25
2008 22 games plus 1 final =24

Total since 2006 draft is 49 games. Perhaps your post includes a typo.
