Super difficult for younger ones on here so thought make it a bit of a info kiosk for interest ( not that I have the best memory)

4 Ben Mathews 2001 Current - possibly the best clubman ever for the Sydney based Swans ( only Maxfield would have claims on that)

4 Tony Lockett 1995 1999 - simply the best #4 no explaination necessary!!!

4 Dean McRae 1993 1994 - Was skilled but IMO a bit of a whimp and unlucky to play in such a poor era

4 Ben Doolan 1991 1992 - One of my fav Swans at the time!! before he became a hated Bomber soon after. One of the funniest things I have ever seen in footy (only on TV) was when Craig "ned" Kelly flithy Collingwood hard nut smashed his teeth and the trainers scrambled madly whilst play still happening trying to find Bens teeth!!!! even after the game Ch7 was showing them after game running their hands thru grass trying to find them. Ben was an Albury lad, so I followed him a bit.. was super duper courageous bit wild and not highly skilled

4 Merv Neagle 1986 1990 - Superstar! But IMO was never as good for Swans as he was previously for Essendon. He was wild hot tempered too!

4 Robb Hawkins 1985 1985 - dont remember???

4 Darryl Sutton 1983 1983 - was a better player at North came with big wraps but IMO ...bloody hopeless!

4 Jack Oatey 1944 1944 - I never saw him play obviously;) am surprised to see him here. Apparently played few games during war for South?. He is an absolute SANFL legend mainly as a coach!!!!

William Williams.

Billy Williams
Team of the Century member (on the bench)
Played 1946-1951
124 games, 180 goals
Position: Rover
Retired at the age of 25
3 time Best and Fairest
2 time leading goalkicker (best of 41 in 1951)
Regular "Big V" member
Kicked 5 goals or more in a match 6 times

If you're serious, it's an interesting choice.
3 b&fs <24, then retired at 25 (injured?, coached Williamstown 1952/3 - seriously, he did - where else would William Williams coach?).
Only 4 players in the club's history have won more B&Fs (Matthews-5, Skilton-9, Bedford-5 & Kelly-4). Clegg and Healy also won 3 each.

Those preferring Matthews ahead of Lockett have got be kidding.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but imo the only comparison between the two is that they both wore the same number.

One was a legend of the game, the other, well lets just be polite and leave it there.

As for playing in number four, whats the old saying, know your role. When Matthews starting wearing four, my 8 year old said he wanted the number on his jumper changed.

I think that says it all, even a little kid can answer who the best Swan in #4 was.

There is no comparison between the 2 but Benny deserves more respect than that.Who played on Luke Power when we played the Lions, Benny did and beat him everytime and Power is a champion that is one of the reasons we beat Brisbane. He also beat a lot of other guns from other clubs.
So pay him a bit more respect than that and i am being polite.
Tom he's all yours!
